this game sucks. its bad. not even considering the networking issues or slowdowns, this is the worst fighting game to get a new player into.
to start off, the auto combo system. this piece of ♥♥♥♥ is worse in every way to fighterz. in their previous 3v3 tag fighter they made a universal system that both subsituted damage for consistency, but also allowed new players to press other attacks in between to get more combo damage, allowing them to learn by playing. in tokkon? instead of auto combos doing attacks that you could do, it does new attacks you cant do otherwise. even worse, it does it after pressing the same attack more than ONCE. this means a new player who is mashing buttons never has the chance to learn they can string together attacks to make combos. its worse for new players.
then there are assists. oh god the assists. never have I ever experienced more visual clutter in a modern fighting game. each assist comes back from cooldown after just 1.5 seconds, and you have 3 of them, so its non-stop spamming assists at each other. after all why not? it comes back so soon you probably use another assist and have the first one back up, with another to spare! this is ALSO bad for new players who arent going to know how to get around carnage or ghost rider zoning with assist spam, and dont worry, it gets worse! the button recognition of this game is the most ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ive ever seen. old titles that are 30+ years old have better button recognition, and its all because the game wont let you use assists or buffer certain actions like super unless you are in a very specific state flagged specifically for it. games uses to just let you cancel things, and here tokkon doesnt. this makes the entire game feel like a clunky, unpolished mess where you cant intuit anything. want to call assist? sorry bud, cant do that until you are on the next frame of hitting the move you just hit? why? because its needlessly arbitrary!
the whole game is clunky, and sadly thats not a product of it being new and people not being accustomed to it, its by design. my guess is they took all of the Marvel vs Capcom players and got them to playtest. the same people playing another bad game, because they love how jank it is. but jank does not make a game good.
