This is an updated version of Mute Crimson+, an excellent remake of a fun XBLG title that was released years ago. For the most part, the game may seem similar to the previous version at a quick glance, but then, you'll start noticing the updated visuals, the reworked cutscenes (featuring new artwork and a script that now makes sense!) and new QOL features such as the rewind mode which allows you to "undo" mistakes, not unlike what the 3D Prince of Persia games did years ago (this feature is a godsend to anyone looking to gather all those pesky hidden coins in each of the game stages, which is how the game handles unlockables just like in the original.) Tweaks aside, there is also new content exclusive to this version! Among a few other things, you'll find all new postgame stages, some new "hidden" stages for each of the game areas that will put your platforming skills to the test. Those who played the previous version will definitely want to try these out! Oh, and there is also an all new, nifty mini game that enables the protagonist to finally fulfill a promise to a dear old friend. However, it is important to point out the fact that the original version of Mute Crimson that was included as an extra in Mute Crimson+ is absent here. It's a wonderful update that manages to effectively showcase just how fun the game is despite having it played for years. The new features make it even easier to recommend to a wider audience that may have found the previous version too difficult for its own good. Be sure to try it! By the way, props to the developer for making this update free to previous owners of the original Mute Crimson+. Thanks a lot! :)
Great update to a fun game!
Really solid platformer, can't believe I missed the original title. Controls and physics are consistent and the OST pushes you forward :)
More Mute Crimson? Don't mind if I do. ...Is it just me, or are there a lot of wiggly tentacles in this game?
I was glad that the team from Iced Lizard gave their remaster "Mute Crimson DX" to anyone for free who already owned the original! There is not much to add, it is still a great precision-action-platformer well worth your time and a treat for genre enthusiasts. Sound, animation and levelsprites have been enhancend, also the cutscenes are now a lot smoother and they rewrote the bonkers "script" (but I personally liked to "old" writing better, it was somehow more hilarious that way). Plus you get a two chapter DLC on top and the old version if you preferred that. It seems like the definitive version of "Mute Crimson" and the best time to grab it and try it out, if you haven't already!
Superb platformer, one of the best on Steam. Got this for free since I had the original Mute Crimson+, but this is well worth the purchase if you've never played it before. Fun, inventive levels. Difficult but fair bosses. Very responsive controls (a pet peeve of mine when controls are imprecise or laggy, none of that here). Really catchy music. New DX content looks very cool although haven't hit new levels yet. Just all around a good time, highly recommended.
Not really much to say about this one, which has also been given free to old owners of Mute Crimson+ (while thankfully leaving that still available to them). The graphics didn't really need improvement, but what has been done, with new details and animations on top of a few redesigns, is still pleasant to look at and doesn't betray the old style. Same can be said about the cutscenes, which are completely redone; however, they lose some character because the dialogue now is in proper English. At least everything about Moth is intact and they even extended her (?) screen time, on top of a fun dedicated extra. The most important new feature is the rewinding ability. It cannot go back indefinitely, but it's frankly hard to resist the temptation of using it, especially when falling to lesser obstacles; at the same time, some of the most complex gauntlets can't count on it to solve everything. Besides some unlockables like short bonus stages, the biggest addition in terms of content is two entirely new levels played right after the original final boss. There is clear care put into them, as they have an underwater theme and a whole completely new bunch of enemy sprites; however, they are also at a point where the campaign may overstay its welcome. Take this as the point of view of a player who, after Mute Crimson+, wouldn't feel a real need for this version. If you are brand new, however, it's the perfect chance to dive into one of the best "hardcore" platformers.
A remastered version of a cute minimalist platformer with a nice sense of humor. I played the + version 9 years ago, which is crazy to think about. Never beat that one in my early teens, but I have beaten this now. This version adds a couple bonus levels.
fun game with good additions to the original
I finished the game without using rewinds. I died a lot of times. Everytime i died I said the N-word ... i mean Ninja. What you expected?
