it hurt.
great story, was in the edge of my seat at all cliffhangers
This game definitely hurts. It has moments that can be a bit too much, but I won't go into detail because of spoilers. I like the characters and the plot. It doesn't take long to complete and it doesn't drag on. I recommend it for people that like horror and angst. There's a good mix of both.

Story-wise Mouthwashing constructs an interesting microcosm of a post-apocalypse. The grainy pixel visuals and backroom-esque presentation of certain segments offer a fitting and uniquely enjoyable backdrop. You move through the game like a dream, remembering the events of the ship vividly, but often nightmarishly and out of order. It's sound design and jump scares are impressive, offering a better horror experience than some movies. That being said, I feel as if the story has been overhyped. The writing isn't stale and there are some good lines, but a lot of it feels unconnected or unfinished. I suppose I could say the same about How Fish Is Made, but the confusing nature of that made sense since you were roleplaying a fish. Mouthwashing was meant to be their premier narrative game, but I think they just barely missed the mark in that regard. It needed a better exposition or plot twist or something to tie it together. The whole time I was thinking the safety foam was meant to be like frothy mouthwash and they were inside the mouth of a space whale or something--it was trippy enough otherwise. Overall, still a soft recommend. Not as much of a narrative as I would've hoped and is touted, but great as a short horror game and piece of art.
