J-Town: A Visual Novel

Якраз нещодавно розмовляв про Little Tokyo в ЛА з подругою звідти і тут такий приємний сюрприз! Це дуже очевидно а passion project, гра, сповнена любов'ю і бажанням розповісти трошки про людей і культуру, надію і ідентичність, історію і проблеми. Дуже тішить, що останнім часом бачу багато таких проектів від людей з різних куточків світу. Сама гра спочатку трошки перебільшена і наївна, але доволі швидко розкривається, затягуючи своєю затишністю. Окремо відгукнулися теми вимушеного переселення та національної ідентичності, зрозуміло чому. Та й просто якщо цікаво дізнатися трошки про життя невеликих спільнот - рекомендую.

J-Town is a wonderful game that everyone should play. J-Town tackles important topics in present-day and Japanese-American history in a fun and light-hearted way with great humor and relatable characters and stories. I laughed out loud throughout my playthrough but also came away from it with a better understanding of Japanese-American history and culture and awareness of current struggles in the community. In addition, the character and background art is exceptional and I loved the voice acting and music. I look forward to future projects from Star Town. 10/10

A nice, heartfelt little visual novel about a subject the developers are clearly passionate about (Asian American communities and identity). Has some very charming writing and art, and knows when to be goofy and when to be sincere. I also thought that the bit of voice work they had for the characters was actually quite good. Better than similar projects of bigger sizes that I've played, even. Overall it made me more aware of how tight knit a neighborhood can be and made me wish I lived in one myself. I hope these devs stick with it and make more games in the future because you can tell they have passion. After all, even a small game like this takes a lot of work to make and courage to publish.

Asian American culture - and more specifically, Japanese American culture - is often swept under the rug or approached as a monolith by western audiences. J-Town is here to prove that nothing could be further from the truth. A humble game, it hits so many core experiences of Japanese American culture - in that Japanese American culture [i]cannot[/i] be boiled down to any single experience - and offers a nuanced discussion about culture without ever becoming preachy or dull. It educates and delights in a stunningly illustrated visual novel, accompanied by top-notch voice acting and music. Though it is a quick play, it packs in so much heart that the game will surely stay with you for years to come. I definitely recommend that everyone play this game.

It has some really nice character design and even nice combinations of colors and backgrounds. A little bit of voice acting, They made great job and the music is something I would like to listen to in Mall. There are some facts I already know about like what is Mochi or Taiyaki. I'm quite familiar with this stuff since I watched anime and We have large Vietnamese minority here who sell these goods and I ate them. But there were facts I was quite surprised about like my country of origin which is Czechia takes USA and USSR (now Russia) as their "WW2 Heroes" but We knew that Axis countries had them and even USSR had them but USA having their own concentration camps? That's something I didn't know.

Beautiful game with an interesting story, but the constant flashing lights hurt my autism. I would love to give it another shot if the problem was fixed.
