✨ Nekokami: Internship is a prologue to the full game Nekokami. Created as a prototype in 2023, this free prologue contains 20+ Expeditions and roughly 4 hours of story-rich gameplay. 🐣

In this sneak peek of the full game, you will:
🌏 Create beautiful worlds of natural habitats and human settlements with strategic, or spontaneous, placement of tiles in a unique hand-drawn-like art style.
🌌 Follow the beginning of a whimsical yet heart-warming story of Human-Cat friendship, set millennia later in the future.
💼 Earn your place in Nekokami Co., your employer, by creating worlds that beat expectations. Or just relax. Your bosses are Cats after all.
🔮 Befriend a selection of Kami, spirits of the nature and the universe, and see them bring miracles to your work. They are Cats too. What could go wrong?

🌟 Nekokami Co. is commissioned to manage planets all over the universe. That's a LOT of planets! Environment, biomes and rules differ from Star System to Star System. You will get to visit at least SIX Star Systems during your internship.
🐈 I did mention the Kami*, right? Technically the spirits are the real fellows creating the worlds. As a Planetary Architect, you are basically borrowing their Creative Energy for your own use. You will need to seek their acceptance and approval. Through their friendship, you will potentially learn the secrets of nature and the arcane laws of universe.
*Kami is actually a Japanese word that roughly translates to "spirits and gods".
This game was made by a tiny tiny independent game studio in Fukuoka. We hope you enjoy it!

So cozy and silly and HIGHLY ANNOYING SENPAI STOP PLACING IN RANDOM SPOTS-KAMI STOP MESSING WITH MY ROTATION!!! Excited to play the full game and meet new cats :3
This is such a big demo!! I love it. This is such a relaxing game, but not mindless, and there's an option to just play the game without any end goals, which is very nice. The graphics for the actual game part is soooo nice, and when you have landscapes or people lining up they float so you know what you're placing, which is great. I will say, despite how much I like the actual game-play, the dialogue is not good, and unfortunately is sometimes annoying. I think it is because the game is well developed and functions so smoothly that the dialogue seems clunky and boring. In my opinion, if your dialogue needs asterisks (*) to reveal the true feelings of a character, your dialogue is not well written. The drawings of the cats are significantly worse than the rest of the graphics, and it's quite jarring. While it's nice that you have a choice sometimes for the dialogue you say, it seems like your choices don't really matter (which defeats the purpose), and if I continue or buy the actual game, I will be skipping all of the dialogue, which is sad.
"Nekokami: Internship - The Prologue Adventure" is not a game, it's an advertisement for an unfinished Early Access game, basically a lame version of Sid Meier's Beyond Earth only with cats and bad mobile app tier graphics. When developers throw up advertisements instead of truly free games, it pollutes Steam. Sure, they think they're being clever by getting a store page advert for their game, but this pollutes Steam and makes it harder for genuine free games to find their audience. This has some fairly mediocre graphics that will understandably be a turn off for a lot of gamers, and it's a big contributor to the failure of the game to attract gamers despite having no up-front cost. This is only free in the same way that adverts on Youtube and banner ads in your browser are. This is a game demo that's been dumped on Steam to advertise another Steam store page in the hopes of raking in some cash. Just because advertisements are free, doesn't mean they're worth your time. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at less than 100 concurrent players, and now there's basically nobody playing it. Even though it's free. This is a dismal public reception, but it's easy to see why gamers rejected it. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Nope. This isn't worth downloading. While this didn't cost me any money up front, I still feel ripped off. If you want advertising, there's plenty of it free on Youtube. Why go through the effort of downloading an advertisement on Steam?
Developer Response!
The developer has weighed in to inform everyone they didn't read the Developer Usage Rules for Steam "partners", or they deliberately ignored the part where Valve says:
Though it may be tempting, not every review needs to be responded to. A developer response will frequently draw more attention than the original statement, potentially turning a small issue into a much larger community discussion. It's also not a good idea to use this feature to refute customer opinions. Your direct attention can be seen as validation or a defensive attempt to silence your customers.
The developer obviously can't read, because nowhere in my review did I mention how long people play the game for. The developer then throws up some playtime data that shows very, very low player engagement, where gamers will play successful games for literally hundreds of hours, the developer apparently is boasting that they struggle to get people to play this for more than a few hours, which of course makes sense for the reasons I supply in my review. Where the developer seems to have gotten confused, and if they had better reading comprehension, they might have avoided it, is where I point out the SteamDB player counts. Because this is "free" I tend to provide a high level view to avoid coming down too harshly, but now that the developer of this advertisement draws our attention, I'll reveal more precise data. The peak player count, which only happened once, was just 42 gamers. While that seems high, that only happened on the initial launch and only for a few minutes, gamers quickly turned it off and deleted the game. Now, and for the past few months, the only activity in this game has been 1-2 players every other day, and only for short periods of time. Facts don't lie, gamers in general were repulsed by this low quality advertisement, and that's understandable. Most of the rest of the developer response is totally unrelated to the facts of my review and does not address the relative failure of this Early Access advertisement, or the reasons behind their failure. I guess they just like the sound of their keyboard or something. Nothing in the developers pointless breach of Valve guidelines changes any of the objective facts of my review. My review stands unaltered. I cannot recommend this game to anyone.
