Pros - A typical RPG game that brings a certain nostalgia for old games - Visual Novel scenes were a great choice because they add something different and give an impression of more interaction with NPCs and characters - Well-built scenery and terrific arts - BGM and Soundtrack are lovely, with changes in crucial moments that make the game experience much more vibrant. - Well-built history with unexpected twists. - The game explains well how to play and has a very intuitive system, so it’s easy to adapt - Very affordable price - The difficulty is not exaggerated, so you don’t have to stay in repetitive battles to evolve and to be able to go ahead. Cons - If the player seeks a high level of difficulty, it can be disappointed since the game has a moderate challenge, even in the hard setting. - Some bugs in the scenario and in some parts if the player tries to do something unexpected. - Some crucial battles of the plot of the game are easier than expected, which leaves a flavor of protagonism of the characters - Making money in the game can be frustrating when looking for the desired item, as this requires going back and forth to the same fields and fighting the same enemies (you could have a greater diversity of opponents). Story The game begins by showing us problems between government and citizens who are not happy as things are occurring, so the main character starts a hunt for the leader of the rebel group, which leads him to one of the first allies to travel through various areas of the game. During the journey, the player is discovering a deeper plot on what is really happening there as he begins to grow more and more the feeling that not all truth is being seen. With this background, Insurgence - Chains of Renegade leads the player to cross the entire Aereon realm in search of answers that throughout the story bring more questions. Thus, the player is guided to a deep political plot while his companions and the main character itself are linked by deep loops of losses in their lives. Gameplay The gameplay style is a typical RPGs per turn. However, the player can know precisely the order of attack of his team and enemies, which gives him an excellent advantage to prepare strategies. The attacks of the characters are divided between basic attacks, attacks that use the magical force of the character and special attacks (which are usually devastating against enemies). In terms of difficulty, the game starts in an elementary mode, which makes the experience of the playing this part too easy. From the middle to the end of the game, the player may be surprised by the sudden increase of difficulty, which does not really require a new strategy, just letting the game a little more complicated and finally forcing some cures and the usage of some items. Graphics The game presents a well-constructed graphics part, so the player feels inside the environments as he goes from caves to the interior of buildings. However, the highlight of the game is the usage of scenes in a Visual Novel style, these give a much greater touch of life to the dialogues and characters, even when buying from NPCs end up being more pleasant because of this feature. One point that could be reviewed is the presence of the mouse on the screen, although this can be taken to a point where it disappears, it turns out to be an uncomfortable point if the player hits the mouse, or just forget to remove it once the game. Sound & Music If not the best part of the game, is amongst the best. The songs and sounds of the game are very well placed and enjoyable, which is not seen in any game of the type. Sometimes, the music and sounds fit the scene so well that it seems natural to hear that in that environment. Another point that can be highlighted is an NPC that presents us with 2 great options to listen, thus being an arbitrary point for the player, but that is worth pausing the adventure to listen to it. The only negative point that stands out to the sounds of the game is due to the dialogues, the sound of the letters appearing becomes annoying after following the story after a few hours of playthrough (changing the sounds as the chapters pass, or according to the cities are reached would be more enjoyable, or even could have this sound removed). Controls The controls of the game are straightforward; I played through the keyboard of my computer. I did not find any difficulty in adapting to the most basic things. However, I lacked some resources in the menu of skills and items. Due to this flaw in explaining how to change characters when equipping weapons and armor, I ended up having to keep going back and forth between characters until I learned how to get from one to another quickly and easily (there could be a tutorial on how to equip the characters to help new players). In general After playing Insurgence - Chains of Renegade, I can say that it was worth it, the game kept me stuck with its story and intriguing characters, the scenarios were well built, and along with the fantastic soundtrack, I felt comfortable to follow the adventure of Rissa. In this way, the value that was proposed the game is an item that should be acquired and appreciated by the community, because despite its simplicity in some points, is a game with many good points and able to make the 10 hours of gameplay pass without the player even noticing. On a scale of 0 - 5, I would give 3.9 for the game.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2023273754

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2023273724

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2023273685

After playing this game for a good portion of a day, I can say that Insurgence Chains of Renegade is a job well done by Platonic Game Studio. Gameplay The game is a 2D experience with a very classical execution of the RPG format. It is also referred to as a visual novel, which holds true as the visual scenes are excellent. The game does not lag on functional elements, however. The combat is turn based and will be extremely familiar to old or retro gamers. The playable characters can be leveled up and equipped with skills. There are over 40 skills for each character along with unique weapons and accessories for each. In terms of difficulty, there are 4 modes to choose from but it is only moderately tough even at the highest difficulty. Story There is a capturing story communicated in the dialogue which almost makes it seem like you are reading a book. The story revolves around trying to stop a war that is eminent in Aereon. However, you and your companions quickly discover that things are not what they seem. The story touches upon elements of friendship, war and rebellion resulting in a wholistic experience overall. Sound and Graphics Sound is a big part of the game. It uses sound not only to enhance the story and emotion in the game but also the combat. Besides sound effects, it has also licensed two soundtracks by “fleurishana” which really add to the personality of the game. It also does well in terms of graphics, the 2D graphics are fully HD with well-designed characters and environments. It also includes beautiful collectable artwork by various artists as an additional perk in the story. Conclusion Insurgence Chains of Renegade definitely gets the thumbs up from me. It is not the most complex game you will find, it is a simple and classic RPG. Platonic has stuck to the basics and done it right. It will be enjoyable for anyone needing a nostalgic RPG experience.
Attention: - this review may contain spoilers, if you don´t mind go ahead. - First impressions - Neutral review Summary: a short-length RPG with fantasy/ adventure/ storytelling elements made in RPGMaker. Features good story, good artwork, good soundtrack, female MC. About: - Game: Insurgence - Chains of Renegade is a short-length RPG with fantasy/ adventure/ storytelling elements made in RPGMaker. - Story: Play as Rissa and her friend Diana, both knights assigned by the Empire’s prime minister, to stop the civil war from happening by capturing one of the opposition leaders. In the middle of her mission, Rissa will discover an unpleasant truth, hidden by the Empire. Stay loyal to the empire or betray and fight? A bit cliche, even so, the plot is good. - Gameplay: rpg with exploration, turn-based combat, grinding. A way to skip the prologue would be great. - VA: N/A. - Artwork: good - Text/translation: typos were spotted, still playable. - Soundtrack: pretty good - Performance: some bug is making the game freeze, this is frustrating. Conclusion: Insurgence - Chains of Renegade is a short-length RPG with fantasy/ adventure/ storytelling elements made in RPGMaker and featuring good story, good artwork, good soundtrack, female MC. I liked the game, but the bugs make it frustrating, so I would not recommend it now, but wait for a better version (fix for the bug and text).
Insurgence - Chains of Renegade is a mix of J-RPG and Visual Novel and it work pretty well since it is a cool and nice game. Gameplay It is a classic game made with RPG maker, so if you ever played another game made with that software you know what to expect. I liked really much the turn based combat system, programmed nicely; it was a pleasure slaying enemies with all the special moves and magics available. I enjoyed the fast travel crystals since you don't find them in all the RPG maker games. There are a lot of weapons, armors and consumables available in the game, opening a lot of possibilities to customize your own gameplay and combat style. Loved all the little secrets you can find during your explorations and the dev's informations find inside bookshelves. Sounds and music Sound and SFX in general were pretty cool and fitting with all the action and moves in the game. OST is lovely and nice to hear in all the situations in the game, with the possibility to buy it apart from the game, so if you like it you should think about it. Graphics Classic pixel art for a game made with RPG Maker, but i liked the chooise of that particular kind of tileset and the attention to details; you can feel all the backgrounds were made with love, passion and attention by the game developers. Story/Narrative Nice story to get along, explained well by the authors. It is about a civil war that is going to start soon inside the kingdom of Aereon, you will travel along with Rissa and Diana, trying to stop the war and capturing the opposition leader, but beware there is more than what you see under the surface.... Replay Value This title presents some replay value thanks to the multiple difficuly setting you can choose before starting a new game, along with the possibility to find special weapons with the higher difficulties. My Opinion Insurgence - Chains of Renegade is a pretty fun game with 10+ hours of gameplay. At the beginning, it reminded me of the firsts FF and this is of course a big plus for this game. It is of course a work of love and passion made by the authors and you can feel it while playing, discovering more and more of the story while slaying tons of monsters and growing your characters stronger than ever. Suggested!
So I just finished the game. As most of the comments say this game makes for around 10 hours of content, which is quite decent for a RPG Maker game. Aside, there's a lot of positive and negative aspects to talk about so I'll divide them into Pros and Cons below: * Pros: - Impressive visuals for a RPG Maker game. Sprites aside, I found the main menu, character portraits, and especially the combat GUI very visually appealing. The artwork is amazing, both the character design, the monster design and the backgrounds. - The idea of inserting "Visual novel-like" cutscenes in place of plain text made the story more inmersive. - The music is great too, giving the game BGMs appropiate for each scenes, and the opening and endings in particular struck with me. - The story, while nothing spectacular in my opinion (which granted, may be a bit inflated...) is interesting for avoiding the typical Chosen Hero fare of RPG Maker titles. - The difficulty is balanced enough. The option of multiple difficulty is greatly appreciated, and while it's true the game isn't that much harder even on the highest difficulty it still posesses a degree of strategy during battles given the enemies' elemental resistances and weaknesses, plus some of the bosses' special attacks. * Cons: Again, putting aside the stock engine sprites... - The english translation is terrible, there's no other way to put it -- the english is very basic, immersion-breaking but at the very least the story is understandable, however even then its ridden with typos. - The slog of obligatory battles between Chapters III and VIII were tedious and annoying, especially since you're not allowed to do anything else until it's finished. - While the story was charming enough, the romances leave a lot to be desired, not a single one of them feels natural at all. - And this is more of a personal gripe than anything, but I don't understand why any dev would consider it a good idea to add collectables in a game where it's entirely possible to miss them permanently, especially if you need them to unlock bonus content. What's the point then? In general, this game is worth the 5$ price tag, even if for the experience alone. It's fun, it looks cool, and it's accessible for all players. Aside from the clunky english translation, the annoying Ch. III to VIII slog, and the missable content -- which admittedly are mostly beginner dev's problems and can be learned from -- this game is worth the price.
Playing this over a hours and already like it, Visual is nice, Music is Good. I like the story, it's good, the Prolog scene is hook me into the game. The colors it's very vibrant. Reminds me playing old JRPG game. PS: Diana is my waifu <3 Gonna edit the review once I Finish the game. Anyway I Play this on a 6 years old laptop with Windows 10 Installed via Bootcamp and i It's run smooth no lag whatsoever even on old laptop.
The funny thing for me was that this game left me with mixed feelings. When I played it, it was kinda hard to quit, even just to take some break. But after I closed the game, it was kinda hard to continue playing; not because the game was bad, but rather due to 'I think I'm not ready yet to continue the story' feeling. I haven't finished the game yet, though. I think I'm still in the mid toward the end. There were some grammatical errors and map and battle-related problems. I also found my normal attacks missed more often than the enemies did. Still, I was hooked up by the music, the art, and the story flow. It would also be more fun if the devs could add some Steam achievements, like CG collector, trivia hunter, or so. In short: A game worth playing and will be more worthy if the devs could polish it more.
A decent, straightforward RPG with good visuals and soundtrack
First Impression Review: Soundtrack: Love it Art: Love it Intro Story: Interesting Battle Effect: Eye pleasing 60fps UI: Yes RPG Lover: Recommended Price: for me it is worth for the full price Do I feel the need to complete this game? : Absolutely will complete this game, and continue the second game Insurgence : Second Assault
