I really want to recommend this game but as of right now it's not really well optimized. I have a RTX 4080, and a Ryzen 7 5800x, and most of my experience has been faced with stuttering and low fps issues even on the lowest settings with DLSS on. Gameplay wise its really fun, I love maintaining my ship, zipping around through space, and the gunplay feels satisfying. But the lack of optimization is really killing my enjoyment as of this moment. So I can't really recommend this game until it becomes more stable.
It seems like a fun game with a lot of potential, but I will not be playing it until AI generated voices are removed.
Fun to play, easy to understand
Sighhhhh Ok, here goes. Let me make at least one thing clear, I am an avid hater of Borderlands's loot system. You may be aware this is an unpopular opinion...well if you want an example of why it's a bad way to do loot, try Jump Space! A game which was overall decent (for an Early Access), until random gear modifiers were added. At one point in time, our on-foot weapons were good, maybe a little more. Then one day, the machines improved their armour, a lot! R&D still hasn't caught up. No, something much stranger is going on. Myths and legends of guns, that do such magical things! So far ahead of anything else, they need to be recalled...cause reasons. No, I have not personally seen one. My luck, among other things, won't let me. Instead, I am stuck with equipment I wouldn't even call adequate. Here's the loot tiers: Green - Don't bother Blue - Common Purple - Three... Have only ever found three of these "Wow, that rare? Must be great!" No, because being stupidly rare doesn't stop them from having poor, random modifiers. Did not even bother keeping two of them, debating about thrashing the one I did keep...not that there is anything to fill it's spot. This is getting too long without actually being informative... There are good foundations here, most of them are still here. But the balance of Player Damage/Enemy Health has tipped over into "so tedious, it's not fun anymore". I would like to do more testing and prove myself wrong. However, it ain't got a chance to happen, until I convince my crew to fly again, which won't be easy.
dont waste your time. went from awesome to unplayable.
Stay away from this one. It's a nice, and on occasion, decently designed world, that actively punishes you for exploration. You sprint through a hangar full of enemy ships, just to get to a door in the back with three chests filled with stuff. You just end up thinking: "Why can't I do anything with these ships? Am I not supposed to the lookout ship parts?" The same goes for corvettes. One of the three "events" of enemy ships warping in, is a corvette. If you destroy it, you can board it and snatch a part from it. The part is completely randomized, while the corvette is always the same ship (with different modifiers at higher difficulties). I remember my first fight against a corvette, I barely beat it and thought to myself: "Wow, I can't wait to rip that rocket launcher off of that thing and use it myself." After realizing that despite the rocket launcher on the corvette having a slot where the part would go, as it is probably just part of that model, the rocket launcher could not be removed. Instead you have to open up a small vault, where a ship part is on a pedestal. In my case, it was the same damn sensor array you start the game with. It's listed as playable in single player, which it barely is. You get a drone that helps you with some tasks. But importantly, it barely does any damage and doesn't take damage itself, meaning on foot the game dumps loads of enemies on you, that chase you around all day. The problem with that is: the game doesn't really change what objectives it gives you in single player, compared to multiplayer. So you end up locked in an arena, where you have to find very heavy batteries and slowly carry them to a door. The game throws endless waves of enemies at you during that, including enemies designed to split up the group and force the target into cover, like beam drones. Even during single player, you can't pause the game. Additionally, the game insists on warping in enemy ships from time to time, making taking a piss at any point a gamble. Bugs are everywhere, which is to be expected in an early access title, but some things should be ironed out after a year of work. Why the hell do my grenades stick to my own character when thrown while sprinting?
I love the game! I wish we could do mining.
TLDR: One thing comes to mind immediately. If Cowboy Bebop were in video game form, this is pretty close to what I would imagine it being like. "See You, Space Cowboy..." \(^_^)/ Excellent sandbox, open-space looter-shooter! \($_$)/ Full review below: I initially played this back in mid-2025 when it first launched in Early Access. Since then, the game has really been cooking in the oven. The developers have been incredibly active—constantly adding content, updating systems, and patching bugs. Looking back over a nine-month gap, they’ve made massive leaps toward knocking out their entire roadmap. There is an incredible depth to this game that similar titles just don't offer, yet it manages never to overwhelm you because the mechanics and unlocks are perfectly spaced out across the first handful of missions. Truly an exceptional game! The only thing I would love to see added is the option to deploy additional Astrobots when playing solo—especially if matchmaking is down or friends are unavailable. Honestly, if you merged *X4: Foundations* with this game, my life would be complete. I can absolutely see myself still playing this 15 to 20 years from now once it's fully released. So far, I've only played solo with the single Astrobot assistant, which does a fantastic job helping you maintain your ship, manage tasks, sell loot, and fight alongside you in ground and space battles. However, my understanding is that the drop-in/drop-out online matchmaking and co-op with friends is where the game kicks into absolute, wonderful insanity. I’m actually gifting this game to two of my friends in the hopes that we can all get lost in it together. It hits a massive nostalgia sweet spot. I can already tell it's going to capture that feeling that's been missing for so long—the magic of those all-night gaming sessions in living rooms or basements, laughing and repeating the good times for years. It brings back that exact feeling we had as kids and teens: talking trash on Xbox Live, unleashing custom creations on each other in *WrestleMania* on the PS2 and N64, or grinding *Super Smash Bros. Melee* with the bots cranked to level 9. Those were games we poured hundreds of hours into, endlessly laughing and wishing the day would never end. This game has that exact same spark. That's all from me. See You, Space Cowboy...
This is a really fun game, especially if you have some friends to play it with. I have two others I play with and we've been having a blast playing it like we're an actual crew, I get to be the pilot, another is the engineer/repairman and the last gets to be the gunner. The new combat changes in the latest update are for sure tough, we felt like we were sometimes getting shredded apart with barely any time to react, and while that can be a little frustrating, it feels satisfying when you finally push through one of the very hard missions by the skin of your teeth. In one of the cargo retrieval missions we did, I had to hide the ship and evade enemies because it was so low on health while my crew were taking hordes of tough enemies in order to get the goods. They managed to nab the last bit of cargo we needed and though we were getting blasted, we managed to jump away with just the tiniest sliver of health remaining (I think I heard the ship blow up during the transition to the victory screen but we still got the rewards lol). Definitely a hearty recommend if you have others to join you. I think the devs are onto something really special here!
