Does not run on Linux
I would like to first say that I enjoyed the open beta greatly *after* I switched to PS5, and as someone who loves Dragon Ball FighterZ and other ARKsys titles, I had a good time. The PC version of the open beta however, was running at 50-58 fps during battle regardless of graphic settings, and online matches against PC players were horrid even after switching to PS5. I was hoping that it was just beta growing pains and that the full release would be different, but I was wrong much to my disappointment. Despite blowing the recommended system requirements out of the water, I couldn't hold a stable 60fps despite my best efforts to change every setting that i could find, and this is *after* the PC performance adjustments they announced on social media. The game does run "better" than the open beta on my hardware, but the range pf 58-60fps with random fps drops still isn't good enough for the game to properly function as expected. Unfortunately for a fighting game, not being able to hold the 60fps framerate is a death sentence across the board when these games are so timing centric and responsiveness is paramount. The online experience suffers greatly from this, as the net-code will target the "true game state" of the player experiencing performance problems, creating one-sided connection issues for the player that can hold 60fps with no drops. I cannot recommend this game in good faith, and strongly recommend waiting until they fix this. Some people are saying "It runs fine for me, must be your PC bro!" but after my experience with Monster Hunter Wilds, I sincerely doubt the legitimacy of these statements. This statement also doesn't explain my experience with other games with higher hardware requirements, or even ARKsys's other fighting games. If you would like to test your luck to find out if your god's favorite person, Steam's refund policy is an incredible insurance policy to find out if you experience these issues on your hardware. Just make sure to thoroughly test within the time-limit of 2 hours. As for me, this killed a lot of excitement of a game I was looking forward to, and I am currently debating whether or not buy the PS5 version, or skip entirely on both platforms. So to summarize, the horrible technical issues with performance blocked me from enjoying the "game" part of the video game, despite my hardware objectively, being more than capable of running this game.
The game is called Fighting Souls because the game feels like it's Fighting my Soul.
As the game has started consistently getting a fatal error and crashing as soon as I get into a match, I don't think I will be recommending it.
The game runs in slow motion on my PC and is completely unplayable on Mac crossover because of the anti-cheat. I can't comment on the gameplay because the majority of my time was spent messing with the settings hoping for a smooth experience. I would check back in a few months when they've finally fixed the PC port.
This is a good game completely ruined by intrusive DRM and bloatware. No, it is not fixed either. The latest Windows update conflicts with EAC and causes pretty fatal crashes. A pirated version exists without all the intrusive DRM, and surprising no one it runs so much better. When people who get the game for free are getting a better experience than paying consumers, you know you've screwed up. Ironically the DRM and bloatware is likely a huge source of the one-sided rollback and performance issues, which means that it probably will never be fixed due to Sony. While the Windows update causing crashes in EAC games isn't exclusive to this, other games have at least issued a response, which this game has issued nothing but radio silence. I understand games can't always be fixed instantly, but leaving the game in this state with no communication while pirates actually get to play a functional version is baffling. The Theia DRM is clearly pointless now, so Sony needs to step and remove it before the reception to this game plummets even farther. Anyone who parrots that the game is fixed needs to stop because now we have literal proof that paying for this game gave us a worse experience.
Game just crashed during survival mode within the first hour of playing I can't recommend something until it's fixed
Incredible fighting game! I've been long disappointed with ArcSys' recent lineup, and they finally seem to have broken good ground with a game that has creativity, accessibility and complexity, without feeling overly restrictive or linear. There are some issues worth ironing out, but they've been quick to address them from the betas to now. This is the most excited I've been for a new fighting game in many years (and didn't end up burned by the purchase). Now look at my specs. By the way, all of these negative reviews are for nothing. It's ArcSys that loses here by having their game sabotaged. Sony's already been planning on pulling out of the PC market given their games don't sell, and will just write it off to their shareholders by saying "See? Our players prefer playing on PlayStation." That, and the invasive anticheat is obviously a measure against the competition of the Steam Deck/Machine as well as the potential XBOX competitor to those and the Switch. They sincerely don't care. It's a total win that this PC port is a wreck, more to the pile for their vendor lock-in.
I love Marvel. I grew up loving Marvel fighting games, and the frustrating part is: I genuinely love this game. But I do NOT love the state this game is in. It's embarrassing. In a single night, the game crashed on me three separate times. The first crash corrupted my save and left the game unable to load it without completely resetting my progress. After manually recovering an older version of my save through Windows, I got back in only for the game to crash and corrupt it again. I recovered it a second time and gave the game another chance. It crashed a THIRD TIME, this time in the middle of a match, completely freezing my entire PC and forcing a hard shutdown. Three crashes. Two corrupted saves. One completely frozen PC. See what I did there? ;) That's not a minor launch bug. That's not an occasional hiccup. That's a game I now don't feel comfortable launching because I'm wondering whether the next match is going to destroy my save again. And that sucks, because underneath all of this is a fighting game I really, really like. I want to play it. I want to recommend it. I want this to be another Marvel fighting game I sink a ridiculous amount of time into. But I can't recommend a game that repeatedly punishes me just for trying to play it. I've requested a refund. If the stability problems are fixed, I'd genuinely consider buying it again. But right now, this game is simply not in a condition I consider reliably playable or sellable.
