This is a great little game if you enjoy Ping-Pong or just games where you need fast reflexes and a sharp mind.
King of Ping Pong: MEGAMIX is a retro themed Table Tennis game where you face a succession of opponents all with their special skills and dirty tricks. Each player gets progressively more difficult and brings new skills to the table. If you can be the first player to score five points then that opponent is defeated and you move on to the next. There are two leagues, 'Amateur' and 'Championship' with five opponents to defeat before being crowned King of Ping Pong. The championship league is a harder version of the amateur league. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3399739537
Game Play and Tactics
There's quite a few things to think about when playing against your opponent and there are a few things which will affect the game and need to be considered. First of all, is timing. There are five states when returning an opponent's shot ranging from too early to too late. If you are too early or too late you will miss the ball altogether. If you can hit the ball perfectly you will get a critical hit which returns the ball much faster and costs you less stamina. Each player has a stamina bar which is affected by moving around the table and hitting the ball. Once your stamina bar is depleted you become exhausted and are vulnerable, and this is when you are able to score a point against your opponent. It usually takes around four exchanges before you can win a point, so you need to make sure that your opponent is the one that gets exhausted first, because when you are exhausted your swing speed halves and you cannot move, so basically you are dead in the water. To make sure that your opponent is the one exhausted first, and not you, make sure you time shots as well as you can but also try not to hit the ball back to where they are standing. If you do, they will always return with what is called a ' punish' shot, which is much faster and you need to react quickly to return it. When the ball approaches you, the player can either hit the ball down the middle or to the right or to the left denoted by X, A, and B on the game pad. If your opponent has to move to get to the ball their stamina will deplete faster. As soon as you get to three out of five points, your opponent enters a rage state and becomes more powerful and harder to beat. This usually means their shots are returned faster and the speed level of the game just feels a little more frantic. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3399739058 The first two opponents are relatively easy to beat once you understand the above laws but then the third opponent enters with the ability to spin the ball and my brain just said "I'm out of here." Not only do you have to think about their position and timing your shots, now you have to work out which way the ball is going to spin. The ball will curve towards the direction it’s heading, but may misdirect by momentarily changing direction before going back. It is this little change of direction that tricks your brain into thinking it is going one way when it goes the other. I have tried over and over to beat her and I have come very close, but of course, at three points she enters a rage state and then it becomes even harder! The game is quite challenging and fast paced and you will have to repeat playing opponents over and over again until you learn their skills and how best to react. If you lose against an opponent you do not need to go back to the start of the tournament, and can play your existing opponent as many times as you like, but if you quit the game then you will go back to the start.
Graphics and Sound
The graphics look great with cartoon looking characters and smooth animations when playing. Each character has an exaggerated look, like the massive fat German, and once they enter rage mode their appearance changes to that of a person on the edge with bulging eyes and throbbing veins. The music is high tempo and perfect for this type of game with loud bells and whistles embellishing game play. It all feels quite retro with a modern twist.
🍳Conclusion🍳

King of Ping Pong: MEGAMIX is a challenging but very enjoyable table tennis arcade game that will need quick reflexes and a fast mind to succeed. Game Play feels tight and smooth and it is really easy to pick up and play. It feels natural and realistic. Decision making will thwart your progress if you are too slow, and it is this mixture of frantic pace and tactics that is the driving force, so if you enjoy hectic game play and split second decision making then you will certainly enjoy this game as it is excellently produced and presented. A refreshing throwback of an arcade game. Simple controls, and absolute BANGER music. Characters are humorous (looking at you Angry Pat) and there's several layers of the game to learn. (Also I got stuck on Championship 4. Please send help.) (And subsequently had to give up on Championship 5 Ping. Legendary skill issue acquired.) Guys. I did it. I feel 30 years older. All I had to do was change the ball colour to cyan and I beat Ping 3 tries later. Skill issue was in fact an eyesight issue. 10/10 would torture myself again. Thanks for the challenging game devs. Cheers to your first official game, can't wait for the next one! <3
Fun old school arcade action, strong Street Fighter / Punch Out vibes. Really charming character designs and animations, of which you will see taunting you constantly when you lose against them. The gameplay is simple to pick up, but surprisingly challenging and addictive.
I was waiting for someone else to post a negative review first so I didn't look like a total loser, but like, why is this so hard? Not in a "get good" kind of way, but in a "50% of people that played this game didn't get past level 3." The "difficult" tag wasn't there when I bought this a few months ago, meaning enough people manually added it to make it a main tag on the store page. I had multiple friends try to play this, thinking I was the problem. After losing to the third boss again and again and again, they'd sheepishly look at me and say, "I think I'm done... Can I stop playing this now?" Going off of achievements, percentage of people that beat level 1: 98% , level 2 81%, level 3 50%. That's statistically significant for a $7 indie game with polish and charm. It's good! I want to see the rest of it! Can there be different difficulties or something? I want to play it more, but not at the expense of several hours of my life gutturally screaming about pingpong.
Super cool style of game that rewards persistence. Simple controls with interesting gameplay mechanics that shift with each competitor, requiring you to learn patterns rather than new controls every time. I'm ♥♥♥♥ at it but it's very addictive and I will be attempting to 100% it. Music: bangs. Art style: bangs. Animations: bangs. Announcer: SCORE. Takaoka: please die :(
The game seems deceptively simple, but the strategies and depth that can evolve from this game is very surprising. It has a weak start in Arcade Mode as the characters don't have too much of a unique gimmick (Most of them introduces a mechanic instead), but each character feels very different to fight in the higher difficulty Championship Mode in a good way. If you're struggling against base Nemo, unfortunately I have to call skill issue on that one. :P
I am not done yet, this game is honestly a little too addictive. The combination of a soundtrack full of bops and the game being a real challenge, it has me hooked. That's not even to mention the very clean retro visuals all tying this arcade experience up. Looking forward to whatever the hell y'all cook up next. Update New update is sick, the power moves are awesome and they add an extra layer of strategy. The nuance of choosing when to do your super, over pure endurance was a nice change. I have not 100%'d, I am one achievement short. It shall not stay this way for long. Update 2.0 I HAVE WON Thank you for such good fun
This game is like Punch Out on the NES, in the sense that the enemies can do things that the player can't. And, you know what? I hate that. It's 2025. It's hard to follow where the ball is going and that's the game: it's just not appealing gameplay. This just feels terrible to play, and I regret my purchase. The sound design isn't anything special, the music is a little dull. And the game has no quick restart feature because it just wants to waste you time with the intro and outros, without them having any particular presentational benefits. Overall, it is more frustrating than fun to play for me. I do not find the game design enjoyable. Edit: I beat the 3rd character! I still dislike the game.
Takaoka will haunt my nightmares 11/10
