first discovered this game a while ago so I made an account but the learning curve was super hard so I left the community, then VRChat added an anticheat to a social vr game so I left VRChat because why the helly does a social vr game need an anticheat just up your moderation, I soon became really good with the code in neos then they had soon shutdown this game so I can't recommend this game. aside from the whole ncr drama and all the creeps that would sometimes come out of the shadows.
Its a shame. this is a VR social platform that in my opinion exceeds the quality of 90% of whats out there. Ive even spoke to the devs once and they where super chill, they showed be that neos had a really strong base on wich it was developed and It was great. sadly it never picked up to the popularity that it desserved and secondly the recent account transfering changes really killed the last of the loyal playerbase. i hope they release more of these tools to the public as I dont really like VRChat and its alternatives.

Neos VR is best understood not as a conventional game but as a bold attempt to build a fully malleable virtual universe—one where players can socialize, experiment, and create with almost no restrictions. Developed by Frooxius and published by Solirax, it stands out for its ambition: instead of offering a curated set of activities or worlds, it provides the tools for users to build anything they can imagine inside VR itself. From its earliest days, Neos cultivated the idea of a living metaverse shaped primarily by the contributions and creativity of its community. That meant sculpting environments, assembling avatars, scripting behaviors, importing assets, and turning empty spaces into interactive places, all within a platform designed to merge the roles of player, developer, artist, and engineer into one. This vision allowed Neos to grow into a uniquely flexible sandbox that blurred the line between social VR and a full-fledged development engine. What made Neos truly remarkable was the sheer depth of its toolset. Its node-based programming system, LogiX, let users create complex interactions and behaviors without leaving VR, effectively functioning as a visual scripting environment akin to Unity’s blueprint systems. Whether you wanted to make a physics gadget, a user interface, a rideable vehicle, or a fully interactive game, Neos gave you the means to do so collaboratively and in real time. Avatar creation was equally advanced: the platform supported full-body tracking, eye tracking, face tracking, and sophisticated layering systems that allowed for expressive, deeply customized identities. Many users treated the platform as an experimental lab, pushing the limits of VR tech by integrating haptics, unique trackers, or custom hardware devices. The most impressive worlds in Neos often felt like working prototypes of future VR interfaces—fluid, collaborative, and intuitive in ways that no flat-screen editor could match. Beyond its technical capability, Neos fostered a type of social environment that was creative, chaotic, and deeply communal. Worlds ranged from surreal sculptures to lecture halls, whimsical games to serene hangout rooms. Users could pass tools between each other, build collaboratively, or remix each other’s creations. This sense of shared play and experimentation gave Neos a feeling of vibrancy that was hard to replicate elsewhere. Conversations in Neos didn’t just involve chatting or roleplay—they often involved teaching someone how to rig an avatar, debugging a world script, or building something together on the spot. The platform’s unlimited inventory system, rapid prototyping workflow, and portable object system made these interactions fluid and spontaneous. It was a space where creativity and social interaction intertwined seamlessly. However, Neos was never an easy platform to approach. The complexity that made it empowering for veterans also made it intimidating for newcomers. Its vast UI, numerous tools, and unconventional menus could feel bewildering without guidance. Tutorials and onboarding were limited, leaving new users reliant on community members or experimentation to understand the platform’s potential. While the depth of Neos was a major strength, it also meant there was no simple “pick up and play” path for casual users who wanted light social experiences without learning sophisticated creation tools. This barrier to entry kept the user base relatively niche compared to more accessible VR platforms. Over time, Neos’s trajectory shifted dramatically due to internal disagreements and the controversial push toward cryptocurrency integration. The ensuing conflict fractured the development team, leading many of its core contributors—including the visionary behind much of the platform’s architecture—to depart and begin work on a spiritual successor, Resonite. The fallout culminated in Neos losing development momentum, and by August 2025, the official cloud services were shut down, rendering the platform unhosted and removing its presence from Steam. While offline and LAN-based sessions remain technically possible, the vibrant shared universe that once defined Neos is no longer fully accessible. For many longtime users, this marked the end of an era, with communities moving to successor platforms or archiving what they created. Despite this decline, Neos VR retains historical significance as one of the most versatile and innovative VR platforms ever built. It demonstrated how powerful and intuitive creation could be when directly integrated into the VR medium. It showed the potential of VR as a collaborative engineering space, an educational environment, an artistic playground, and a social hub all at once. Even now, in its limited state, Neos remains a fascinating artifact of what VR can be when users are treated not as consumers but as co-architects of a digital world. Its legacy lives on not only in the tools and ideas it pioneered, but also in the communities and creators who continue to build upon the foundation it laid. In the end, Neos VR stands as a testament to visionary design—ambitious, flawed, groundbreaking, and ultimately fragile. It offered an unprecedented canvas for creation and collaboration, even if it could not sustain the infrastructure or development needed to thrive long-term. For those who experienced it at its peak, it remains unforgettable: a glimpse into what a truly user-driven metaverse might look like, and a reminder of the immense creative potential VR holds when the tools are placed directly into the hands of its explorers.
