Experienced on the Oculus Quest 2
You can view my review & gameplay here: https://youtu.be/rpcvcPNA0K4 This is a neutral recommendation. First of all, this game's UI is in Chinese. So I was just flying blind to get the game going and continuing from my save. Luckily, I picked the right selections. Second of all, I experienced several bugs, the biggest one of which was the level not loading properly and either seeing complete darkness or several missing items. I found out you just have to quit the game and restart the level. Lastly, the game is way overpriced for what it is. It took me 80 minutes to complete the game (dealing with bugs) and the production values don't match the normal retail price. On the other hand, there are some positives. This is a horror walking simulator. The game has a nice atmosphere, good jump scares, and casual level puzzles. Some may find the puzzles too easy, but they are perfect for casual puzzle fans or walking simulator fans. I think the VOs were nicely done, but they are in a foreign language (there are English sub-titles though). I think maybe some of the translations were a bit off though. Game is running on the Unity Engine. On my RTX 3080, I was getting steady 90 fps. You do have full locomotion and snap turning. There may be other options available, but again, I can't read Chinese. The VR interactions are mostly point and click. Items you grab automatically go into your inventory and you push a button to open your inventory and then laser select your item to use. Overall, I would advise waiting on a sale (game's currently as is is maybe worth $10 USD). It's a nice horror walking simulator if you can look past all the current issues.
While ‘Lost in Abyss’ is mostly in Japanese it is still a pretty good horror adventure with some nice sets and a few good scary animations. While I didn’t get the storyline at all nor are there any real clues on what to do I did manage to get through it in the end. While mostly dark all the time (like every other horror game) what you can see looks OK, especially the creepy pin dolls hanging around everywhere. While it is a little short on content horror fans will love it. there are a few puzzles to solve, some jump scares and a few other surprises. Pricy yes, but worth a go if you can grab it in a sale.
Just a bad game overall. Overselled trailers that have even parts of the game, that are not in the game, actually. Feels like a Unity game, that last moment was switched to be a VR game, cause of a lot of elements of Vr seem rushed (clips in textures, interactivity, buggy menus, walk blocking, instances that will never work for VR) 86m of gameplay that was full bad. I don't care about graphics in games, but for people that care: All the screenshots and videos on the store page are prerendered. Without VR, just another trashy Unity horror.
DOA is not A OK !
🔥►Meet people TESTING now (in group CHAT) 👎►WE CAN'T GET IT TO WORK in VR & no dev reply in steam discussion 🏆►VR Giveaways 🏆 https://steamcommunity.com/groups/JoinUsInVR For me and many others this game has nothing but a black screen and no menu. All black. nothing you do will load the menu or start the game. See discussion comments for details.
First VR game ever played. Great experience overall. The story is well-written. you can pretty much understand the storyline as you go through the game. TBH, I was kinda astounded when I reached the story ending. You should see for yourself. One thing I'd point out is just about all assets on the table are grabbable. Unlike other PC games, it is a different feeling when you holding something in front of your VR lens. They are big and detailed. BTW, they got a sexy lady sitting on an electric chair :)
