MTG is great but Arena is bad For new people getting into Magic, just play in real life. This game isn’t friendly to new players. The tutorials are nice and it’s a good way to learn the game and learn your cards. But after a certain point, it’s essentially unplayable. Whenever I play ranked matches, I either get no mana or all mana and no cards until I mulligan down to 6 or 5 cards. Also you’re always put against overly expensive decks where not only do you lose all the time, you don’t even get to play. Everyone’s first hand has unlimited counter spells. If you build your deck around it, there’s always new cards that will stop you from casting spells. In real life there’s always a card that is gonna be better, but the fun of the game to strategize and build a better deck. But you can’t do that in this game, even if you spend money the games are just based on luck and by “luck” I mean the algorithm handicaps one of the players into oblivion. I don’t want to call it a scam but it’s sketchy to say the least. I got into MTG about 3 months ago and I love it, but MTG arena is killing my joy for the game. I’m deleting and I hope new players stay away.
MTG Arena - Wonderful Game, app needs some refinement I love magic and love how accessible and visually rich Arena makes it - with that said I will upgrade this review when the iOS Arena team actually works on the App switching causing crashes requiring restarts and the “Asset Error Detected” bug on almost every run of the app - with the timer in its current form this causes consistent game lag and turn skipping which is unacceptable at best and tolerable at worst, especially for daily grinding and ranked gameplay. Visually 8/10 - Audio and access are great - Barrier to play is low with a little grinding - but the boot, lag, and getting signed out of live matches (even after full reinstalls) issues need serious attention. - Gameplay 5 stars, A/V 4.5 Stars, Convenience 5 Stars, UX/Collection Management/Quality of Life 2 stars - Overall I want to give Arena a 4/5 or 5/5 but the ongoing problems with crashing and restarting and app switching errors limit it to a maximum of 3.

Lands issue Rare ever get a decent game. Most players I see concede within the first few turns. You might get lucky and get at least two lands rarer three lands hands. Mostly find one land hands. Then when playing you’re either stuck drawing now lands but the ones you had in hand. Or just get mana flooded with lands like I just did for 9 turns straight.
“Hand smoothing algorithm” sucks You can put 50 lands in a deck and still some how pull one land hands their matchmaking is entirely unfair and always made for a one sided match don’t matter how good your opening hand is your opponent has a better one can we get real COMMANDER brawl sucks
Abysmal approximation of a good card game This is the low effort version of MTG that can play on IOS. The best of 1 format, starting hand “smoother” feature you can expect to mulligan MANY more times than you would in real life OR on MTG online. It’s fine to play for free, but don’t let them sucker you into trading real currency for “gems”
Too pay heavy It costs to play the card game as much as yu gi oh duel links for a game that could sell just cosmetics
Bad algorithm The mana algorithm is broken. Unfair and jaded.
Best card game ever Definitely not a pay to win and you can have tons of fun’s free of charge.
This game is rigged I swear to god it is you could have 10 lands out of 100 cards and if you run out of those 7 cards in your hand your only pulling those lands
