great game.love the theme...
Bought this to play against a friend, not for solo play. Very primitive controls and battle feedback. Most battles hard to tell what is going on or even who is really winning. Battle replay in multiplayer mode too cluttered. Good sound effects, horrible intro song (turned it off). Seemed like a great concept, but the implementation is too crude to enjoy.
Great little game with a unik subject matter: Ancient Naval Battles. The gameplay and tactics are deeper than you should think, and the graphics (though basic), looks good and clear. The campaigns are interesting and different, and should give you many hours of quality gametime. It's not worth the full price, but at half price on sale, it's a little gem for fans of Ancient warfare.
The game it's self is good and you should buy it.
This is a GREAT lil pocket game straight out of the mid 80s!! cough [Ram Speed] I played this for a couple oh hours an it was really fun to decide how to customize my ships, with larger crew, siege engines, extra marines! spiked boarding blanks, fire pots etc. In my battle i was out numbered by 11 Triremes. My ships were larger an had more crew so i captured several enemy ships an turned um on there former owners! Thirty minutes later i had fought to a draw, the battle was dynamic interesting an really a lot of fun. I've been looking for this game for 15 years an i am oh so glad to have finally found it! Create your fleet an send thous pesky bad guy ships to Davie Jones's locker!
I love that this exists, I would describe it as Combat Mission but for ancient naval warfare. It has command radii like CM, WEGO, 60-second turns, you can fast-forward to get through boring/uneventful parts of a battle. I enjoyed playing while listening to a podcast as a way to relax. Learning about ancient naval warfare is very interesting, these units are nothing like land warfare units you may be used to from Combat Mission.
This was on my wishlist for a year and a half and I'm glad I pulled the trigger. The game is made with the unity engine which makes battles run well and offer visual interest. The controls are easy to pick up but I can tell it'll take me a while to hone my skills. If you like Field of Glory II, or ancient warfare in general, this is worth the price.
This game fills a unique position, as there really aren't many games on the market which let you tactically engage with the galley warfare of the ancient Mediterranean, even though these tactics are some of the most interesting battles of the ancient world, and the fundamentals of the strategy aren't that hard to understand. I wouldn't pick up this game at full price, as it has pretty limited ambition, but at 5 USD, it's a good deal if you are an ancient history fan.
Runs and fails - like any of the games on this site. Where is the maintenance and file cleaning? No, you pay your money and get an un-supported piece of code.
So, I have played several scenarios (not just the tutorials, as some people who recommended this game did) and this is not a good game. As mentioned elsewhere, the WEGO turns are too long and unpredictable, making it difficult to develop a cohesive plan. Additionally, it’s a logistical nightmare to regroup my formations without losing contact with the commander. Why isn’t there an automatic regroup tool? On top of that, after some time, the sea becomes a chaotic mess with collided and immobilized ships, and it’s just not fun to navigate the remaining vessels in this scrapyard. And by the way, the Battle of Artemisium is the most ridiculous scenario I have ever played in a wargame. The player has to just sit and wait for 18 turns (!!!) for the slowly approaching Persians. Why, just why?!
