feels like alpha version. seriously dont publish yet. work on animations and fluidity of movement. also the vines that monster climb are placed in impossible to climb situations where trying to climb will just result in death. everything is junky and clunky overall.
Before anyone asks: I'm a focus tester and have over 100 hours experience in the game, so my hours in this branch do not represent my full playtime. Yes, this is a Beta. No, its not a fully optimised and released game. The game will come out in early access and will be improved and being worked on along the line. Thats why the devs will release the game in early access, to listen to feedback and suggestions from the community. The game is very enjoyable. It has a steep learning curve as prisoner, but if you play the tutorial it shouldn't take you long to get all the mechanics. The chases ingame are very fun and while the monster seems very overpowered at the start you do learn how to avoid it and do your objective. You cannot fight back so your only way out is either to stealth around or run away when the monster finds you. The graphics look very good, especially for an indie team. The game has some issues, but thats to be expected from a Beta. Performance is decent if you have a good computer, if your gear doesn't meet the minnimum requirements it should still run on lower resolution and low settings. You might get tiny lagspikes, but as said the overall performance has been drastically improved from the last Beta.

Awesome game with a lot of potential Right now, the game isn't as balanced as it should be Brute is super OP compared to the other monsters Also, adding voice chat would help a lot for the survivors
I loved Monstrum 1, I played it in every incarnation, VR and regular. I loved it because, while it was janky, it still provided a lot of fun and scares. Enough at least to overlook the massive amount of hitching, pop-in, low-res textures, etc. It basically felt like rooting for the underdog and I'm glad they got the deal with Sony to release it on consoles. My issue with this game right now is that it's so very close to coming out, and the experience this team should have received with Monstrum 1 should have been enough to fix those issues. From the very second I started the game, I accidentally found a spot in the level where you can poke your head out of the prison walls and look through the entire level and see all prisoners, monsters, lights, etc. This combined with janky sound design, low res textures, literally everything that they have had enough time to fix at this point. Saying this game is fun with friends means nothing, because anything is fun with friends. I can kick a can down the road and I could rate it a 5/5 because it was fun with friends. This game had so much time to fix any and all of these issues, and yet here I am, back at square one with "the underdog". I've already purchased this game, and I really do regret it. I'm not going to sit here and say "but the potential" because that would give a free pass to this studio, and I'm not doing that anymore. This is a review to say, if this game is not polished by the time it comes out, I'm getting a refund. Which I doubt by the way, because the game comes out in 5 days. Absolutely sick of this trend.
I was really hyped for this game, but in it's current state, I cannot recommend it. I have a decent gaming laptop, but had to turn the settings to absolute minimum to get any sort of consistent FPS. Even then, the maps were almost impossible to navigate during chases due to FPS stutters and terrible lighting. The game really has lost a lot of it's horror aspect from the first and instead feels more arcadey. The monsters aren't really scary and actually look more ridiculous than anything. The animations are absolutely atrocious and to think this game is about to go into early release in a couple days pains me. It is NOT ready for play. Also, whether it's network code or what, the floating monster is a pain to play against due to it being able to grab you from around eight feet away and insta-kill you without any hope of escaping. Also, playing as the ceiling crawling is also extremely disappointing. Look at Natural Selection 2 on how ceiling (and wall) walking should be done. Please, PLEASE implement something like that. The current system can only be described as awful. The path twists and turns randomly and it's very liable to get stuck. Also, when attaching to the ceiling, you pretty much just teleport and can use it as a way to catch up to survivors. I love the concept of this game and really hope it improves, but I CANNOT recommend it in this current state. To describe the overall game, I can only help but to think it's jank.
This is seriously so much fun! All the different things you have to do as survivor is amazing, with so much variety it keeps me engaged! I am a big fan of DBD but I feel it gets really repetitive so I really enjoyed this, getting a new experience from each game! Also seriously best tutorial I have ever received from a game, I felt it went through everything in great detail and gave me great ways to practice the controls! Of course the game isn't perfect but seriously amazing for the BETA, and the map is so pretty like omg I love it! I was seriously blown away by how amazing this game is!! Can't wait to see this game through development, so happy I preordered!
This is a cautious recommendation. This game has good ideas and is a pretty solid foundation, but I do fear the jank will put off a lot of people. It's definitively the right decision to put on early access and I do hope it gets developed further, but I still feel this game needs to be delayed a bit longer. It's good to see more games like dbd; This genre really needs more competition. The fact I actually enjoy playing survivor as much as the monsters tells me this game's heading the right track. There's still some aspects that could use more polishing like animations and the like, but I still had a lot of fun.
First things first: keep in mind that this is a beta and that the game will enter Early Access on the 28th, it is not the full game, it will be obviously be further optimized. I have been a tester for quite a while now and have played this game for about 100 hours on a different branch. I find the game to be quite fun and have had a blast playing it so far. As a beginner it will take you a while to properly get into playing as the prisoner as the learning curve can feel more steep than the monsters, however the tutorials explain all mechanics quite well and should get you ready to jump in and play. Once you know your way around you won't find it as hard to avoid the monster anymore, making it fairly balanced. It is fun to chase and be chased since the movement is very dynamic for both Prisoners and Monsters. This game has a ton of potential and I am looking forward to everything that will be added in the future :)
I was a big fan of the first Monstrum game and I really like the asymmetrical horror genre so I've been following the development of Monstrum 2 for a while. As you would expect with a beta, Monstrum 2 is very rough around the edges but it's easy to see what the developers are going for. My experiences on both sides, monster and prisoner, had issues so I'd like to provide constructive feedback. Prisoner: Despite completing the tutorial, I had no idea what I was doing when I first jumped into the game. I found the objectives quite tricky to follow and it wasn't always clear how to reach certain objectives when you were close enough to see a symbol for them. I would definitely have more tutorial prompts in game for newer players. The first game I made it to the end for a submarine escape and had no idea how to actually board the submarine. It turned out that there was a patch on the floor that said "escape" which wasn't very easy to see. Myself and another survivor were looking all around the submarine using chat to try and figure out what we were supposed to be doing. I also found the audio very difficult to follow, even with a Steelseries headset, it wasn't always easy to tell where the monster was, just simply that they were around. Monster: I found that I would get stuck on invisible objects a lot which whilst expected from a beta, could be quite frustrating. I also had issues with the climbing vines regularly bugging out. This wouldn't have been such an issue if the elevators couldn't be so easily exploited. There isn't a cooldown, which means that prisoners can (and routinely did) take the elevator up and down continuously at times taking the game hostage until the timer would run down, and as the vines bugged out the route from top to bottom was typically a lengthy one. I'm not sure if it was unlucky RNG but I also found that there were a large number of exploitable windows and crawl spaces where I would have to literally backtrack to make it to the other side, where the prisoner had ample warning and could jump back through in 0.5 seconds. Again, I ran into audio issues on the monster side, whilst playing as the Brute I felt like I was incredibly reliant on my tracking ability (E). Sometimes the audio was decent when prisoners were around, other times not so much. I also ran into an issue with the lobby itself where someone playing monster went afk but rather than being booted out, the game recognised them as a prisoner and continually made a lobby of 5 prisoners. One of the devs made it into the lobby and after 20 mins or so performed some sort of reboot which kicked us all out and restarted the game. I'm sure that the devs have many ideas that they'd like to implement but for early access to retain a player base, I'd say that there has to be some sort of progression system. Even if it is for simple rewards like skins, nameplates and so on; there has to be a reason to continue playing. I would also love to see perks implemented, even if they were basic early on such as an extra inventory space or ability to track objectives; just little changes you could make to reflect your playstyle. I feel like DBD (and F13th once upon a time) is the only asymmetrical horror game which has been able to establish itself with games such as Hide or Die and Last Year failing to retain a player base. There is definitely an appetite for more alternatives within the genre so I'm hopeful the devs can gain valuable information from the beta and early access to make this a success.
