Lies of P

The second best soulslike of all time, only bested by nioh 2 and it's stupid amount of content, but the 50ish hour adventure you get with the full package of this game is almost perfect. The obvious standout of this game is the combat, and more-so the bosses that result in it, while the game does put an emphasis on using dodges and parries, it's very clear that the parry side of things is where it shines, and the bosses that really challenge those parries while still encouraging them, especially the likes of [spoiler]Romeo, Twin-faced overseer, Markiona, and especially Arlecchino[/spoiler] are almost perfect with how the attacks are challenging but never feel out of sight to counter, This game does slightly falter where I feel most soulslikes do, that being in the areas, and while they are fun to open up when you're going through them, the enemies and their placements can really bring them down, areas like the chapel, grand exhibition, and the underground facility in the dlc really fail when it comes to being fun to traverse, but the set pieces and designs in most areas do make up for the lackluster enemies. This game's story is great, while not the best of all time, it does stand out for how it central it is compared to most of its kind, the central twist, while obvious does make for an entertaining antagonist at its climax. The world it takes place in, tows a good line of being a pinicchio story but still coming into its own with things like carcasses, petrification, while also taking characters from other works like frankenstein really helps it stand apart from the worlds of other souls games.

This game + the DLC amount to what is in my opinion the best soulslike game you can get your hands on. Great combat, stunning atmosphere, pretty good story. Cannot wait for the follow-up.

Un excellent Souls-like malgré quelques défauts. Lies of P est une très belle surprise et un excellent représentant du genre. La direction artistique est magnifique, l'univers est original, les musiques sont excellentes et l'optimisation est irréprochable. Les combats de boss sont globalement très réussis et la durée de vie est bien équilibrée. L'exploration est agréable et la progression donne constamment envie d'aller plus loin. Mon principal reproche concerne le système de combat. Le jeu pousse énormément à utiliser la parade parfaite, au point de parfois laisser l'esquive au second plan. J'aurais aimé davantage de liberté dans les approches, ce qui aurait rendu les affrontements moins répétitifs à mes yeux. Malgré cette réserve, Lies of P reste un jeu de grande qualité que je recommande sans hésiter à tous les amateurs de Souls-like. Une excellente expérience qui mérite largement sa réputation.
