Jujutsu Kaisen Carries It, Steam Version Drags It Down

★ 5/10 — Strong Fan Service, Weak Gameplay, No Cross-Platform Progress Transfer
⊕ BEST FOR: Jujutsu Kaisen fans, character collectors, fully voiced storylines, faithful skill recreations, strong music, Steam achievements, and anime fan service. ⊖ NOT FOR: Deep mechanics, low gacha pressure, cross-platform progress transfer, proper PC fullscreen support, or a wider roster beyond repeated variants of popular characters. ▣ Mobile Benchmarks: Google Play US 3.3/5 · App Store US 3.5/5.

◆ Opening
When I first started playing Jujutsu Kaisen: Phantom Parade about two years ago, I never imagined it would last this long. Back then, the manga had already moved into a strange phase: huge attention, endless discussion, but more and more plot choices felt hasty, messy, or hard to take seriously. That judgment needs some revision now. Season 3 brought the discussion back to animation, fight direction, music, and spectacle. With MAPPA’s strength, even messy later material gained a new kind of anticipation. That matters here. Phantom Parade is a licensed anime-based turn-based gacha built on the Jujutsu Kaisen brand. As long as the anime keeps the IP hot, it can probably keep running. But that does not make it a great game. As fan service, it is more stable than I expected; as a turn-based gacha, it remains limited.
◆ Strengths
⊕ It Knows What Fans Are After Phantom Parade puts effort where it should, even if it still takes shortcuts. The anime story gets new voice acting, the cast is treated with relative respect, and the game gives fans what they came for: familiar characters, familiar lines, recognizable Cursed Techniques, and enough polish to make the world feel alive again. The character adaptation is arguably its best part. Domain Expansion, Black Flash, Cursed Technique effects, character restrictions, support roles, and Ultimate timing are handled better than I expected. It finds a playable middle ground between source faithfulness and game balance. ⊕ The Original Stories Work as a Cleaner Sanctuary The game-original stories cannot fix the manga’s later problems, including how characters like Megumi were handled, but they give the cast more breathing room. Since they are game-original material rather than a new manga continuation, they avoid some of the main plot’s weight. This game is a sanctuary, not a second main storyline. For fans who still want more time with these characters, that is enough. ⊕ Presentation, Music, UI, and Achievements Support the Fan Service The 2D Live presentation, interface transitions, voice acting, battle effects, and music remain the game’s strongest points. Jujutsu Kaisen already had a strong musical identity through Eve’s Kaikai Kitan, and Eve’s Avant gives Phantom Parade a proper theme-song hook. The Steam version also has achievements, a small detail many gacha ports still overlook.
◆ Weaknesses
⊖ The Steam Version Locks Veteran Players Out of Their Progress For players with existing mobile or Bilibili accounts, the Steam version fails at the most basic issue: many players, including myself, cannot bring their existing progress to Steam. A gacha account means time, pulls, limited characters, resources, event progress, login rewards, and sometimes real money. After months or years of building an account, starting from scratch on Steam makes little sense. The Steam version has achievements, but that is basically where the PC effort ends. It lacks proper fullscreen support, has limited window behavior, occasional stutter, and a mobile-shell feeling. Instead of a real PC port, it feels like a rough PC wrapper around a mobile game. ⊖ Without the IP, the Gameplay Is Very Weak Remove the Jujutsu Kaisen skin, and this is a traditional Japanese turn-based gacha, not even a very strong one. Long-term play quickly becomes tier lists, reroll targets, tower checks, attribute matching, material farming, and banner planning: the old mobile gacha loop. Enemy variety is thin. You spend too much time fighting similar Cursed Spirits, and their repeated sounds become tiring. Auto-battle makes the daily cycle bearable, but the routine is still formulaic: log in, clear tasks, spend resources, farm stages, wait. Even skipping the tutorial does not save you from more forced onboarding later. Once early rewards dry up, upgrades demand more materials while stable income does not grow fast enough. Progress starts to feel like waiting for the next drop of resources. ⊖ There Are Rewards, But the Gacha Experience Still Hurts This is not the most barren gacha game. Events, logins, and compensation give players Cubes, and it can seem more generous than its reputation suggests. The problem starts when you chase a specific favorite or meta character. High pity, limited banners, separate free and paid Cubes, and a mixed pool where characters and Recollection Bits share the same pain make every pull volatile. Recollection Bits could have been harmless as equipment, but sharing the character pool makes every SSR result more nerve-wracking. Lucky accounts can pull the right character early; unlucky accounts might spend everything and walk away with only memories and regret. That hurts more here because you are pulling for Gojo, Sukuna, Toji, Yuta, Geto, Maki, or another character you already care about. High-difficulty content often turns into character checks. If you lack the right attacker, support, attribute, or Recollection Bit, the game rarely gives you enough room to solve problems creatively. ⊖ The IP Can Keep It Alive, But the Novelty Wears Off The international version has the usual catch-up problem: banners move quickly, but rewards and saving time do not always feel like they keep up. Some text and localization also feel rough. Better animation, even with MAPPA’s strength, cannot deepen the daily loop, enrich enemy design, improve the PC client, or make the gacha less frustrating. The character pool is more limited than it first appears. Jujutsu Kaisen has many characters, but the truly marketable ones are concentrated in a small group. After enough banners, the game has to keep selling another Gojo, Yuji, Megumi, Geto, Toji, Sukuna, or Yuta. Fans may still pull, but the novelty will wear off.
◆ Conclusion
As a Jujutsu Kaisen fan product, I respect Phantom Parade more than I did before. The voice acting, music, character adaptation, original side stories, faithful skill presentation, and even Steam achievements show some genuine effort. But as a game, it is weak; as a Steam release, it is worse. The gameplay loop is shallow, the gacha experience is frustrating, hard content leans too much on character checks, and the Steam version adds problems that should not exist. So I give it 5/10. Fan service is the main reason I still care about it. But the game underneath the adaptation is too limited, and the Steam version does not respect existing players enough. Play it for Jujutsu Kaisen, not for the gameplay underneath, and be very careful with the Steam version. Took me an eternity to find out that you can't log in to your pre-existing account made on the mobile game, which makes it genuinely pointless to play on the PC version. Unless it's your first time playing and you don't already have an account, I would not recommend. Aside from that the game isn't really bad. The story and game modes are cool and the events are really fun in my opinion but the grinding you need to do to be able to get cubes is crazy. In early game it doesn't feel that bad, you can get them pretty easily through advancing in the story, farming for materials, etc (just like in any other decent gacha game to be honest) but as you progress it becomes overly hard to get enough cubes for the character that you want if you're not p2w because you end up only getting cubes through the events. Also, after getting to a certain point the game becomes a bit boring because you only log in to farm and level up your characters but since there isn't any type of arena mode it feels kind of pointless (though there is a tower mode if some people enjoy this). The events don't require you to have your characters maxed out or anything and neither does the story mode which is nice for people who don't try hard and only play when a character they want comes out. Overall the game is pretty cool if you're playing it from time to time. Coming from someone who's been playing since the release on mobile you should definitely try it if you like the anime, the events and new characters are always really nice and have never disappointed me. Personally, I have finished the current version of the game and only log in consistently for a period of time when there's a new character I want. But keep to mind that farming for cubes increasingly becomes a hassle so objectively the game can get pretty annoying. To be honest the only reason I still play is because I love Gojo and Geto. Also I'm still not over the fact they deliberately don't let you bind your mobile account to PC, this sucks.
Game made by benjamin netanyahu, can't link my phone progress to the pc version
Overall a gacha that I'm pretty satisfied with. My only complaint is that the PC port of this game can be pretty slow from time to time, and many times if I try to actually get into the game directly after startup it'll freeze and I'll have to restart the software. The gacha can also get to be kind of greedy but that's kind of a standard feature for these types of games. You can tell that a lot of love was put into this game though, and that the devs know their stuff. For instance, toji's heavenly restriction is accounted for by none of his moves costing any meter (except his ultimate) and the way that they implement gojo's infinity into his units is really cool. I've been a huge fan of the anime and the manga for years, and I think that in this game's non-canon cutscenes that all of the characters are written very similarly to how they would be in the source material. The presence of fully animated cutscenes from the anime are cool too, but what's even cooler is the animations that were made specifically for this game.. I got a real kick outta those. Overall though, I think this game is very kewl with a couple minor bugs and a big & greedy gacha but it's worth playing if you're a fan of the series.
is a fun game is funny how a mobile game is better then the jjk curse class is worth to play if you like the anime and good 2D animation so yeah if you want give it a try
