great game.
this game is kind of all over the place in regards to the story, but i think that's supposed to be the point since the main character is mentally ill. you end up having to read between the lines just to try and guess and what might be actually going on with her. her name is milk, but she seems allergic to milk, too, and she imagines that her mother is some kind of monster. her thoughts are little fireflies and you have to catch them, because her thoughts are... scattered. there are a few lines of dialogue that suggest the person talking to her might be a psychologist or therapist, but you are voicing that character at times and they're never visible, and at other times it makes it seem like the character you're voicing is part of her, since she says you are her or she is you at times. her parents are never visible as themselves, either, but she talks about them sometimes in normal ways. i think milk is supposed to be a reflection of her disdain for herself, she likes milk and drinks it but claims she hates it and some monster-esque creature was stabbing her with it's nails telling her to promise not to drink it. it's never directly said that she's allergic to milk, only implied. why would a monster, something you'd think would harm her, make her promise not to drink milk? it's odd. you never actually see her mother or father, if that creature wasn't her mom. the writing does a good job of portraying mental illness, i do think some of the confusing translated parts help with that, since i don't think the game was made originally in English. i could be wrong. the story is all over the place and barely makes any sense, you are able to piece a few things together but not enough to truly understand. there is a goal, something she expects, and there is death, just not in the typical sense. it's a very short game, her perceptions of everything are so different from what you would expect from a healthy minded person. it's odd to see it and experience it and i would think that's exactly how it must feel to be someone psychotic. do i think it's good? idk. most of me says no, but i do think it conveys psychosis better than most games i've seen despite that, and i think that's the point. the art is decent, but nothing to write home about. i do like the music, so that was a plus for me, but there wasn't a whole lot of it. it was more used to convey emotion in scenes which i think worked well. it was mostly repetitive so they didn't do a whole lot of variation with it, but it's a short game so that may be why. it's aesthetically pleasing and i think because it's more of a graphic novel game that matters a lot here. i would say it's a 5/10. i can't expect coherence from a game trying to accurately relay mental illness in an emotional sense, but without the cognition to make sense of the story, it mostly flounders where the art impresses. the art is kind of amateur, but it's pretty. the music is decent, just not a lot of it.

after playing the first game i had played this one shortly after, and replayed it again today. i think it does a good job at showing what a psychotic episode can look like, combined with an obsessive compulsive disorder. i think story wise it leaves a lot to be desired. i love the faint hum and buzzes in the background and the occasional change in music when dialog happens. i think the dream sequence was unclear and riddled with what feels like pure anxiety, which is what dreams are, confusing and abnormal. i love the aesthetic of both this game and the first one. i think it did a great take on mental health and how losing its grip on reality in turn can, and will break you, not a very long game and is actually very a little disorienting but so is the human brain. play it at least once.
