Some guy said in his review that this game is more like a DLC than an actual full sized game. I didn't pay much heed to that before diving into it which I slightly regret. It took me just ~15 hours to complete the whole story of the game including all side missions and misc. tasks (100% completion w/o NG+).
Don't get me wrong, Miles Morales is a pretty well written character and this edition of the game makes him shine more by helping you understand his background and journey in an immersive manner. The people around him, are as they are called, "side characters". I would have personally liked it more if those characters would have a bit more depth. Rio Morales and Uncle Aaron are the only ones who are very written.
Coming to the story, it has more flaws than strengths in my opinion. Specifically the antagonist of this game, I will not twist my words, is straight up bland. Without giving away too much detail, their back story is the same old, too over used villain arc which did not even sit right with me because it was so dumb at almost each important point. I was more annoyed at how things were playing, than excited. You can see most of the things coming from a LONG way and they have been presented in a rather anti-climatic manner.
Combat is the same exact that was seen in Spiderman Remaster and I would even go a notch up and say that it was done better in the first game in terms of raw challenge and the competence/stature of the enemies. Side missions are mostly fun and the Friendly spider app is a great addition. Come to think of it, I see too many similarities between this game and Spiderman Brand New Day in terms of storyline and presentation, not that it makes any difference in either of the experiences.
Overall a 7/10 in my opinion which had a tremendous potential to go all the way.
Great visuals and a fluidic experience but an underwhelming story with no oomph factor and a weak character buildout overall (with the exception of Miles). It's a no brainer that purchasing this specific game can be skipped (due to a low value for money factor) but if you like Spiderman and don't mind dishing out the amount, go for it.
