METAL GEAR RISING: REVENGEANCE

Just a great overall game of a very interesting character, peak game for its time, and still interesting to me to this day.

After getting this game recommended to me because I played the DMC series, the Ninja Gaiden series, Bayonetta, and Stellar Blade. I can say, after finishing it, that this game is really cool! This game reminds me of an "easier" Ninja Gaiden game. While some bosses and enemies did give me a hard time, I was never really stuck for too long. Given that I haven't tried the hardest difficulty yet. The parry system is different from all of the other games I mentioned, which I did enjoy. The fighting felt really cool, and the execution was really satisfying. Even if you mess it up, you can still slice an enemy to atoms! While the game did have purchasable combos, I never really felt like I needed them. But while using them was fun, you don't get told how to use the combo while purchasing it. It's just written as "This lets Raiden pole vault and slam it into the ground". But the game never tells you how to do it. You have to figure that out in another menu. It's a small thing, but worth mentioning, because I'm comparing it to other games within the same genre. Oh yeah. And the music goes absolutely hard! I only had 2 complaints about this game. One being Raiden's voice acting. Sometimes he would talk like he was using Batman's voice, and sometimes he felt kinda too nice? It never felt consistent. My other complaint was the running movement. Like Ninja Gaiden. You have a button that you hold down to maneuver around obstacles with a single button. But it would never really do what I wanted it to do. Without spoilers. There is a section where you need to jump from a tall structure to a roof, and while you would think you should just hold down the "ninja run" button, Raiden just never made the jump. I fell to my death 3 or 4 times before just doing the jump without running... So, a summary. Pros: Combat is good and feels tight. Parrying feels different from games like DMC, Stellar Blade, Bayonetta, and Ninja Gaiden. Very cool execution mechanic where you can split anything into atoms! The soundtrack absolutely slaps! Combos are fun to use! Love the Bayblade. Cons: The MC (Raiden) Voice actor sounds inconsistent. Sprinting sucks! Combos don't feel necessary. My rating system is 5 is considered average. Because it's in the middle... Besides my 2 complaints, I give this game a 7/10.
