+John Wick +Shooting feels okay? +Training Hall is easily the best part -Price for content -Short -The Pistol sometimes shoots in random directions as if spraying out of a machine gun. 2.5/5 This Review Would Be Neutral If There Were An Option To Do So I want to be able to recommend this, because it's not terrible. But the feel of the game is just lacking for the price they want you to pay. The "Tutorial"/Training area was fun, but the voice over was a little irritating, the guns, even though you're just shooting once randomly have a spray pattern where they shoot in some odd direction that wouldn't normally happen. It feels a little rushed just so they could advertise for the movie, instead of being something that a company wanted to take pride in making. With that combined with the price for the content, I'm hardpressed to really recommend it. I'd say buy it on sale.
You wanted me back... I’m back! ~John Wick
What can you expect from a movie-based VR title? Well, it depends. Unlike many modern kids, who watched too much AVGN and therefore believe that every single movie-based game out there is a complete trash, I sure know better. Have a lot of movie-based games that I love with all of my heart. But since we're talking VR here... let's just say I didn't expect much. I was wrong. It's kind of fun, but the same exact thing happened to me when I started watching the very first John Wick movie. I'm not a Keanu Reeves fan and usually, I don't even like such movies. But then the suckers killed John's dog and... da-a-a-ang... In other words, the movie turned out to be a pretty big surprise to me. And so did the game. The biggest surprise here is that John Wick Chronicles is actually a pretty complicated experience. Different situations will require different weapons and tactics (technically, you'll be able to beat the game with the default guns, but you'll suffer quite a lot), you'll need to roll on the floor to find better cover, you'll be able to create your own covers, to use the scope you'll need to actually move weapon closer to your helmet, grenades will allow you to play dirty tricks with safety pins, etc, etc, etc. You ever wanted a proper VR shooting experience? Here comes some. Unfortunately, it's not that simple. I mean, sure, John Wick Chronicles is a pretty fun game, but it's also very limited. The thing is, there are only three tiny Virtua Cop-like levels (you will be able to move, but only within your playing area) and aside from those, there are only training room and so-called “free mode”. In other words, you'll probably finish the game in about an hour and there won't be anything else for you to do. Sure, Virtua Cop also included only three levels, but... you know. John Wick Chronicles was released in 2017 and paying $19.99 £14.99 for a hour-long experience is... kind of arguable. Even though it's based on everybody's favorite action movie and you'll probably waste a bit more than a hour while trying to learn the right tactics (the game is a bit more challenging than your usual VR titles) and unlocking the new weapons (to unlock the weapon in story mode, you'll need to finish the corresponding training room first, which is kind of annoying and sure can be counted as one of the cons). Also, keep in mind thatJohn Wick Chronicles is one of those games that require you to have a lot of free space in your room (like I've said, you will need to drop on the floor and crawl to the cover at some points) and having wireless helmet is also strongly recommended. Just because enemies will attack from all directions and you'll constantly need to look around. Which is totally possible with wires, but... you know how it is. Always a bad idea to risk dropping your expensive gaming rig on the floor. In other words, John Wick Chronicles is a short and overpriced game that wants you to have a proper VR-oriented playing area and a wireless helmet. Which isn't a cheap stuff either. But at the same time, like I've said, it's fun. Really, really fun. The gameplay is surprisingly complicated (in a good way), while the fact that the game doesn't go easy on you only adds to the process. I can't help but wanting more, with a proper story (there is a story in this game, but it's pretty basic) and more levels, but even as is, I totally don't regret buying this game. I'd say, wait for a sale, though. Will make you feel better about lack of levels. P.S. tested with the basic version of HTC Vive.
Going to say up front, I didn't enjoy this game. Well, it had it's moments, but on the whole, it's just full of all these niggly issues. The game starts. I speak to the reception guy. I put a coin on the counter, except it's not in the exact right space on the counter, and the coin pings back into my briefcase. He calls the lift for me. The lift appears under me, and I clip right through it. My head is half way through the wall of the lift. I walk through the lift wall, and pull the handle to make it go; reception guy wishes me good luck, facing where I was standing a moment ago, six feet above my head. It's just all these little things. The combat is uninspiring but mostly enjoyable, very much arcade although if you wish to hamstring yourself you can reload properly and ♥♥♥♥ the bolt each time. The AIs are not smart, and will gladly run into my streams of unending gunfire from my dual-wielded SMGs. If you stagger your reloads properly, you never even have to let up firing - not that the AI shows an understanding of the concept of covering fire. The story is disappointing; you have to kill a guy who might've been in one of the movies, who even knows. It's expected that you are familiar with him, and he spends most of his time with you complaining about how you've wronged him. He's also somehow invulnerable to bullets until he runs of of mooks, and then he puts up no resistance to hot lead. It stretches across three (yep, three) levels, in a random parking garage, on the roof of The Continental (isn't it against the rules to conduct business on continental grounds? What even is the affiliation of all these disposable guns with legs anyway?), and on the target's yacht. There was one point that really wrenched my suspension of disbelief - after completing the first level, reception guy comes across the intercom in your suite to tell you that they've prepared a video for you to enjoy. An enormous TV screen appears. The trailer for John Wick 2 plays until it's mercifully interupted by the baddie hacking the stream and snipers start firing through the windows. In summary: this is not a good game and I would not pay money for it again. It's essentially an advert for a film that came out two years ago, and not really a great one at that. The only reason to play it is for the combat, which is somewhat lackluster, and while enjoyable in a time crisis sort of way, doesn't come close to the gunplay and physicality that John Wick displays on the big screen.
Very very meh. It even got left and right hands mixed up.
You'll spend more time fighting bugs than enemies. This is the only game where I have severe motion tracking issues. You'll constantly die because you're unable to get into cover. Enemies will go into unhittable areas. It's a great concept with a failed execution. It's been two years since I bought this and it still hasn't fixed any issues... Don't waste your money.
Not bad game
This is not John Wick, Your basically a old cripple person who just stands there and have godmode for 30mins just shooting people. BONEWORKS is better than this trash
It's a shooting range with one voice actor from the franchicse. It's really hard to find anything positive to say here, whoever owns the rights to the John Wick trademark, might want to get this offline.
Not What you would expect from a "John Wick" type of game. Just buy something like Boneworks, with Awesome John wick type mechanics and has a better story. "Oh Great I can put the gold coin on the table, how awesome is that" - No one.
