underrated game, its concept is good i enjoyed it very much
It's certainly a fun way to pass time! Some of the directions/objectives aren't as clear as I wanted(in at least 2 or 3 scenarios I had to look at someone else's gameplay on YT for instructions. A hint button would be helpful but I had so much fun with how outlandish the story is. Definitely would recommend giving this a go to anyone who's even remotely interested in this game!

Episode 1 was a blast I must say! Nice humor, amazing visuals with a unique artstyle and peppy music. Great cliffhanger too, it makes you curious about the other episodes with a little throughline when it was a very episodic adventure otherwise. The game mechanic is decent, a little reminescent of a more relaxed Danganronpa style of gameplay with selecting the right options but without timer or penalties for not getting it right the first time. To sum it up definitely play the first episode, it's great and doesn't even cost anything.
This game is wonderful. It's really worth your attention.
Simple, quirky, and quick. The art style is pretty cool and the concept is cute. Don't expect too much as it's a RPGMaker game and it's F2P, but if you keep those in mind, this is really not bad.
The writing is simple, effective and funny. It perfectly rides the line between taking the situation seriously and nevertheless effusing flippancy. I love all the main characters, but the new characters in the last two episodes were kind of boring. The music is delightful. Despite my admiration for all those things, the main draw for me is the unique cartoony aesthetic of the character art.
ahhh so cute and fun! i loved the character designs and art as well c: I would consider playing the next episodes!
Kokurase Episode 1, developed by galanti and Vaka Game Magazine and published by Vaka Game Magazine, is a visual novel that takes a refreshing approach to high school romance by shifting attention away from the couple and focusing instead on the people attempting to bring them together. While many romance visual novels place players directly in the shoes of a protagonist searching for love, Kokurase chooses a more unusual perspective. Players become part of a small group of students dedicated to helping others confess their feelings and form relationships. This clever premise gives the story a unique identity and allows it to explore romance from an entirely different angle. The narrative revolves around Sakura, a timid first-year student who develops feelings for an upperclassman named Yoshimitsu. Rather than approaching him herself, her situation attracts the attention of a group known as the Kokurase gang. This informal club specializes in matchmaking and takes it upon themselves to help Sakura achieve her goal. What follows is a series of carefully planned schemes, covert operations, and often humorous attempts to create opportunities for romance. The story quickly establishes that while helping people fall in love may sound simple, the reality is considerably more complicated. One of the game's greatest strengths is its cast. Instead of relying on a single protagonist, the story frequently shifts between multiple members of the Kokurase gang. Each character brings a distinct personality and perspective to the narrative. Some are methodical planners, others are impulsive problem-solvers, and a few have their own quirks that frequently complicate situations. The interactions among the group often become just as entertaining as the romantic storyline they are trying to influence. Their teamwork, disagreements, and friendships create a strong sense of chemistry that helps carry the story forward. The writing does an excellent job of balancing comedy and sincerity. Much of the humor comes from watching the gang's elaborate plans unfold in unexpected ways. Situations that seem straightforward often spiral into amusing misunderstandings, forcing the characters to improvise solutions. At the same time, the game never completely loses sight of the emotional side of its story. The awkwardness of first love, the fear of rejection, and the uncertainty that accompanies teenage relationships are portrayed with enough authenticity to make the characters feel relatable. Unlike many visual novels that function almost entirely through reading, Kokurase Episode 1 incorporates gameplay systems that add variety to the experience. Players gather information and use key phrases to influence conversations and advance the story. This mechanic transforms certain interactions into light puzzle-solving challenges, requiring players to pay attention to details and understand how various pieces of information connect. The system is simple enough to remain accessible while providing enough interaction to make players feel actively involved in the matchmaking process. Exploration also contributes to the game's appeal. Rather than presenting every scene through static menus, players can move around the school environment, investigate locations, and interact with characters. This additional freedom helps create a stronger sense of immersion and gives the school setting more life than many visual novels manage to achieve. The campus feels like an active place inhabited by real students rather than simply a backdrop for dialogue. The visual presentation is modest but effective. Built using RPG Maker technology, the game does not attempt to compete with larger visual novels in terms of technical sophistication. However, it compensates through strong character artwork and appealing designs. The portraits are expressive, helping communicate emotions and personality traits throughout conversations. The visual style complements the lighthearted tone of the story and contributes to the overall charm of the experience. Another noteworthy aspect is the game's pacing. The story moves steadily, introducing new situations and obstacles frequently enough to maintain interest without feeling rushed. Each chapter contributes to both the central romance and the development of the matchmaking team. Because multiple characters share the spotlight, the narrative rarely becomes repetitive. There is always another perspective to explore or another problem for the group to solve. The episodic structure works well for the story being told. Rather than attempting to resolve every plotline immediately, Episode 1 focuses on establishing the world, introducing the characters, and laying the groundwork for future developments. This approach allows relationships and conflicts to develop naturally while giving players a reason to continue following the series. By the conclusion, enough progress has been made to feel satisfying, yet there remains a clear sense that the story has only begun. The game is not completely without shortcomings. Some of the puzzle mechanics can occasionally feel obscure, particularly when players are unsure which key phrases are needed to progress. Additionally, those expecting a traditional romance visual novel may be surprised by how much attention is devoted to the matchmakers themselves rather than the central couple. However, these elements are also part of what makes Kokurase unique, and players who embrace its unconventional structure will likely appreciate the different perspective it offers. What truly sets Kokurase Episode 1 apart is its creativity. The idea of helping two people fall in love rather than pursuing romance personally may seem like a small change, but it fundamentally alters the storytelling possibilities. By focusing on the people behind the scenes, the game creates opportunities for humor, character development, and problem-solving that would not exist in a more traditional romance narrative. For fans of visual novels, romantic comedies, and character-driven storytelling, Kokurase Episode 1 offers an engaging and memorable experience. Its combination of charming characters, interactive gameplay elements, clever writing, and unique premise allows it to stand out in a crowded genre. While it serves primarily as the opening chapter of a larger story, it successfully establishes an enjoyable world and a cast worth spending time with. Rating: 8/10
