Jogo Booom
Let Me Out, developed by 4Happy Studio and published by 4Happy Studio alongside PID Games and Dear Villagers, is a narrative-driven horror adventure that blends exploration, puzzle-solving, and supernatural storytelling within a setting deeply inspired by Indonesian folklore. Rather than relying solely on traditional horror mechanics such as combat or constant jump scares, the game focuses on atmosphere, mystery, and cultural mythology to create a haunting experience. Players take control of Alvin, a young boy with unusual spiritual sensitivity who awakens to discover that his once peaceful village has been overtaken by strange supernatural forces. As he searches for his missing mother and attempts to understand what has happened to the villagers, Alvin becomes entangled in a larger mystery involving curses, ancient spirits, and forgotten rituals. The story unfolds in Mata Koetjhing, a fictional Javanese village set during the 1960s. The choice of this time period gives the game a distinctive historical atmosphere, combining rural architecture, traditional culture, and spiritual beliefs with the unsettling sense that something deeply wrong has taken hold of the area. When Alvin begins exploring the village, he quickly discovers that most of the residents have vanished and that the environment has become inhabited by supernatural entities drawn from Indonesian mythology. As players progress through the game, they uncover fragments of the village’s past through abandoned homes, documents, environmental clues, and conversations with lingering spirits. These discoveries slowly reveal how an ancient curse has transformed the once quiet community into a dangerous supernatural landscape. Gameplay centers around exploration and puzzle-solving, with players guiding Alvin through different areas of the village such as abandoned houses, dark forests, temples, and hidden pathways. Each location presents environmental puzzles that must be solved in order to advance the story. Many of these challenges involve locating specific objects, interpreting clues hidden in the environment, or interacting with ancient mechanisms connected to the village’s spiritual traditions. The puzzles encourage players to pay close attention to details in the environment, rewarding curiosity and careful observation. Although Let Me Out contains elements of survival horror, the emphasis is more on tension and atmosphere than direct combat. Supernatural creatures appear throughout the village, forcing Alvin to avoid danger or find creative ways to deal with hostile spirits. These encounters create moments of suspense as players navigate dimly lit environments while listening for subtle audio cues that signal the presence of nearby threats. The game rarely overwhelms the player with action, instead maintaining a slow pace that allows the atmosphere to build gradually. One of the most distinctive gameplay elements involves Alvin’s companions, who play important roles in both the narrative and puzzle-solving mechanics. The spirit of Alvin’s younger sister, Jane, accompanies him throughout his journey. Although she exists as a ghostly presence, she can occasionally assist Alvin by offering guidance or providing hints when puzzles become difficult. Her presence also adds emotional depth to the story, as Alvin’s memories of his sister and the tragedy surrounding her death influence the themes of family and loss that run throughout the narrative. Another companion is Alvin’s pet spider, Poko, which introduces a unique gameplay mechanic. At certain points in the story, players gain the ability to control Poko directly, allowing the spider to crawl into narrow passages or hidden spaces that Alvin cannot reach. These segments require players to approach puzzles from a different perspective, using Poko’s mobility to activate switches or retrieve objects. This mechanic adds variety to the gameplay while reinforcing the idea that Alvin cannot survive the village’s dangers alone. Crafting also plays a role in the game’s progression. Throughout the village, Alvin can collect various ingredients that are later combined to create potions and spiritual remedies. Using instructions found in his journal, players can craft items that help repel demons, cleanse cursed objects, or unlock certain areas of the environment. This system adds a layer of preparation and resource management, encouraging players to search carefully for materials before confronting supernatural threats. Visually, Let Me Out presents a moody interpretation of rural Indonesia that captures both beauty and unease. Traditional wooden houses, overgrown pathways, and ancient shrines are illuminated by lantern light and moonlit skies, creating environments that feel both authentic and unsettling. Dense forests and fog-filled landscapes reinforce the sense of isolation, while subtle visual details hint at the supernatural forces affecting the village. Although the game does not feature the graphical complexity of large-budget horror titles, its art direction successfully establishes a unique atmosphere that reflects its cultural inspiration. Sound design is equally important in building the game’s tension. Much of the experience is accompanied by natural ambient sounds such as rustling leaves, distant animal calls, and the faint echo of footsteps in empty spaces. These subtle audio cues heighten the sense of vulnerability during exploration. When supernatural entities appear, the soundscape becomes more intense, with eerie music and unsettling noises signaling danger. This careful use of audio helps maintain suspense without relying excessively on sudden jump scares. One of the game’s most notable strengths is its use of Indonesian folklore and mythology as the foundation for its horror elements. Many of the supernatural creatures encountered throughout the story are inspired by traditional legends and spiritual beliefs from the region. This approach gives the game a distinctive identity that separates it from more conventional horror titles. Instead of familiar Western horror tropes, players encounter spirits and myths that reflect a different cultural tradition, making the experience feel both fresh and intriguing. Despite its strengths, Let Me Out does have a few shortcomings. Some puzzles can be difficult to interpret due to limited guidance, occasionally leaving players unsure of where to go or what object they need to interact with next. This can lead to moments of wandering that slow the pace of the story. Additionally, certain enemy encounters follow predictable patterns, which can reduce the sense of danger once players learn how to avoid or deal with them. The pacing of the game can also feel uneven at times. Early sections focus heavily on exploration and puzzle-solving with relatively little threat, while later portions introduce more frequent supernatural encounters. This shift may feel abrupt for some players, though it also reflects the escalating danger as Alvin uncovers the truth behind the village’s curse. Even with these minor issues, Let Me Out stands out as an engaging indie horror adventure that combines puzzle mechanics with rich cultural storytelling. Its focus on atmosphere, mythology, and narrative exploration gives the game a unique identity within the horror genre. Rather than relying purely on scares, it builds tension through mystery and emotional storytelling, allowing players to experience a supernatural tale rooted in tradition and folklore. Overall, Let Me Out is a memorable narrative-driven horror experience that successfully blends exploration, puzzles, and cultural mythology into a compelling adventure. While certain design elements could benefit from greater polish, the game’s intriguing setting and emotional narrative make it a worthwhile experience for players who enjoy story-focused horror games. Sim o jogo e curto e bem divertido, mas as conquistas são um pouco frustantes
I don't know if I need a new mouse or what, but the stiring parts are so annoying that it really destroys what little the game had going for it, which was not much. I would very strongly suggest not buying it. Story is not great, Constant little glitches that just add to the annoyance of the game and the stirring parts (you think there is just one and are very thankful it is done, but nope there is another) I am sure at some point and time I will finish but right now the game just annoys me so bad I need a break
I can't recommend it for some unfortunately really frustrating parts. It's a small game of exploration/puzzle about 4 hours long, with an original storyline. The graphics and ambient music are fine, the gameplay a bit irksome as you have to be just in the right place to interact with objects (e.g. for the "boss fight" at the end you have to hurry in between monsters to interact with a thing, but you have to move in and back a couple times before you can, losing precious time and patience). The sounds are strangely wrong, like if you pick up a ceramic plate you should hear the ting of a ceramic object, instead you hear a thonk from ... I don't know, a rock hitting a tree? The problem with the exploration part is that the map is quite messy, I got lost in really small levels. And sometimes the path or objective is hinted at with lights, sometimes not. One level end is through a gate, but the gate looks exactly the same as the wood fence all around the level, and it's in the dark and in the mist. It's not enjoyable to have to look at a walkthrough just to find the exit. Finally, the puzzle part. They're supposed to be simple, and they are, for the most part. But again, with a few frustrating inconsistencies. I was stuck forever trying to make a potion, I had the recipe, all the ingredients were clearly there, but in this level I couldn't interact with any of them. The answer was that I already had the potion. Then it was figuring out where to use it. Anyway, the game is cute, it has an engaging story, it's just a shame that the gameplay has so much friction.
<3 Jane.
Ma chi lo ha creato? Questo gioco è improponibile.
