I've quite enjoyed my time with this game so far! Do recommend picking it up. The game is pretty much as indie as it gets, but in a good way. It's got that indie charm to it where you can really feel the creators touch in the game. The dev is quick with patching any issues they find and is a pretty nice person! I quite liked the atmosphere and plot of what I've played so far. There's an immediate tension once you boot up the game and are basically told to turn around immediately. Being forced to walk in deeper to what is obviously not a great place to be. There's an interesting story with some pretty strong symbolism strewn about (the enemies literally have arms coming out of their pelvis). Game isn't afraid to make you pretty uncomfortable right away. As for my impressions of the gameplay, it's tense. There's a good bit of the game I haven't played yet, but from what I have played it's fairly stressful. You learn the layout of the asylum while trying to move quickly because you don't want to meet him and also need to remember to shut off all the lights. There's a nice balance to exploration because of this. You wanna turn on lights while you move in and then turn them off as you run out. Kind like cleaning up your own trail. Enemies block routes when lights are off, so you have to put some thought into where you're going and how you go about it. Things change during the night, but I honestly haven't explored much at night just yet. There's also some mechanics with the npcs and such that are implied, but I haven't experienced that either just yet. I'm looking forward to playing the game more and seeing how things change based on what and when I do things. A major highlight for me has to be the sound design of the game. It feels like everything is literally in your ear, or right next to you. From an old man coughing, to Lynda making the most uncomfortable moaning noises while you're just trying to figure out what's going on. Walking past doors constantly has these strange noises coming from just inside that make you wonder and interpret what's going on in there. The sound design definitely carries the game atmosphere wise. I quite enjoy the art style and designs of all the enemies and npcs I've seen so far. I think it actually speaks to the symbolism of games like Silent Hill better than most games that try to emulate the style. Whenever I look at a character my immediate thoughts are both "ew" and "why do they look like that?" There's connections between you and the characters that are fun to try to sus out based on their designs. Overall, I've really been enjoying the game so far and wanted to leave a positive review of my first impressions. I don't think the game will be too long or anything, but the game is striking and stays with you for a bit after you close it out, which is high praise for a horror game. Looking forward to playing more!
