The quality of the english translation is so simplistic and a lot of the times grammatically incorrect, that I wasn't even able to get past the second day. It makes the protagonist seem mentally underdeveloped which is just not something you want in an explicit story. A shame, since the art seems pretty great.
Like an Angel

5-10 hours to complete. Like an Angel is an LGBTQ+ VN with eight different endings, you play as a male succubus undergoing his coming-of-age trial: Survive one whole year in the human world, attend college, blend in, avoid attachments, and don’t catch the strange withering disease that takes the lives of many young demons every trial. Finally, return to the demon realm as a fully-fledged adult. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3560420288 Reviewing this game is kinda tricky, because while I genuinely enjoyed a lot of aspects such as the beautiful art style, a little bit of the time management aspects, the fact this game is completely uncensored, and the wholesome but lewd good endings; with only one being bittersweet – there are way too many glaring issues for me just to hand out a positive review. There is a LOT of non-con in the beginning, the storyline is kinda weak, the English translation is super rough; it’s plagued by spelling errors, confusing sentences, and awkward phrasings. It gets worse, though, because there IS full voice acting, but it’s only available if you’re reading in Chinese, even though, looking at discussion pages, it used to be available but oddly stopped working around the time the developers stopped updating. Also, all the DLC is Chinese only and doesn’t have an “English not supported” tag – If you still wanna read it, get the Google Translate app on your phone; it does a good job. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3560420365 For me, I especially had a difficult time with this game as reaching the in-game requirements to reach any good ending is unnecessarily difficult due to said translation errors and high condition clearance. Following the English guide alone makes it impossible to get a good ending, as vital requirements are outright not stated; I had to translate the Chinese guide into English and then hunt down a spreadsheet across two websites, and then translate THAT spreadsheet to fully understand the requirements to get a good ending. Overall, while I honestly really liked Like an Angel, I absolutely cannot recommend it to anyone who’s not already a depraved BL lover, and doesn’t mind wading through a frustrating experience to get to the good parts. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3560420223
If you liked this review and want to read about similar games or just support me on my journey of playing my entire Steam backlog, you can join my curator group, Rune's Reviews! Have a nice day! The artwork is gorgeous and the concept of the game is really nice, but the English translation is so bad that it's actually difficult to follow the story without really dissecting every line. As one of the others mention, fairly early on in the game there is a R*** scene that's just out of the blue, and unrealistic in how the MC reacts to it. Request for the developers: It would be really nice to still have the audio voice acting in Chinese even when the text is set to English. Having a game go fully quiet (besides music) is not very immersive :(
(BEFORE WE BEGIN... FOR CRYING OUT LOUD... IT'S "INSIDES" NOT "INTESTINES". Unless you were doing "vine sex" and was actually GOING FOR THAT AREA... You meant INSIDES! "ESTRUS"... Is for FEMALE... MAMMALS... NOT HUMANS... ESPECIALLY NOT MEN!!! And......... A MALE "DEMON" IS AN "INCUBUS"... Succubus is a female version of them. But okay, the third one might be something that THEY came up with themselves...) Game. Yes. Artwork? Amazing. Kudos. So smooth and shiny... But the problem lies with the translation... UGH... I actually think this story COULD be great... If things weren't the way the were and really... I was laughing half the time... Unintentionally... Granted I needed the laugh, but I don't think they intended it to be this way... What's the other thing that bothers people here? Oh yeah, r*pe scenes. Yeah. Doesn't bother me. I wont go into much detail as to why, but I will address that THERE ARE indeed scenes like that. One of them pretty early on. What DOES bother me... Is that MUFAN IS an INCUBUS... Sorry, "Succubus" (still can't get used to that)... So they are ALL ABOUT LUST and ESSENCE... So when he gets some... Why does he act like "oh sheet, I didn't want it"? This is the first time I actually saw a sex demon that was against lewd acts... Which he didn't initiate... Did you guys study up on sex demons? Their morality is far different... Okay. THEN, Mufan uses his power on other guys so that they do it with him... That's okay by him... Because he made them do it... But when they do it... Oh you get it. This however... Is good if you just want to see some sex happen. Wait, did I say "see"? Oh yes "see and laugh"... Oh my goodness... The words used... Ahahah! So then... You keep reading... Playing the Stat Raising game (Don't worry, you'll get the hang of it pretty fast)... And you start to realize that you are getting adjusted to the game. You can actually UNDERSTAND what is going on better and start to experiment to see what else you can find. Then you check out events and endings... And eventually... The game comes to an end. Routes (I have trouble with their names so...): - Guy in glasses: I have only one word for him:
psychopath.
Unless you are on his route... Then it turns into a sad story. But how come he is the only one who NEVER takes his clothes off? Does he really like staining them THAT much? :s - College Guy: I personally HATE THIS ROUTE. Not because of the character... But because of what happens in it. The good ending feels terrible too. I guess I've never experienced anything like this... So I can't relate! Just one question... Didn't the College guy say that
"he will accept him no matter what"?
HELLO?! - Red Head: If he wasn't into men and was real... I'd do him. Hot and I liked this route the best. I'd even watch him chain up Mufan as he said... Sigh... ShenHuan... OH! I remembered his name. Hah. So playing with this game "carefully" as the warning said, (I didn't) I came to the conclusion that fun was had. Except for things mentioned above and the over use of the word "intestines"... Let's do it this way: You here for BL stuff? Cute stuff? Romance stuff? (Not so much romance though... The game isn't that well translated to get those feelings across...) Lewd acts between guys? Aggression involved? This game might be it. Look around. You'll see what you are getting into. I liked it. Had several great laughs and yeah, enjoyed. Mwahahah. Thank youuuuuuu!!! >:3 :) =) (Can we please tell the one with Glasses to remove his clothing? Also, can Shen turn around while nude? Beautiful. Thank you.)
I have been in a slump to find good BL/Yaoi/Bara lately and thought this would be the one to change that. However, as many other reviewers have stated, there are several issues that make this game a DNF for me at this time. Aside from the overused and common r*pe trope within this genre that needs to be dropped from these games, the English translation had me skipping through most of the dialogue just to get through the route quicker. I used skip a lot for a first play-through which I never do since I'm a writer myself and enjoy diving into a great story in all its entirety. I did not get the chance with this game as I found myself trying to simply understand what was going on half the time. Pros: - Beautiful art/characters - Great concept - Decent Good Ending for the route I actually finished - Bookstore job that played double duty for study points Cons: - R-scenes - Unlikable MC and dating options - Constant Demon Virus when above 70 immortality points despite buying multiple expensive cures - No explanation on how to attend required events, go to the shop, call "love" interests, or other necessary game mechanics for good endings - Price for the content offered I sincerely hope this project will receive updates in the future that make this game playable for English speakers. I would like to give this project another try for all its good despite the bad. I can tell a lot of heart went into it but unfortunately cannot recommend it at this time.
In my POV, this game is good at both art and story. Unfortunately, all DLCs are Chinese and I can't understand it. Hope for English update soon.
It's... OK. * Art - beautiful; the sprites look very good, CGs as well; backgrounds are ok * Story - kinda bad, all 3 romance options are kinda horrible people; possessive, aggressive, downright hurt other people on some paths, abusive etc; supposedly it's not a big deal because your MC is a demon succubus, but they're all walking major red flags. * Transaltion - bad; you can understand what they're saying but that's about it; kinda looks google translated * Gameplay - repetitive, slow and kinda pointless; there's some activities and some stats but only one affects choices, everything else is mostly for achis; and that one that affects choices is really badly done - you need 70 immoral into the path of the nicest guy to get his good ending, which makes NO sense considering any sane and not immoral person would have acted in that situation. And it also doesn't make sense to throw that out there as if you could've seen this requirement coming. Seeing all the above, why am I still recommending it? I don't know, it's kinda fun. Fun enough to finish several times.
the english translation is not good. i could not get into it because of that. if you can read the original langauge im sure the game is better and way easier to get into. but for those who only speak english like me (sadly T-T) then id recommend either not getting it (at least not now unless a better translation comes out) or picking up the language; easier said than done. its dissapointing cuz the guys look cute af. maybe one day a better translation will come out.
