John Wick Hex

Every strategy game promises that you'll feel like the hero. This one actually pulls it off — and it does it by making you slow down.

The timeline is the whole game
Time only moves when you commit to an action, and everything you and every enemy do gets laid out on a bar at the bottom of the screen with an exact cost.

Rolling takes this long
Reloading takes longer
That guy's shot lands in half a beat
So you sit there staring at it, doing arithmetic, and then you press the button and watch it play out as a single unbroken piece of gun-fu that looks exactly like something you'd see in the movies. The gap between "I spent ninety seconds planning this" and "that took two seconds and looked incredible" is the best thing about the game.
It nails the tone without feeling like a cash-in
The art direction is all flat color and hard shadow — comic-book minimalism that reads instantly. Ian McShane and Lance Reddick show up as Winston and Charon and sound exactly like they should. Austin Wintory's score does a lot of heavy lifting: tense strings and low pulses that make a turn-based planning screen feel like a countdown.
It's not perfect
Levels can blur together, the difficulty spikes are real, and if you want a power fantasy where you spray a room and walk out, this isn't it. Ammo is scarce, mistakes compound, and you will restart encounters. But that's kind of the point. John Wick isn't good because he shoots a lot. He's good because he already knows what happens next.

Verdict: Recommended, especially on sale. Go in expecting a puzzle box with a great soundtrack rather than an action game and you'll have a good time.

John Wick 4 Dragon's Breath Scene: The Videogame
the game is fun and the tatical / puzzle loop is also fun as you play you learn how to position yourself and move and what fights to pick. but if theres more than 2 enemies your basicly garented to take 3 or 4 damage and when you only have 10 health it adds up way too fast. you dont feel like a deadly killer when you kill someone it feels like you have a impact if you didnt pick it up in time your not missing much
i really am enjoying this game and i think it has fun mechanics when starting out but at some points this game does feel poorly designed, but overall i think its cool if your a john wick fan like me although now its off steam :(
Really fun and challenging tactics game. Not the most forgiving, but feels very rewarding once you get the feel for how the timing works.
this post is dedicated to Lance Reddick, Rest in Peace. John Wick: HEx makes you feel like Jawn WOck. obtuse movement makes this game unsatisfyingly hard. story wise: its presentable, although it doesn't make sense that he enters the bank vault but isn't allowed any suit upgrades from previous missions, yet has his custom pistol. makes me think there was originally a captured plotline, but still its not logical that he doesn't have suit upgrades but still found his pistol. revolver and shotgun take ages to aim but the game will automatically double tap fast as hell. reload mechanic is useless as you only get 1 reload from starting and stashed weapons, no enemy ammo drops you have to take the whole gun. automatic guns like smg and machine pistol force you to burst fire more shots than necessary, waste of ammo. for combat, only standing judo throw. apparently, Jawn doesn't know Jiu-Jitsu because all he can do from crouch stance is shoot. its so stupid to not always have a pistol holster and be able to carry two guns. super annoying that weapon pickup can be interrupted by getting shot, but almost every other action is uninterruptable. why no ground submit and shoot another enemy/execute ground like in the movies? should be able to shove/kick a goon into a another to stun them. there needs to be a disarm option, in fact, it should be automatic if you strike while empty handed. its fine to limit to non-boss enemies. WHY ARE ENEMIES ALLOWED TO SHOOT THROUGH EACH OTHER? Can't use push as a body shield or for offense, so either i take out the brawler close to me and get shot or shoot and don't have enough time to even parry the brawler because shooting takes ages. lack of environment throwables is sad. where are the bottles, knives, fireaxes, FOOKIN PENCEEILS!?
unfortunate this game was delisted
A short tactical shooter with a solid story. The original actors of John Wick are also present here. The game is really hard. You need to manage your ammo and keep a good position so you do not get shot much. Your primary pistol has more ammo but you soon have to be using the weapons from fallen enemies. Before starting each section, you have coins to spend for certain advantages and there are bosses in each of these sections, they are tough to beat but if you are prepared and understand the mechanic to make them vulnerable, they can be taken down quite easily if they are alone. Levels are quite unique and there are many achievements to be had, I have barely half of them after finishing the game. There are no checkpoints, so when you die, you replay the whole level again. The various weapons make this an enjoyable experience. Some of them are short ranged and some of them take longer to shoot, because you exchange fire with enemies based on the speed of the guns, you have an indicator which shows which actions is first, so you can either dodge or parry enemy instead of simply shooting them. The story is said in a retrospective way, so you know where it leads.
