A Phenomenal, Mind blowing game. {9/10} [A+] It’s like the creator stabbed himself and poored his soul all over this. -Abbacac I love the sense of discovery in this game. -SlyGarf Easily one of the funniest, most creative, outlandish, and surprisingly emotional 3D-platformers out there. -Sawkman Mr. Sleepy Man has an exceptional original soundtrack, always sitting between very good and amazing. The game is really unique and different from others in the 3d platforming genre; It is full of really enjoyable mysteries and puzzles; Has outlandish and fun humor; The bosses are interesting and the fights are varied and adequately short for the genre, so that they never overstay their welcome; The cast is really Memorable; It’s insane how there are still missing places and things and mysteries left, after finding so many. The voice acting is great too and done by the Genius Devin Santi 99% of the time. (Yes, I do belive he is an actual genius after witnessing his creation) -- ! ! ATTENTION ! ! -- ! ! SPOILERS BELOW ! ! -- There are Many throwbacks to the N64 and PS2 eras (the Tooty Milk Carton and Jak3’s Tentacle Minigame to name a few); The stairs and rooms remind of Psychonauts or Day of the Tentacle, the same goes for mysteries and attention to detail. The crows do too, as well as the nighmares blocking your access to the magic sand, once the situation gets enough out of control, which gives “point of no return” or “nighttime” vibes from Psychonauts. The concept of being grabbed by the nightmare once you loose all health and waking up in nowhere land, a place full of broken memories, to later find out it is Bedtime Town in the present, is just stunningly ennlightened! Being able to use the TVs to time travel to specific situations and places is also goated. The magic sand shortcuts are great: they are placed very well, so that you have a feeling of safety and confidence when exploring and platforming. Sincere emotional moments are broken up by unexpected humor: “Come on Sleepy, you’re ruining this pivotal moment with your lack of accuracy.” -Teefy (if you mess a single note during said pivotal moment.) “There he was, dinosaur Jones…. In his idle animation” -Teefy (during an emotional sequence trying to remember what happened to his best pal, Dinosaur Jones) This games simply does so many things right and simultaneosly manages to also innovate and be creative and unique in oh so many ways. My mind is blown... ...I expected a random, short, half baked game where you sow chaos in a town… ...a "6 or 7 out of 10 game" at most... ...but instead, I've ended up witnessing A MASTERPIECE. The CONS: Mr. Sleepy Man only falls short on a few things, such as the glide jump, the gliding and sometimes the camera: while controls are snappy and overall satifisfyng, they could use a slight improvement, as I felt negatively limited by them more than a few times. (You could think that the critique of controls is actually just a skill issue, but Corn Kidz64’s controls, which are notoriously hard and considered pushining by many, did not feel so. And while Corn Kidz64’s platforming was challenging, the controls felt exceptionally precise once you get used to them and it all becomes extremely satifying. I even went as far as enjoying completing the tower of anxiety XD) Back to Mr Sleepy Man: While the nighmare meter felt cool and the clock so mysterious, they both were undercooked, sadly. Also there were one or two moments where you felt like you were wandering aimlessly, as the hints don’t tell you how to do things (rightfuly so). Here one can assume it was skill issue, until later noticing that several other people were in a similar situation, so maybe that aimless wandering feeling was justifiable. Finally I was never a fan of the Nintendo Mii style characters, with oversized generic heads and balls for hands... ...so that put me off in the beginning. After playing the game I still am not a fan of that aspect, but became more or less neutral towards it, as the game's overall art and style are very enjoyable! All in all these are only minor complaints, that barely detract from the stellar experience. The Rating: While I did say that I found a Masterpiece, and a Masterpiece it is, from so many standpoints: OST, creativity, depth, etc... ...And while I did say that my mind was blown, I do not FEEL that this game belongs to the 5/5 tier, as those games simply sit one step above this one. And how one feels about a game is essentially the ultimate summary, as the feel is almost always based on real aspects of the game. In short this makes Mr. Sleepy Man: A Phenomenal, Mind blowing game. {9/10} [A+] - Saturn98
This game is a fantastic homage to the classic collectothon games that we grew up on yet it is a unique enough experience that I don't feel like I'm replaying any of the inspired games. The soundtrack is also most definitely a bop. 10/10 loving it so far. Edit -- Just beat it, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ man just play it. This game deserves a lot more recognition.
One of the most unique and fun games I've played in recent memory, has a interesting overall story as well!
This was a great time, through and through! Game has lots of fun with itself and the style is just tops :) Hope to see more from Devin someday I like what his mind is conjuring up for sure, I want more platformers to be this silly and creative
