Monster Hunter: World

I may only have a few hours on this game on Steam, but I have around 3000 hours on all platforms combined, and I can safely say this is my favorite game I have ever played. It is simply Monster Hunter perfected.

This game has a very beautiful world, with fun and creative weapon and enemy designs. Visually, the game is nice to look at, and all of the monsters have their own unique quirks and different environments that make them stand out and require a different approach to fight. Unfortunately, the actual "fighting" is where Monster Hunter World becomes a pretty agitating and what feels like a poorly designed experience. To put it shortly, combat does not flow. There are very very few attacks that can be cancelled out of (unlike, for example, any souls game), ESPECIALLY for the heavier weapons like the great sword or hammer. What this means is that every single attack you input you are committing 100% to with no room for adjustment. You cannot change where you aim your attack, you cannot roll out of it, you are stuck in that animation until the end of your slooooow swing. If you want to run to gain any sort of mobility in this game, you must holster your weapon, which is another sloooow animation. Conversely, the monsters you fight move quite fast, and do not stay still for long at all. Their hitboxes are not always the most obvious, so sometimes the edges of for example my hammer would visibly clip through parts of the monster with no hit being registered. This will not stop their attacks from having massive hitboxes, where no physical part of the monster overlaps with my character but yet I still get knocked back and take damage. Perhaps they hit so hard that the sheer shockwave through the air sends me flying? Combine slow and non-adjustable combat animations with violently fast monsters and you get what from my experience is a very frustrating and clunky combat system in a game that ultimately is nothing without its combat. The game is well designed from a visual standpoint, but seems to fall right at the starting gun with its primary gameplay mechanic being a poorly designed one.

"Multiplayer"-mode is so rubbish, it makes me mad

This was my first monster hunter game and I know this is a canon event for a first monster hunter game but I didn't like it at first so I stopped playing for almost a year and then I stopped playing my favourite game (RIP Destiny 2 :() and thought I would try this one again and I loved it and spent a couple hundred hours playing. Anyways I can't recommend this game enough, if you aren't sure just get it on sale. Also you should get Iceborne as well.
