POSITIVE POINTS:
- Action, puzzles, racing and platforming all rolled into one! - It has no more and no less than 70 levels, encompassed in different varieties, such as catching a certain number of gems or completing a course in a certain time: guaranteed fun. - The control is very intuitive and precise: if we make a mistake, it will be 100% our fault, not the game's. - Each level has different secrets that we can discover. That, together with the fact that we can get up to 4 stars, which depend on the time we have done, makes it very replayable. - It's a LOT of fun, especially thanks to the online leaderboards: compete to see who has the fastest time!
NEGATIVE POINTS:
- Although the game is suitable for beginners, it has tracks that will make you sweat until you get used to them and can master them. - 70 levels ends up being too few... We want more!
CONCLUSIONS:
Patti Hattu! - Cosmic Revolt is a game that offers an exciting mix of action, puzzle solving, racing and platforming. It stands out for its frenetic pace and great level design, although the music may not be to everyone's taste.
EVALUATION:
8/10. Are you a fan of Monkey Ball and Marble It Up! Don't think twice, this is the game for you, haven't you played them? Give it a chance, because if you fit in with what it has to offer, you're guaranteed to have fun. After playing the demo I immediately bought the full game, with zero hesitation. I adore marble games. Usually, when a new Marble game comes out on Steam, it's either a Marble Blast Ultra clone, a Monkey Ball clone or, most often, a low-effort project that was obviously the creator following a "roll-a-ball" tutorial in their engine of choice. Patti Hattu is none of these things. I only wish its name was more representative of what you do in the game! This game is all about exploring and racing through a variety of shockingly good-looking environments with a heavier-than-expected marble machine. You've always got a boost *and* a break handy (with cooldowns) that make for a really unique and interesting entry in the genre. Each level has up to 3 stars to get for good times, plus an S-rank 4th star for extremely speedy times. Separately from the time trials, each level also has a hidden star to find, and some of them are extremely well hidden! The game never forces you to grind for stars, and one could simply breeze through this game at a leisurely pace enjoying the level design, but for those interested in mastery there's a ton of depth and challenge to be had here. Patti Hattu is an absolute gem - I can't recommend it highly enough!
Cleverly designed levels, solid controls and a wonderful art style. Quick and snappy menus.
A review copy was provided by the developer.
🔶 Marble Abduction! Patti Hattu is a super monkey ball like, based on platform, on a total of 70 levels 🔶
Graphics (7,5 / 10) :
Overall nice graphics, with multiples design, like city, forest, desert or ice / snow land, night place … https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3304687329
Gameplay (8 / 10) :
Easy to learn, hard to master, you control a ball, that can jump, use an air break, or some specific powerup on a level like a jetpack for a high jump, and you have to complete the level fast as you can, for collecting stars for unlocking new levels and skins for your ball. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3304687967 Each level has a hidden star to found, and a bonus star for a almost perfect time (each level have 5 stars, one for completing the level, one hidden in the level, and 3 for the time (silver / gold, and hidden platinum time). These stars unlock new chapters, there a total of 7 chapters, and each have 10 levels, for a total of 70 levels. After a chapter completed, you can also play all levels as one as a speedrun for collecting bonus challenge stars, that count into your total of stars, so required for the 100%. These stars also unlock new skins for your ball, there a total of +50 skins to collect.
Price (7 / 10) :
Game cost 12€, and take around 4h for main complexion, and 6-8h for the last chapter / and 100% of each levels, a pretty nice content for the price..
Story/Music/Optimization (7 / 10) :
Just a unique cinematic, show you as a human captured by aliens, for a test on a “ball vehicle” https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3304687709 Game is translated in multiples languages, also in French, with some dialogue, mainly for tutorial on levels using new mechanics (jump, chrono to collect for extra time, jetpack for higher jump …) The music is overall good, with multiples songs, and multiples sound effect for rolling on dirt / road / jump … Great optimization, work well in my computer with short loading time, in base setting (played on a i5; RAM = 8Go; VRAM = 2Go)
Final Note (7,4 / 10) :
🔶 Marble Abduction! Patti Hattu is a solid super monkey ball like with a solid content, overall a nice level design, recommended for fan of these types of games 🔶 * 💚💚💚 : - Solid content (70 levels, 50+ skins, a total of +500 stars to collect in the whole game). - Short level, with overall nice level design, and multiples new mechanics in the game ❌❌❌ : - Pretty short game if completing in straight way (only with the minimum number of stars required) - Can’t skip a level is this one is too hard. Unbeliveable! For less than the price of 1 kilogram of norwegian cheese, you can get this gem! Surely, this wont fill your stomach, but shaving of another split second of an already near-perfected run fills you with a satisfaction you won't get from said cheese. 11/10 Highly recommend! Amazing level designs - easy enough to be enjoyable for inexperienced abductees, but also challenging enough to truly master in the battle for leaderboard positions. Progression is good, gradually increasing in difficulty as you begin to get the hang of the mechanics. Visually looks really good, and varies through the different tiers. Music is great too. Various environment props, obstacles and time-bonus pickups, makes a fun routing dilemma. After being abducted and forced to perform in this galactic trial of skill, I no longer care about returning home..
Been enjoying this a lot on my steamdeck, runs great out of the box with gorgeous visuals. It scratches a similar itch to trackmania where you want to always keep improving your times on levels, there's always some kind of way to get to the finish line faster, making this hard to put down at times :). Recommend!
Very accessible racer, ideal for casual players and those who prefer to beat the top times. Although you control a ball, you are actually a human who was abducted by aliens and is now forced to participate in challenges for their enjoyment. Aliens are simple colored blobs that appear to be quite harmless. They simply want to observe. You begin in the Main Menu, their spaceship, where you can choose tracks and ball skins. At first, just four are unlocked, but you can gain more by earning stars on tracks. There are numerous skins available, but they serve no use other than to change the appearance of the ball. Most of them are quite interesting and include skins such as different type of sport balls and animals. The controls are simple and ideal for everyone. You only have directional buttons for rolling the ball across the track and jumping. The remaining two powers, boost and parachute, require a few seconds to recharge. Jumping and then rapidly boosting while still in the air is the main maneuver that allows you to cut bends and skip sections of the course. Parachute is equally important for getting the best score because it allows you to instantly break. The faster you finish a course, the more stars you'll get. Depending on your performance, you could be awarded up to three stars and a unique S-star for the fastest time. Naturally, getting the best time necessitates grinding a track until you understand every bend, obstacle, and shortcut. Watch icons that freeze time for a short period of time can be useful; smaller icons work only for an instant, while larger icons stop time for a few seconds. There is also a unique star that takes some platforming and exploring. Each track contains one, but they are always hidden. You can't search indefinitely because you only have so much time to complete the track. However, there is plenty of time because the tracks are not particularly large. Even if the track is more challenging, checkpoints save you from having to restart the entire track after making a single mistake. Aliens will also try to join in the fun, cheering you on from the sidelines or even standing in the middle of the track. Running them over is enjoyable since they leave a colored mark on both the ground and your ball. What I find meaningless is the heart icon. When you pick it up, you can respawn in a checkpoint at the same time you entered. However, this only works once. While it can fix one mistake, it is ineffective in practice. First, you drop out of the checkpoint with no speed, which means you've already wasting time. Second, it's difficult to attain the best time on the first try. Since you have to get familiar with the track across multiple runs, you don't need the heart in the end. Each track takes less than a minute or two to beat. Ideally, after you learn it, you should be able to finish it in seconds. The game is divided into six tiers, each containing ten tracks. Although all are filled with Earth assets to give it a more familiar appearance, stages are built up with various ramps and platforms to simulate a racetrack. You will also encounter various environments, such as suburbia, construction yards, winter settings, and so on. Towards the end of the first world, the game adds an objective of collecting gems. If you don’t grab them all, you won’t be able to finish the track. These tracks are usually harder because they force you to take a detour and plan your route. Another twist are no-jump zones where you have to use moving platforms and ramps to reach gems or your goal. While it sounds like you need to waste a lot of time on a single track, it’s actually not that hard to get a few stars. It’s possible to get all three stars after a few tries. Also, you don’t need to beat every track perfectly; a single star is enough to unlock the next track. The only roadblock is the overall number of stars required to unlock the next tier, but that should not be a problem. When you complete all stages in a world, you unlock a challenge run. This is the hardest obstacle from earning all achievements because you need to beat all ten stages in one single run and beat the clock. It requires almost perfect runs because a single mistake is very costly. Overall, this is a surprisingly fun game that needs attention. Even through it places a lot of effort into speedrunning, casual gamers will find it very accessible.
Easy to learn - hard to master. It's relatively easy to get a Gold Rating in each level. However, the S rating can be tricky sometimes. It forces you to find shortcuts and (ab-)use the different time mechanics in the game to get the best time. A well crafted art-style and fitting music completes the picture. Performance is also great.
Absolutely marblelous !
I really like this game! I haven't really played many marble/super monkey ball games but I have a long history with DeFRaG and speedrunning in quake games and that scratches that exact same itch. Really nice to grind a level over and over and perfect the run just a little bit more. Lovely level design and style and has a fun bizarre story too. Perfect to play for an hour or two before bed, and very satisfying when you shave a second or two of that time.
