I spent about a week trying to get MW2 Mercenaries running on my steam deck and eventually got it running pretty well and without a ton of bugs. I have played probably 30 to 40 hours of the original MW2 Mercs on DosBox. I really wish I had known about this project instead, I could have saved a lot of time messing around. This game does everything the original MW2 Mercs does and it is fantastic! Runs like a dream on the steam deck out of the box, controls are easy to map, the view distance isn't 300 meters like in the Dos version of MW2. There are a few things the original game does better, namely the sounds and voice acting which is understandable because it was a full team creating a big budget game, this just isn't that but it does so much of what the original MW2 game does but better and much easier for the average person to get into! I honestly think that once this project has a little bit more mission variety, some UI work, and some refinement on the music and voice acting, there will be virtually no reason to return to the legendary MW2 Mercs over this incredible game

Not a very good clone of the mech warrior games.
i recommend this game only because this needs to be seen to be believed, the game isn't low quality or a scam, even if i were to pay money for it what this is; a loving knockoff this game doesn't have STOLEN assets per se, but the assets such as pilot portraits, and some logos, as well as some mecha designs are obviously traced in the concept art and in-game over copyrighted originals, which I'm guessing is meant as placeholder assets, this game is nothing BUT placeholder assets, gameplay and actual code stability it's not a bad game, but it is very obviously a fan game that flew too close to the sun, melting it's wings of feathers and wax. my last thoughts on this game: this is "MechWarrior 2 Mercenaries at home" 29 years after the fact, where you could download the abandonware version, or run the original disk through highly specialized emulators and get virtually the same experience gameplay-wise but with imo a far richer story to back it up. final conclusion: worth a try for the lulz, game has no staying power, and is freeware potentially due to copyright troubles.
Like mechwarrior 4, but free and not locked to 4:3, and without any serious story mode unfortunately. The UI is a little limited in terms of overall design, the visuals are pretty rough with everything coming across way too shiny or low res, and the content is a bit samey, but for the price of [literally nothing] it's great, and somehow a better followup than MW5. Would love to have a "disable texture filtering" option since I prefer that to washed out textures.
a new beginning !! at the end it may be modable and playerdriven for Years ? let us hope so 7/10++
This game has so much potential, sadly since the developer has not done anything with it since 2022 the many flaws will not likely be fixed. Play the demo don't get the game unless there is more work done on it, or if nothing else some sort of response from the developer. Every battle the AI just runs straight at any enemy to point blank range and shoots until one side or the other runs out of armor. You can't even tell them to try to maintain distance. LRM boats and machine gun carriers use the same tactics.
11/10 very fun.
It's very rough around the edges, in UI look, feel, and navigation including inventory and mission management. Mech movement and aiming feels disconnected from the mech, without enough weight, inertia, or smoothing. Could use multiplayer. Would give it more replay value even despite those things.
Good demo! Has that excellent old school mech combat quality that just scratches an itch. Makes me want to buy a flight joystick again. Keep it up!
