TL;DR The game needs a boost button instead of automatically boosting. It is quite a boring game mechanically as is. I really, really wanted to like this game, when I saw it had energy management and free flight in it I was instantly sold. I've been looking for exactly that type of game for the last ten years. Sadly, after .3 hours of playing it I have to say, this is not it. The energy management in this is not energy management at all, its just "you get boosted when you fly close to stuff". There is no way to choose when to speed up, so you are robbed of that beautiful "management" aspect of energy management that makes so many other flight games worth playing. You are also not really incentivised to go up or down on most levels, so essentially the core gameplay loop of this game is, "fly down at the beginning and then level out and fly left or right to try to stay close to something." Which is a horrible gameplay loop for a flying game. The music is awful, I muted the music of the first level after about a minute because it was so harsh and annoying. The animations are awful. The textures are bad, but forgivable. The camera is AWFUL. I don't find many games that make me nauseous, but this one did. And I blame the camera placement and movement. Despite what other people are saying, I don't think the controls are that confusing, even if they are a bit stiff. I had it down within about 20 seconds of playing on a controller. And that was actually a big problem for me, unlike games like volo airsport or fugl or superflight or lonely mountains, I didn't feel like I had anything more to learn or master by continuing to play the game. Conclusion: There's a severe lack of gameplay mechanics that would allow overlooking the many flaws of the game. You could fix this instantly by adding in a button to boost instead of automatically boosting next to terrain. Other minor suggestions are adding in reasons to touch down occasionally, maybe into a run, and the ability to run while charging up a ground jump to add to the variety and fluidity of the movement.
This is a cute little game albeit the controls for mouse and keyboard are difficult to use. I used a gamepad and it worked out fine after that its just a matter of practice and learning what risks you can take.
The control are wonky as hell on KB, but you can get used to it in like 20 minutes. It´s excellent as a cooldown game or if you´re looking for some casual fun. Pro: -Price/Value is good - Good levels and leveling system -Global leaderboard - Soundtrack -No in-game purchases Con:- Controls are wonky - Turning is hard to get used to -Could use a few more levels -Multiplayer server maybe.
Overall a great game, especially for a indie game, I congratulate the developers for such a great simple game, and I hope it will get more attention than it currently has. I hope there is future changes in the game.. (equipping multiple perks, background improvements to maps, and more maps, even as a DLC I would buy it)
Charming looks, fun gameplay, controls need a lil improvement tho
This game has a learning curve. At first I was very frustrated and tinkered around with the settings. Eventually I managed to max out all the video settings to at least make it go a little bit slower on my machine. I also realized you have to turn using A and D. It's still a mad dash, but at least I'm getting decent scores, although it is completely beyond me how someone can get 1.7million points on a level where I get 27,000. Also, prepare for getting stuck acquiring the in-game currency and your flying profficiency levels to unlock additional options. At least a possibility to fly all levels for fun would be good, like a training mode or something. Overall, I recommend it, it's fun.
I really wanted to like this game... but it tough. Hard to learn, Hard to Master I was recommended this due to my love of Superflight. But the controls here are tricky. Keep in mind I know how to fly real airplanes, RC airplanes, Helicopters.. you name it. But for some reason this game its just very tricky to get used to the controls. Where with superflight it was never an issue from the start. Graphics I will admit I am a AAA game artist, so graphics are important to me. I unfortunately think the graphics are somewhat terrible. The textures are nonexistent, and the animations are weak and unfinished looking. I am sure there may be the response of "but its stylized graphics!!" Well, ok fine.. but to me this style looks unfinished. Gameplay In Superflight, there is no question when you do something cool and get points. You fly close to something, you get points.. you fly close and VERY fast to something, you get MORE points. Thats about it... With this game I am unsure. In the first level you fly though the Fan blades and get a big boost and points.. OK fine.. great! But if you immediately fly VERY close through some crack in a building.. you dont always get a point. So ok fine... but then if you fly though the device holding the fan.. you MIGHT get points? I am not sure yet.. need to experiment. The point is, the game has potential.. but it has questionable gameplay and rough graphics. I see there are upgrades, I am hoping they do more than cosmetic things, but not holding my breath. Anyhow, I hope they keep working on this or I may have to make a superflight successor myself. ALL THAT said... the game is $5 so thats fine. $3 would feel a lot better... but anything over $7 I would have refunded it.
This is an okay game for what it is, though not as good as say something like Superflight or Fugl. I think the biggest issue comes with how odd the controls are / there not being an option to completely disable roll on your camera, which disorients you & hides game-crucial objects offscreen. Oftentimes many of my crashes were from getting camera screwed, as opposed to me messing up a maneuver. Not bad, but there's better stuff out there.
