Fun Bowling game in VR that feels more arcade like then real. Which is not what I was expecting but the challenges and unlock-able rooms are fun goals to work towards. The game is in EA and not all features are in yet, but the developers seem to be regularly updating the game and multiplayer, more rooms and a store is coming. The $18 price tag is bit much without all the features implemented, but if they get them all in, I think it is worth it. Even in it's current state I'd say $10 is a good price point if you can get it on sale or in a bundle. Here is some game play video I made. Very nice game. Good graphic, a lot of content, easy to use game mechanics. it's nice to spend some time after working in such game. If possible, please add somehow feelIng of the ball in your hand.
This is a review copy from the devs. Good graphics. Has a campaign like mode. Lots of lanes to unlock. Has graphics and sound settings but no sharpening or AA adjustments. There was some blur and screendoor effects. But my main gripe I have at this time is the throwing of the ball. For me it just didn't feel intuative or maybe just doesn't work right for my taste. It seems you have to throw the bowling ball extremely hard to make it go down the lane "properly" rather than just doing it the way you would in real bowling. Since this is early access I will rate it a thumbs up for now on sale. It is worth supporting and is off to a good start. I'll check back as updates come. My rating is a 5/10 though for those woes.
Overall I recommend this game however, they need to add free movement (forward, backward, turn) or at least a centering button as this is what keeps me from playing this game more often. It's way too hard to turn using the current system of "teleport movement". If there was a rating scale I would rate this 4 out of 10 but just with better movement, it would be 9 out of 10. That's how dramatic the lack of movement is. If I am mistaken and there is something I can do in settings, please tell me as the lack of ability to move or center really makes this otherwise awesome game hard to play. I saw this game on a YouTube review and was pissed that it wasn't available for the only VR headset I had, PSVR. Naturally when I bought a HTC Vive headset this was one of the first games I bought. I loved the idea of bowling in my own home and was able to get a few strikes, however, I was sad to see that the game was so underdeveloped and with so many bugs but I understood as it was in EARLY ACCESS. I kind of gave up on it as I saw that it wasn't updated in a while but still had a lot of fun unlocking the many bowling alleys the game had to offer. I left it realizing that this game had a lot of potential. To my surprise, one day I got a notification that the game was updated and I was pleasantly surprised to see that they fixed a lot of issues this game had and added a bunch of stuff. I also had upgraded to an Oculus Rift S so that may have also helped as the room tracking limited where I could play. They made a lot of improvements and I hope they continue to fix some of the little things that hold this game back. Glows: -Awesome graphics and lighting, really feel like you are in a bowling alley -Variety of bowling alleys helps you settle into finding the one that gives you the best feel -Pretty good physical controls. I'm a casual bowler so I don't do spins and all that stuff but it's rewarding to get a strike or hit spare Grows: -Movement makes this near unplayable. Movement is so important in VR. I would suggest to at least add a button to center the screen, if there is one, please tell me as it is frustrating having to get the clunky controls to face forward. I spend more time trying to face forward than actually bowling. Free movement with the ability to move forward, backward and turn would be ideal but at least give us a centering button. -That damn Ipad in the hand is annoying and kills immersion. I never even use it, not really sure why it's there, I'm guessing to watch replays.... hint, there are no replays in real life bowling so it is unnecessary. Hey Devs, if you must have it, then at least let us put it down.
The game itself looks very good. It's still not perfect, but I see great potential. Especially with multiplayer (when it will be released) and some polishing afterwards. But even now during Early Access this game worth its money. More details: * Graphics part is excelent! I unlocked most of the alleys and they are amazing. Every club is absolutely different. This is really cool for VR arcade game. Most of the other VR arcades have just one or at least a few locations. This game has a lot! * Physics - can't say anything bad about this part too. I really like how it feels. Seems very natural. I tried to throw a hook several times and it works. But seems like all the balls have the same weight atm and it's not clear what weight it is. Please add weight number signs and make different weights. I wanna feel the difference. * Career mode - please add leaderboards or just stats page. I want to see my score and rewards somewhere to check my progress. * Challenges mode - I still can't finish career to play this mode in alpha access, but can't wait to play it when it will be ready! That gifs from anouncements look awesome! * Settings - please increase max allowed resolution scale. 150 is not enough. 200 would be ok! Devs, I hope to see new updates soon! Keep rolling!
I playing this game using my VIVE set.. and after couple of hours i can say, that this game is damn good. Good physics, smooth and pretty graphics. Nice VR experience.
Nope. Had potential. Great graphics, plenty of options, but the dev is moving slowly and the physics and lack of multiplayer ruin this game. I used to bowl (near pro level tournaments) and can't stand the fact that I can throw the ball down the lane overhand and get better results than actually trying. There's a better option now. I will update this if things change.
Who the ♥♥♥♥ bowls while holding a tablet. Please add locomotions for christ sake.
I bought this game just recently, after Patch 004 release, with a discount on Halloween sale. And I'm not disappointed at all! These levels are very cool! It really gives me immersion. I'm happy with physics. It feels great. I can't say that it's 100% like in the real world, but all 80% for sure. I can't call myself a good bowling player in real life and it's hard for me to launch the ball along the curve. But in this game, it's much easier for me! It really makes me fun! One thing I would like to request is to add AI or multiplayer, so you could play with somebody to have more fun!
It took me 15 minutes to give up on this game and request a refund. I have bowled most of my adult life, I've been on leagues, and I'm a pretty good bowler. I am right handed and have a very pronounced hook. I've played xbox kinect bowling games and wii bowling games, both arcade style and realistic. I can reproduce for the most part) my irl hook in ALL of those games. In this game every ball I released had spin to it - IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION! Every ball, including ones I tried to just throw straight, spun off into the right gutter. An overhand throw of the ball finally resulted in connecting with the pins! The ONLY way I could see myself giving this game another chance is if, after release, this game gets glowing reviews from thousands of purchasers. EDIT: After talking with the devs, and them investigating my issue until they could reproduce it, the culprit is my play space and not their game! I have a table I use as my computer desk between my play space and the tv/sensor area. The table blocks the sensor's view of my hand as I bring it down and forward, so the game releases the ball in the last direction it clearly saw my hand even though my hand reappears before release. These developers were very kind and helpful to someone who left a very negative review. I trust them to make this a kick-ass bowling sim and will be re-purrchasing the game.
