This game was... very lo-fi and not the most challenging puzzle game I've ever played. Considering the announcement image and such, I certainly expected it to be more of a... well... game? Calling it surreal is a misnomer in my opinion. Being absurdist in your imagery doesn't make it surreal. If anything, it was a rather boring and very short story that is taken straight out of a capitalistic hellscape mindset where you just kiss ass and fake smiles to keep your job. There might be room for improvement but there is nothing about this that really stands out other than the slapped together visuals, the lack of good guidance for the function of the puzzles, and the extremely short gameplay that has a couple of grammar issues. I suspect this is a school project or something rather than an intentional game publication for a proper dev, but for all I know, there is a lot of planning behind the scenes. Even with this possibility, I do not have any inkling to keep it to wait for updates.

讨好领导的时候我真的笑了哈哈哈哈哈,很阴很幽默的拼贴画小游戏
"LaughterLost" is a student project from USC. One of the first things students should be taught in game development is that 3D graphics became mainstream in the mid 1990's with dedicated 3D cards like the Voodoo3 and the ATI Rage. But the students were deliberately mistaught that's it's okay to release obsolete 2D games in the 3D era of gaming... certainly any professional developer seeing a prospective new hire who doesn't even know about 3D gaming probably isn't going to give them a job. Needless to say if an educational institution taught me incorrectly on purpose, I'd ask for my money back. So looking at this student project, I'm pretty sure the students didn't pass the course. This is, well, while it's artistically comical enough to maybe exhale through your nostrils firmly, almost nothing in terms of what gamers expect from a modern video game. It's a point and click/drag and drop puzzle "adventure" where you deal with surreal and, I guess Kafka-esque workplace scenarios with a bunch of what I guess could be called furries, Terry Gilliam style cartoons of office people with animal heads. The art style is wryly amusing, but like I said, we're here for video games. This doesn't cut the mustard for being a video game people would like. And we can see this failed, too, check the player counts below. We also have to question what value there is for gamers on Steam when institutions flood the store with low quality 2D video game homework assignments... sure, it might make the students feel good about themselves, but this has no benefit for gamers who have to wade through this stuff to find professionally made 3D games. So this looks like an old 1990's Adobe Flash game that you might play in a web browser, and the problem there is obviously Steam wasn't intended to try compete with Chrome and Firefox. If it can be done in a web browser, it's not even close to a cutting edge PC gaming experience. That's a problem. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. It would be unethical for students to try charge money for their homework assignments, so you don't have to pay any money for this. But you'd still have to spend your time downloading this, and "time is money", as they say. There's the other problem, too... as a student project, this wasn't made for gamers. There's no requirement for them to polish and balance the game properly, all they need is something to show the faculty so they can get their grade and move on. Let's once more ask... why is that good for gamers? It's obviously not delivering a solid product. Yet here it is, on the store page, and here you are, reading my review for a student demo that's going to waste your time. While genuine amateur developers who made real products get ignored because they have to compete with this stuff. In some ways, this deluge of student projects on Steam is harmful to everyone. In terms of public reception, this failed. There's over 130 million unique gamers visiting Steam every month. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 3 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. This isn't a complete game for gamers, and since it offers no profile benefits like a game collector badge, so I can't recommend adding it to your library.

I am always captivated by a mesmerising visual novel and truly spoiled by its stunning visuals.
