About
Making it Home is a vehicle building game. In the story mode you're a ladybug, with family issues, on a journey home. Put your engineering and creativity skills to the test as you combine simple elements into a complex contraption. Once you’ve built it, jump around your vehicle to keep it moving and defend it from an onslaught of cherry bombs, autonomous drones and carrots - or just relax and build your dream machine in the cozy mode!
Design and engineer your vehicle. What you build, and where, matters. Discover new components and your favourite combinations the more you play.
Take part in the daily, weekly and monthly design challenges with a limited set of components, or let your creativity run wild in the sandbox mode!
In the Story mode pick your route across the USA, getting to know quirky animal friends (and foes) along the way. Explore the interactive narrative while the classic country sound track keeps you in the mood for a road trip. The entire story mode is playable in Cozy mode without hazards or enemies, for when you just feel like chilling out on the drive home.
Rethink all your vehicle designs and play the entire campaign co-op with up to 3 friends locally or on-line with Steam Remote Play Together.
Share your vehicle designs and discover new ways to play with full Steam Workshop support.
Controllers are fully supported for the platforming elements but a keyboard and mouse is required to design your vehicle.

Really innovative and clever game - not played anything quite like it! Great job Pill Bug. I would recommend to anyone whose looking for something different or they're into platforming or management games - or indeed BOTH! Can't wait to explore more!
I'v played a total of 24.3 hours in 2 days, this game is addictive. I haven't even tried half of the contraption and mechanics, this is just fun is all I gotta say.
This game introduced me to a feeling I haven't felt in a long time. it developed the feeling using very fun but very difficult campaign. It introduced the impossible task of making it home on time and no matter what strategy you choose it always manged to put me even more behind schedule. however unlike most games It did not require you to repeat any levels and instead gave you the chance to retry if you think you could have done better. This along with the cute graphics and the interesting and new strategy aspect game this game is highly recommended if you have a few hours to kill on a fun adventure.
What a fun game, its very cozy and will definitely play more. This game is definitely a game to play when youre bored, itll fix your day right up and get you going again.
I can't get enough! I love how you can get really creative with building a vehicle, you can try all sorts or layouts and combinations. The story and dialogue is really immersive too, I'm definitely hooked. 5* would buy again! You guys are awesome
This game has potential, a mix of platforming, base/car building and what seems to be rogue-like elements. I will be keeping my eye on this one.
A fun vehicle building game with a fair amount of difficulty (although I might just suck at engineering and design) that's worth a look if you're interested in games like that.
Honestly one of the best games ive played in a while, really fun so far
Making it Home, developed and published by Pill Bug Interactive, is a charming and inventive indie adventure that blends physics-driven construction, hands-on platforming, and a gentle narrative into a cohesive and emotionally grounded experience. At its heart, the game is about creativity and perseverance: you play as a determined little ladybug trying to make it back home for an important family moment, and the journey becomes a whimsical road trip defined as much by problem-solving as by personality. Rather than leaning on traditional level-based progression, the game encourages experimentation, failure, and improvisation, turning every obstacle into an opportunity to rethink how you build and move through the world. The centerpiece of Making it Home is its flexible vehicle-building system, which allows players to assemble custom contraptions from a wide range of parts such as wheels, sails, fans, balloons, engines, and assorted structural components. These parts interact through a lively physics system, meaning even small changes in placement or balance can dramatically alter how a vehicle behaves. Vehicles can roll, fly, float, or wobble their way forward, often in delightfully unpredictable ways. The satisfaction comes not from building a single perfect machine, but from iterating constantly—testing ideas, watching them fail spectacularly, and refining designs until something functional emerges. This makes the construction feel less like rigid engineering and more like playful experimentation, rewarding curiosity and patience over precision alone. Once a vehicle is built, the game shifts into an active traversal phase where the ladybug protagonist must physically interact with the contraption. You may need to jump between components, activate mechanisms at the right time, or react quickly to environmental hazards that threaten to slow you down or tear your machine apart. This blend of building and moment-to-moment action gives the game a dynamic rhythm, ensuring that success depends not only on clever design but also on player awareness and timing. Obstacles such as rough terrain, hostile gadgets, and airborne threats keep each journey engaging, pushing players to think on their feet and adapt mid-run when plans inevitably go awry. The narrative framework gives Making it Home a warmth that elevates it beyond a pure sandbox. As you travel across a stylized version of the United States, you encounter a cast of quirky animal characters who offer help, conversation, or small story moments that flesh out the world. These interactions are lighthearted and often humorous, but they also reinforce the emotional motivation driving the journey. The story never overwhelms the gameplay, yet it provides a sense of purpose that makes each successful mile feel meaningful. The road-trip structure also gives the adventure a pleasant sense of scale, turning progress into a series of memorable stops rather than abstract checkpoints. For players who prefer creativity without pressure, the game includes a cozy mode that removes hostile elements and time constraints. In this mode, Making it Home becomes a relaxed construction playground where the focus is entirely on building elaborate machines and enjoying the scenery. This option broadens the game’s appeal significantly, making it accessible to players who might otherwise find the physics challenges stressful. On top of that, support for sharing designs allows players to explore contraptions made by others, sparking new ideas and extending the game’s lifespan well beyond the story mode. Cooperative play further enhances this, turning construction into a collaborative and often hilarious experience when friends brainstorm and troubleshoot together. Visually, the game adopts a hand-drawn, storybook-inspired aesthetic that complements its gentle tone. Environments feel expressive rather than detailed, emphasizing mood and charm over realism. The ladybug protagonist and supporting characters are animated with personality, reinforcing the game’s playful spirit. The soundtrack leans toward mellow, road-trip-inspired music that fits the sense of long-distance travel and personal journey, subtly reinforcing the feeling that this is as much about the experience as the destination. While Making it Home does show some rough edges—such as occasional camera quirks, a learning curve for mastering the physics, and moments where chaos can feel overwhelming—these imperfections are closely tied to its ambition and openness. The game asks players to embrace experimentation and accept that failure is part of the process, which may not appeal to everyone. However, for those willing to engage with its systems on their own terms, these rough edges become part of the charm rather than a deterrent. Ultimately, Making it Home stands out as a heartfelt and imaginative indie game that successfully blends creative construction with a personal, story-driven journey. Its strength lies in how it empowers players to solve problems in their own way, whether through clever engineering, quick thinking, or sheer persistence. By combining physics-based building, active gameplay, and a warm narrative core, it offers an experience that feels both playful and sincere. For players who enjoy sandbox creativity with emotional grounding and a strong sense of personality, Making it Home delivers a memorable and genuinely endearing adventure. Rating: 6/10
