It is buggy as hell, I couldn't even get thru level 3 (time slowed down kinda and I could jump higher, I even managed to get all 3 balls to 1 door but the level didn't complete) but if you can get thru the bugs the puzzle seems interesting, idk maybe im just bad at this one but i thinks level 2 was hard but cool, not 3 tho and i couldn't see the rest Edit: I finished the game and lmaaooo it's much worse than I thought, if you press tab as you go in the exit door, next ball disappears as "completed" and you keep controling the one in the doorand go the other way to complete that one, so if you only have 1 ball in an exit you can finish a level. Also the other level weren't as good, maybe i overthought level 2 and came up with an unintended solution cuz it seemed interesting but well. Conclusion: Wasn't worth the time or money but I enjoyed it
Really cool puzzle game! It seems simple at first but quickly turns into a decent challenge. The key to success is carefully managing the order of operations for each of the 9 levels. You need to avoid hazards and find a precise path for each character to the exit, which requires a lot of strategic thinking. It’s a game of balancing actions and making sure everything is in the right place before reaching the end. The satisfaction of finally getting it all in order is surprisingly thrilling! I did struggle a bit with some levels because I overthought the solution, but that just made it more rewarding when I figured it out. Plus, the level editor adds a fun bonus, letting you create challenges for others. Definitely recommend if you're into clever, methodical puzzle games!
Developed and published by Salus Games, Layers is an inventive puzzle platformer that demonstrates how a single well-executed mechanic can become the foundation of an engaging and memorable experience. Instead of emphasizing action or elaborate storytelling, the game places its focus on logic, observation, and careful planning. At its heart is the concept of two parallel dimensions, known as the White Layer and the Black Layer, where players must manipulate the environment by transferring objects between both worlds. This straightforward premise quickly evolves into a series of increasingly challenging puzzles that demand creativity and strategic thinking rather than quick reflexes. The game's dual-layer mechanic is its greatest strength, transforming every stage into an exercise in spatial awareness. Objects that appear insignificant in one layer may become essential in the other, forcing players to evaluate every move before committing to a solution. Success depends on understanding how both dimensions interact, as changes made in one world can dramatically alter the possibilities in the other. This system consistently encourages experimentation and rewards players with satisfying moments of realization when a difficult puzzle finally comes together. Rather than relying on gimmicks, Layers builds meaningful complexity from its central idea, ensuring that every new level feels fresh despite its minimalist presentation. Adding to the challenge is the requirement to safely guide multiple characters to their designated exits. Every individual must survive the journey, and a single mistake can result in failure. Environmental hazards, moving obstacles, and carefully positioned traps require players to coordinate their actions with precision while considering the safety of every character. This additional layer of responsibility gives the puzzles more depth, as players are constantly balancing efficient routes with cautious decision-making. The result is a gameplay loop that remains engaging throughout the campaign without becoming unnecessarily frustrating. The progression system is thoughtfully designed, introducing mechanics at a comfortable pace before combining them into more elaborate scenarios. Early stages serve as natural tutorials that teach players through interaction instead of lengthy explanations, allowing them to gradually master the game's systems. As the difficulty increases, puzzles become more intricate and require greater planning, but they rarely feel unfair. Instead, the game consistently rewards patience, observation, and logical thinking, making every successful solution feel genuinely earned. Although the visual presentation is intentionally simple, it effectively supports the gameplay. The clean environments and contrasting color schemes make it easy to distinguish between the two layers while ensuring that important interactive objects remain visible at all times. This minimalist artistic direction helps eliminate unnecessary distractions and allows players to focus entirely on solving each puzzle. Likewise, the understated soundtrack and subtle sound effects contribute to a calm atmosphere that complements the game's thoughtful pace, creating an experience that is relaxing even when the puzzles become demanding. One of Layers' most valuable features is its support for player creativity through its level editor and Steam Workshop integration available via the Legacy branch. The ability to design and share custom stages significantly extends the game's replay value, allowing dedicated players to create increasingly elaborate puzzles for others to solve. This community-driven content gives the game a lifespan beyond its main campaign while also showcasing the flexibility of its core mechanics. Players interested in designing puzzles themselves will likely appreciate how intuitive the editor feels while gaining a deeper understanding of the careful design behind the official levels. Layers is not without limitations. Players looking for a narrative-heavy adventure or a lengthy campaign may find its scope relatively modest, and the minimalist presentation may not appeal to those who prefer visually rich environments. Additionally, the availability of community-created content depends on the activity of its player base, meaning the selection of custom levels is naturally more limited than in larger puzzle franchises. Nevertheless, these shortcomings do little to diminish the quality of the core gameplay, which remains consistently enjoyable thanks to its intelligent design and rewarding mechanics. Overall, Layers succeeds by taking a simple concept and exploring it with confidence and creativity. Its clever dual-world system, steadily escalating puzzle design, and emphasis on thoughtful problem-solving make it a rewarding experience for players who enjoy cerebral platformers. Combined with its level creation tools and replay potential, the game offers considerable value despite its modest production scale. It may not redefine the puzzle genre, but it stands out as a polished indie title that understands exactly what it wants to achieve and delivers on that vision with impressive consistency.
