✩ Very very very frustrating, but that just makes progressing so much more rewarding. ✩ I have yet to complete it as I keep getting stuck at the peak of level 3 and falling back to 1, but that's a skill issue. I'll update this review when I complete the game or if anything changes :). ✩ Playing the same parts over and over again makes them easier each time, so it's not *impossibly* frustrating. ✩ The narrator (?) is cheeky but you can tell they support you in your endeavor. ✩ You have to use a controller, I personally use a PS5 controller. ✩ The mechanics are tricky to get used to, but as long as you don't overthink it and let your muscle memory control, it's pretty smooth sailing.
i cant pass level 2 not because im bad at math but my hands grow from my ass

Right out of the gate nearly impossibly difficult to play with no clearly helpful math teaching value.
Note: I received a key for this game for free from the dev. While this isn't my usual type of game to play, I wanted to give it a go since I thoroughly enjoyed aeiou's previous title, Cardiare. And, oh boy, this game is hard. I haven't been able to beat it yet, my best being the 6th level (out of 9, I think?) but I think it's pretty good. The actual climbing mechanic feels pretty good to use once you get used to it, the narrator's charming, and the music's pretty good. There's also a set of randomized events, such as flipping the background, that make things a bit more interesting, and I expect it to be used maliciously further up. As for complaints, I wish it was a little bit faster to get back once you fall down, since most of the gameplay is going to be re-climbing sections you've covered before, but that's probably an issue with the genre? There are shortcuts that let you do parts faster if you can manage them, but they can be hard to find, since you can't zoom out or check the map. Another complaint I have is that the path is composed of both images (such as a wolf or a blackberry) and generic blocks. I'm often unsure of which direction I need to go after falling because falling onto a blue block looks the same as 10 other blue blocks. The last issue I have is that I wish I could just *click* on the answer I want to pick instead of having to hit 1 2 or 3 on my keyboard. But, overall, I quite enjoy the game, especially when it's sight reading new paths, interacting with the narrator, or it's just a good climbing segment, and I think if I was someone who enjoyed this genre, it would absolutely be worth the price. PS: If I never see a blackberry in my life again it would be too soon.
