METAL GEAR SOLID Δ: SNAKE EATER

This is a great remake of a classic. For those who haven't played, Metal Gear Solid 3 is widely considered the best of the series. It's not to bring down the other titles either, this one is just that good! The story's incredible, definitely the best of the MGS games in my opinion. The graphical overhaul really brings the game to life. I really appreciate the fact that they used the original sound files for the dialogue, it wouldn't have felt right if they didn't get the same actors for everything. The story doesn't change at all. I only played the original briefly, although I've seen plenty of play throughs, so I'm not sure how faithful the game play was to the original but from what I recall, they did a great job. My big complaint is the optimization. There were some serious frame drops that I shouldn't be experiencing with my computer. The fight with the Fury was especially terrible. I was struggling to maintain even 20 FPS if I got hit by fire. You pretty much have to complete that fight without getting hit because you're just going to burn to death while you struggle to even figure out where you are in the room with the terrible frame rate and knock back when getting burned. That particular fight also didn't translate well to the modern camera style which didn't help the frustration with the poor optimization. While other sections also had optimization issues, the Fury was the only one that really drove me nuts, almost to the point of giving up. Aside from the optimization issues, the remake is great. The game play might feel a bit dated if you haven't played games of that generation but Metal Gear Solid 3 is a game everyone should experience. A modern remake is great to see, even with optimization issues. Everyone should play this at some point.
