MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls

The game runs in slow motion on my PC and is completely unplayable on Mac crossover because of the anti-cheat. I can't comment on the gameplay because the majority of my time was spent messing with the settings hoping for a smooth experience. I would check back in a few months when they've finally fixed the PC port.

I love Marvel. I grew up loving Marvel fighting games, and the frustrating part is: I genuinely love this game. But I do NOT love the state this game is in. It's embarrassing. In a single night, the game crashed on me three separate times. The first crash corrupted my save and left the game unable to load it without completely resetting my progress. After manually recovering an older version of my save through Windows, I got back in only for the game to crash and corrupt it again. I recovered it a second time and gave the game another chance. It crashed a THIRD TIME, this time in the middle of a match, completely freezing my entire PC and forcing a hard shutdown. Three crashes. Two corrupted saves. One completely frozen PC. See what I did there? ;) That's not a minor launch bug. That's not an occasional hiccup. That's a game I now don't feel comfortable launching because I'm wondering whether the next match is going to destroy my save again. And that sucks, because underneath all of this is a fighting game I really, really like. I want to play it. I want to recommend it. I want this to be another Marvel fighting game I sink a ridiculous amount of time into. But I can't recommend a game that repeatedly punishes me just for trying to play it. I've requested a refund. If the stability problems are fixed, I'd genuinely consider buying it again. But right now, this game is simply not in a condition I consider reliably playable or sellable.

Have no technical issues with it. Feels like a mix of everything Arc Sys has worked on bundled into 1 game with 4v4 tag being the standout feature. Having been a casual enjoyer of other fighting games, I would say this one might be the sweatiest one I've played. The skill ceiling is very high. The ability to swap between 4 characters gives an incredibly dense space for in-game choices and possibilites, and the cognitive mental stack of what is going on feels much higher than I'd say strive or street fighter 6. Plenty to enjoy for people wanting to get into fighting games but I wouldn't recommend it to a beginner as much as I would recommend Strive or Street Fighter 6. For people who actually play fighting games there is much to love and enjoy. Very fun game. If you enjoy labbing stuff in the training room then this game is definitely for you.

Incredible fighting game! I've been long disappointed with ArcSys' recent lineup, and they finally seem to have broken good ground with a game that has creativity, accessibility and complexity, without feeling overly restrictive or linear. There are some issues worth ironing out, but they've been quick to address them from the betas to now. This is the most excited I've been for a new fighting game in many years (and didn't end up burned by the purchase). Now look at my specs. By the way, all of these negative reviews are for nothing. It's ArcSys that loses here by having their game sabotaged. Sony's already been planning on pulling out of the PC market given their games don't sell, and will just write it off to their shareholders by saying "See? Our players prefer playing on PlayStation." That, and the invasive anticheat is obviously a measure against the competition of the Steam Deck/Machine as well as the potential XBOX competitor to those and the Switch. They sincerely don't care. It's a total win that this PC port is a wreck, more to the pile for their vendor lock-in.

I love you ArcSys, you made such a cool game. Sony, fix my ♥♥♥♥ and let me actually run the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game on my OS. Who tf is cheating in fighting games?
