Katawa Shoujo is a romantic visual novel set in the fictional Japanese Yamaku High School for disabled children. Hisao's congenital heart defect forces him to move to a new school. Despite his difficulties, Hisao is able to find friends—and perhaps love, if he plays his cards right.

I dont read much, and ive never really played an actual visual novel before... I heard this one was free and was really good, so i thought to myself "its sommerbreak and im bored, so i may aswell just." And im so happy i chose to do that. Ive never been one to cry over movies especially not books... But this game genuinely made me a bit teary. It makes me realize, (as corny as it sounds) I dont know what gonna happen with my life... ive always been hopping the future would be better so i never lived in the present... i know this doesnt sound like much of a review... But i cant thank this game enough. It made me realize to enjoy the smaller things in life. Like how trying something new might just amaze you and make you cry a little. I Love this game. And i loved its story. So if you wanna try visual novels... start here... Its free... and by god, is it good. Thank you Four Leaf Studios.
Katawa Shoujo is far more than just a visual novel—it’s an emotional journey that explores love, acceptance, and personal growth. Each character’s route feels unique and heartfelt, offering stories that range from lighthearted romance to deeply moving drama. The characters are written with depth and authenticity, making them feel like real people rather than stereotypes. The narrative treats disability with respect, focusing on individuality and strength rather than pity. The soundtrack perfectly complements the atmosphere, enhancing both tender and intense moments. By the end of each route, you don’t just finish a story—you feel like you’ve shared a meaningful experience. Katawa Shoujo is a game that stays with you long after you close it. It teaches empathy, highlights the beauty of human connection, and reminds us that love and understanding transcend any obstacle. Hanako is beautiful
great game, even though I only played for 5 hours, I managed to complete the Hanako route. I recommend it, and I'll definietly try to do the other storylines too :p
