About
King Crab is a physics-driven beach defense game where you reshape the sand to protect your crab’s castle from the ocean. Dig trenches, pile up walls, and redirect waves as they crash toward your defenses. Each round the water grows stronger, the storms get nastier, and your castle is pushed closer to washing away.
Explore different beaches filled with unpredictable water, wildlife, hidden items, flooding houses, and ridiculous physics-driven chaos. Ride boats, surf the waves, throw objects around, dodge sharks, and deal with humans and animals trying to wreck your castle.
Roam off the main path between waves to uncover tools and surprises that give you new ways to defend. What you discover might be the thing that saves your crab when the next storm rolls in.
Play on PC or step inside the action in VR, both included for one price. Either way, every scoop of sand, every wall you build, and every desperate last-second trench could be the difference between saving the castle or watching it wash away.
Experienced on the Meta Quest 3
You can view my VR gameplay & early impressions here: https://youtu.be/oToc0YelgvA The VR support here is just too plain. You point & click to dig trenches or build a sand wall to protect the Crab castle. It's just not fun in VR to do that. It doesn't help that the visuals are also kind of basic. The ocean waves in particular look bad. So the gameplay is not immersive in VR and the visuals are dull. There's a free demo if you want to check it out. There's a similar game that's much cheaper and also more fun to play called Wet VR. The visuals there are also not the best, as the art-style there is an acquired taste, but the gameplay is a lot better. Building trenches and walls while trying to stop the water gets chaotic fast, and the physics make it hilarious! It's goofy and entertaining and really fun to play.
Post Dev Reply Edit: Like I said, the game is fun enough and the Dev says they've fixed the movement bugs, I'm changing my review to positive. Original Review: Had this on my wishlist for a while, was looking forward to it. It's essentially broken in it's current state, you get stuck on the smallest of inclines/declines or geometry changes, which for a game that revolves around changing the landscape, is a major flaw. Seemed fun enough, but getting stuck every 10 seconds gets in the way of finding any enjoyment in this game.
Fun simple game, gets hard to unbeatable very fast. The digging and building are a little quirky but overall it is a very neat idea, would love to see it fleshed out more! Suggested Features: -I like that "a storm is coming" feels ominous. Maybe additional events like "the ocean calms" to show a more relaxed period to build, "the beach is quiet" to indicate less animals and people will attack your fort, and maybe a timer in the top right for each event to show how long you have for relaxed building or holding out for the storm? -Upgrades would be cool, right now the gameplay loop is pretty much the same for each level, except more frantic until it becomes impossible. Being able to build or dig larger areas at once to hold out longer, even being able to jump higher so I can scale my fort more easily. Maybe with the previous suggestion for more events, when the ocean calms and the beach is quiet is kind of the "shop phase" to get upgrades? -Endless and creative modes. The 5-6 minute levels prevents me from building as big and cool as I want. Maybe having a "survival completed!" at 5-6 minutes, then I can choose to go to the next level whenever I want, or continue to hold out as the waves get bigger and bigger would be cool. Creative mode just relaxed building and calm oceans, no people or animals, just build a massive intricate sand castle if you like! Hand in hand with creative mode, being able to pick a color sand to build with, or some other way of personalizing your building?
King Crab is a very fun game! Visually the game looks very good and performs very well, especially for being on Unreal Engine. The main gameplay loop consists of building sandcastles to protect a crab from the incoming waves. The act of sculpting the sand is uniquely satisfying, and the upgrades found throughout the game's different levels add a nice sense of progression on top of the different environments in the games campaign. Overall, Noob Media's debut game brings a much needed breath of fresh air into the VR scene, and the larger gaming space. It's a game that's never been done before until now, and the execution is very good.
I liked the game, some of the levels are difficult. Building seems to work better than digging trenches, but at least one level I have to do both since I can't stop one of the waves from getting to the castle. I hope the developers add onto the game.
This game is a blast to play and brings me back to playing in the sand at the beach with my brother on vacations growing up. Highly recommend if youre looking for a fun physics based game!
