Deirdre (the main character) has grown up in an orphanage, but now has reached the age of 16 and it is time for her to depart and make a life for herself. Before leaving, the caretaker at the orphanage informs Deirdre she was nearly 4 years old when dropped off there, much to the surprise of Deirdre who thought she was left as a baby. The caretaker then tells Deirdre of the night she was dropped off and gives her a key to a treasure chest in town that "only she can open". A suspicious, but well-intentioned man brought her to the orphanage in hopes that she would be safe from harm there. He left money and a key that he instructed the caretaker to give it to Deirdre when she was of age to leave. However, opening the chest only generated more questions (and complications) for the young and confused Deirdre. The letter inside that accompanied her combat gear pointed her towards a town of great distance from her home. With her first lead being so far away, she now has the task of trying to get herself halfway across the continent safely, but fortunately, she is not alone!...well, "fortunately" may be putting it strongly.
The story details the comedic and (hopefully) inspiring tale of a girl trying to discover her past, all the while trudging forward with the help of her ragtag, whimsical companions. With the simple intent to find out who her parents are, Deirdre will unknowingly dismantle the largest conspiracy of her era. All with the help of a cast of colorful and humorous characters that are guaranteed to make you less bored than you were prior.
Filled with reference humor, tastefully shattered 4th walls, and a prodigy mage who thinks her pet chicken is a cat...what more could you ask for in a circa-1400's fantasy setting?

If you've never played an RPG before, this is a great place to start. It ticks the standard boxes and explains the gameplay very well for beginners. However, veterans are likely to find it dull because the story and gameplay lack any originality. It feels like a mish-mash of all the RPGs you've ever played before. It's also excessively easy, with full-heal points so frequent that you never need to use any items. This is great if you're playing while exhausted at bedtime and just want an easy ride, but if you're used to these games and looking for a challenge then it will be boringly easy. Some will appreciate the fourth-wall-breaking humour and culture references. For me, it spoilt the immersion and wasn't funny enough to be worth it. If you don't mind Shrek references in your high-fantasy RPGs, it might be your cup of tea. For a while I returned to the story each evening because it was an easy play, but it didn't sustain my interest and I've stopped halfway through Chapter 2. However, it's a generous free offering, so give it a go and see if you enjoy it.
Before I played Kedemara - The Orphan's Ballad, I had a small pp, no friends, no gf, depression, and no life. These things havent changed, but the game is pretty good
I can only second the very positive opinions that have already been stated here. "Kedemara - The Orphan's Ballad" is a great game of epic length (my playthrough lasted 90 hours) with an interesting story and lots of funny (and serious) dialogues. The turn-based (side-view) battles, that include some interesting skills, are a bit on the easy side, and the area design is mostly creative and original (with only a few exceptions), but the game's strongest point is certainly the banter between the party members. If you like classic old-school JRPGs (made with RPG Maker MV), you should seriously consider to give this game a try, since it will make you laugh and cry (hopefully).

So far it has been an enjoyable and fun RPG to play.
Pros - Deirde is a great main character with enjoyable relationships with most of the main cast and tries hard to understand what she doesn't. BTW, if you can't stand a woman being muscular being a punchline for most of the game, this isn't for you. -Has FF13's plot scturcure but remebers to have towns with NPCs to talk to. -I like that everyone important gets a redeisgn at some point with Amie's making her 10 years older in the best way. Neutral: -Has a high encoutner rate but battles are easy and areas are small that it's not too much of an issue -Story lore goes over my head -A few minor spelling and clipping errors here and there. -villains are meh with 0 presence. Con: -Krinkle should have been cut. While a good party member, she's like if Amy Rose had all her positive traits stripped from her, is stuck to her "love interest" for most of her screen time. I don't think she interacts with anyone else either.
