UPDATE: The last update stated that the next stage (the second one) in the game would be released at the beginning of August 2023 if all went well. It is now the beginning of November 2023, and the developers have been extremely quiet. Not even a post explaining that there's been a delay. Might be a bit early to call it, but I'm betting they won't be back. Don't buy this game. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Like most people, I wish Steam had a 'meh' option. I think the game has a decent amount of promise, and I had a pretty good time for most of the 3.5 hours I was playing it (yes, I left it running for a bit). But I can't recommend it right now. Mostly because the game came out with 3 to 5 hours of content at $6.49 CAD. NOTE: At time of writing, the game has one stage and three classes (characters). That may have changed when you're reading this; so check the updates. Once (if, because I know how this goes sometimes) it starts getting more content, then yes, I can say 'if you like bullet heavens and want a neon ninja themed one, this is an okay option, mileage may vary on the price'. But I'd wait on this one if you're interested. Outside of that, I had a few other thoughts on the game: The Bad:

Funky font choice. I got used to it, but while it works fine for larger text, it's harder to read descriptions.
One particular sound design choice. Most of the sound design is fine, but the damage sound effect doesn't really give off the sense that you've been damaged. It's not too big a problem, but it's there.
The Commander class being slow. This one feels pretty slow compared to the other two classes, which isn't necessarily a problem but it felt annoying starting out. I'm glad I kept going, but that soured my opinion until I unlocked the next class. I thought maybe I just needed to get used to the controls, but the Commander still felt slow when I went back later.
The stage unlock requirements. I played seven rounds in order to kill enough enemies to finish that last mission, which, yes, would have been six if I hadn't died the first two times around the ten minute mark. Maybe would have been five if I hadn't been trying to farm coins? That's still a lot, though.
The Average:

No combining weapons. Unless I missed something. Game's still alright without that.
Not really very bullet-y for this kind of game. Not a problem gameplay-wise, but if you were expecting the usual fireworks show, it doesn't get as crazy like some of other games in this genera do.
Mostly just normal enemies. From what I've seen so far, the only enemies that behave differently are the drones and the bigger guys that take longer to kill. No patterns or bosses. But there are timed objectives that break up the action. I had fun; so I don't think it's a big deal as long as the later stages have some variety to them.
No casino lightshows. I personally don't have a problem with Vampire Survivors and friends doing that. But if you have a traditional gambling problem and don't want to deal with that, this game currently does not do that.
It's 3D. You might not like the look of it. But you're checking the comments right now; so it probably doesn't bother you much either.
The Good:

The other two classes feeling faster. One of them unlocks when you finish the stage once; so if you were, like me, annoyed with the Commander, you can swap out soon enough.
It works and it works pretty well.
Different upgrades per character. While Neon City Survivor does have the shared weapon pool of VS, it gives the characters each their own extra upgrades, which is nice.
Can (and should) fire weapons manually. You can fire and aim manually in addition to auto-fire. I've only played VS, HSF (which has aiming), and Magic Survival, but I wouldn't be surprised other games in the genera have done this before. Even so, it's a good addition here.
UI. It's alright (aside from the font being a bit funky). I like that there's an indicator near your character of what weapons are ready to fire manually (there's only four weapon slots per character; so it's easier to tell).
I can't recommend it just yet. But if the developers keep working on it, then I can; it's okay. Are there better games in this genera? Yes. But I do think there's room for okay games in there too.
Until the performance of the game is better, I cannot recommend. Its ok as a survivor like, but something feels off with it. Ill keep trying with future updates and will update if needed. For now I would wait for a while.
This game has been abandoned.
It's my first survivor game, and so far I've been enjoying it a lot. Definitely a good introduction to the genre !
Having played a bit now I find refreshing features in this Survivors like, which seems promising ! Watch this space as this game may finally give Survivors like a bit of much needed depth !
not my type of game but this one is sweet
Prepare yourself for a thrilling and challenging adventure where every decision counts. Obliterate the swarm. Survive the night if there is any in the Neon City.
