Had fun with it while it lasted, some puzzles are a bit out there
"Keep the Lights On" is a poorly made 2D pixelcrap side view adventure game that escaped containment at Itch where this kind of amateur mediocrity belongs, so we have to put up with it here on Steam. Despite the pixelcrap this isn't the worst game on Steam, but it's so far from being the best it's not funny. The plot is dry and uninspired, you're an investigator exploring a haunted abbey. The key challenge in the game is staying awake long enough to alt+F4 and uninstall. There's also a number of unresolved bugs that can softlock you out of completing the game, not that anyone would want to (see the player count numbers below). This features really godawful pixelcrap "art" instead of real graphics. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating 3D visuals, or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. What matters is that this looks much worse than most other games because of that decision, and that's a major deterrent to gamers. Games like Terraria and Stardew Valley succeeded despite the bad graphics, not because of them. This was made with the utterly awful "Construct" game construction kit... this is a "no-code" construction kit where you just drag and drop stuff and fiddle with a few menus to make primitive, minimum viable product games. That explains to some extent why this is so bad... no-code toys like Construct let anyone, especially people who aren't qualified to and should probably never make games, make them anyway. Combine this with the zero-QA "Steam Direct" program, and you can start to see why there's so much junk on Steam. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. Most "free" games on Steam aren't really free. There's usually some kind of monetisation, from nasty mobile app cash shops, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, to any other number of shady pricing schemes that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable, or something you might want to spend your time on. In terms of public reception, this failed. There's over 130 million unique gamers visiting Steam every month. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 5 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Given that this free title won't increase your game collector count, is it worth your time to add it to your library? I think you should give this one a miss. Although it's free, your time and storage are valuable resources, and the market is filled with superior options.

Un juego que en teoría toma la pérdida como un punto de conexión entre el protagonista y la antagonista, me gustó, vale la pena

What the F**k are these controls D: Also I hate the fonts. Other then that decent first game.
✿ PROS
- it did a good job with the horror atmosphere - delivery of the lore was pretty solid - caught me off-guard at some parts which is something i look forward to in horror games - there are puzzles to solve (both easy and fair in difficulty) - a boss fight. heck ya! - it's free!
✿ CONS
- game immersion broke after solving the "book" puzzle - minor bugs
✿ RATING: 4/5
// i honestly didn't expect much from this game so i was quite pleased when it gave me monsters to fight, things to find, and puzzles to solve! in addition to that, the way it delivered the game's story through notes, letters, and some clues made it easy to be immersed in this atmospheric horror game. i especially liked that you're putting the lore together as you progress through the story like it's a huge jigsaw puzzle. if i have to pick something in the game as a favorite, i must say that it's the random paintings that i needed to hang in order to open another path. when i got it correctly, everything made sense and made me want to see more. anyway, with all of that said, i highly recommend that you play this game!
Gameplay: https://youtu.be/2nVyh8ENtEo Loved this short pixel art adventure. It took me some time to figure out some of the puzzles, but it was pretty fun overall. I am sure there are still some secrets that I haven't uncovered yet.
A short little horror game. The pixel art is nice in its simplicity, but not really remarkable. Bits of the sound design are quite spooky, what stood out to me in this regard is the enemies that need multiple hits, which show up in one hallway. While the puzzles aren’t particularly difficult, I personally got hung up one of them for a bit because I wasn’t paying enough attention. So pay attention to the immediate surroundings of a puzzle! Though I didn’t particularly connect with the story myself, I do find the character motivations to be quite understandable. The horror aspect is somewhat Christian oriented, but not in an obnoxious way. As a whole the focus feels like it’s more on the gameplay, but the story is a good backdrop for it! You can soft-lock yourself if you progress too far without solving the candle puzzle, but that’s about the only issue I noticed. To sum it up for a free game this is quite decent. If you enjoy horror definitely give this one a shot!
Ratings: Dito: 4.7/5 Chat: 3.63/5 Gesamt: 4.17/5
Overall a cool spooky game, but I ran into a few game-breaking bugs where I couldn't interact with important objects, leading to me needing to start a whole new game. I couldn't interact with the candle puzzle in the chapel no matter what I tried so I started a new game, only to be unable to interact with a painting piece. Both very annoying! I recommend anyways because I think it's a neat project, but that bug definitely needs work. Controls and movement were kind of clunky as well.
