<-- Review written for 3 Point Play -->
Lifesigns is a pretty unsettling visual novel that I somehow can't seem to pinpoint the meaning of. Truth be told, we were given a review copy, and pretty much like with all games we review, we installed it, checked it out, etc. Curator stuff. It seems, however, that in order to fully understand this one, we should have played the previous two games in this series. Well, we haven't really played them hehe, so we pretty much went in, blind. Anyway, let's drop the curator shenanigans and go back to the review. As I mentioned before, it's an unsettling VN, that's how I'd describe it. From the get-go, you are prompted to answer some questions on a tablet, questions that try to determine what kind of person you are, as you're apparently going to be hired by some sort of corporation. In between answering those questions, the protagonists seems to find enjoyment in scratching her private parts; perhaps she was feeling itchy? She ends up even inserting a whole fist in there, so maybe it was something really serious, I think she should really go visit a doctor. Everything is pretty blurry from there on forward, the protagonist chats around with a friend group she has, in which they exchange some really cryptic messages, and we swap our viewpoint from the character we were following until then, to another girl that seems to be moving to some rundown appartment. After that, we go back to some questions again, and then back to the protagonist we had at the beginning, and she meets another girl, and there's a really long, really sexual segment in some sort of sewer. Then, my playthrough was cut short by a ren.py exception, and I couldn't open the game once again even after validating the files. With that said, however, I felt like I'd had enough, it's not really my kind of story. For starters, it is really sexual, and I don't mean it like those fairly "innocent" hentai games that everyone knows and loves, that even if they portray some sort of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up sexual conducts, they don't really go too far after: There's no deeper meaning, there's no artistic representation of the artist's thoughts and aspirations, you know what I mean. It's just "meat going inside of meat" and that's all there's to it, some novelty wank material. This story, however, is sexual in the opposite sense, and when it gets like that, I kinda lose interest: Sex, and music are two things I'm not interested as, when they're used as story premises. That's me, however; that's my opinion. If you feel like you agree with me when it comes to those topics, well, this is not for you. If, on the other hand, you enjoy that kind of stuff, then you're more than welcome to buy this game, but even then I'd recommend you play the other two games before playing this one, as I've noticed, that at least in the previous game in the series, a character from this game appears. Going back to the curator stuff, I believe we're mostly bound to be "objective" when it comes to reviewing games. So, I'll tag this one review as a positive one. My subjective opinion about this game is not really favorable, but I reckon it would be a blast for someone who would be interested in these topics, as displayed in this same store page and review, and/or someone that might use "artsy" as one of the words to describe themself.
After 31 minuutes, I just can't go on. In my opinion the game and story is slow and boring. Plus, I hate all the text messages on the phone. I have to use text and phones too much in real life and don't want to read text on a graphic phone when I am trying to relax and just play a game or read a graphic novel.
A short visual novel with mature and deep story. It’s hard to place this VN. First and foremost, it is part of a trilogy. Knowledge of other titles is not required because they may be played independently, however some elements may be lost if you just play one game. Second, the plot alternates between several characters. Because there is so much going on without providing much context for the characters or place, it might be difficult to follow. It covers issues that necessitate attentive reading. Only a few decisions must be made to change the course to one of the several possible outcomes. It’s not a lot, but the game isn’t that long either. Sadly, parts of the story have been placed in a seperate DLC. The phone mechanic isn’t very useful. It allows you to read text messages from various contacts and listen to music. However, despite the addition of a camera, it cannot be used to take images. Furthermore, the phone is only available in certain scenes. Lastly, there are some explicit nude scenes and text. Although it’s all part of the story, some might be surprised by their inclusion.
