Meow My Crop! is a free farming game where we play as a cat and grow crops by using our keyboard and mouse. It is a pretty unusual idea because our normal computer use is basically part of the game. The more we click and type, the more our crops grow and the more fruit we can collect. The best thing about it is how simple and relaxing it feels. We do not have to worry about complicated farming systems or managing a huge amount of resources. We can just sit there, use our computer normally and slowly watch the little farm grow. It works really well as something to keep open in the background. The collecting is where most of the longer term appeal comes from. We can trade our fruit for more than 700 different items, including cat skins, hats, clothes, emotes, stools and other decorations. There are also different fertilizers and other items that give us more things to work towards. The multiplayer is a fun idea too. We can play together, share growth points and even steal fruit from another farm. There are also items that can be thrown onto someone else's screen, which makes the otherwise peaceful farming a bit more chaotic. It is a much more entertaining idea when we have someone else to mess around with. There is also a focus assistant that gives us different types of white noise while we use the game, which fits the whole desktop companion idea quite well. We can basically have it running while doing other things and let the farm slowly build up in the background. The biggest problem is that the actual farming is extremely basic. We are mostly clicking, typing, collecting fruit and spending it on cosmetics. There is not much proper farming management here, so once the novelty wears off, there is not a huge amount of gameplay underneath it. The collection system can also become very grindy. Some of the rarer items have extremely low drop chances, so getting everything would take a very long time. We can also start feeling like we are doing the same thing repeatedly just to get another cosmetic item. Overall, Meow My Crop! is a cute little desktop game that does a good job of turning normal computer use into a simple farming system. The huge collection, multiplayer features and relaxing style give it more to do than the basic idea suggests, but the actual gameplay is very limited and the grind can become a bit much. It works best when we treat it as a relaxing side game rather than a full farming game. Rating: 7/10
