While obviously inspired from Breath of the Wild exploration mechanics and progression systems, Immortals Fenyx Rising has its own identity. It doesn't take itself too seriously and doesn't offer much of a challenge if you're used to The Legend of Zelda puzzles and mechanics but the game feels good to play nonetheless. The story and universe are interesting, there is a lot of content, that is always revolving about finding chests, solving puzzles and such but they never feel repetitive or like a chore. I enjoyed the combat system even though I felt like it didn't really matter what weapon I was using since the enemies and bosses were quite easy to defeat, but again, I'm used to these kind of games so your mileage may vary. I've finished the main story, cleaned many secondary quests and upgraded some gear, almost maxxed out my stamina and health and I'm short of 40 hours. I'm going to clear more vaults before moving on to the DLC. Like BotW, the game can be played in small bursts but also in more lenghty sessions. There's always something to draw you in, and while it doesn't have the "top notch" effect that Breath of the Wild has, it also feels less frustrating and punishing (no breakable weapons, less emphasis on surviving in an hostile world), and a funny cast of characters. Don't overlook this game or think this is a poor man's Breath of the Wild, you could miss out on this gem, especially since you can buy it on sale with its DLCs for like ten bucks!
I want to preface this review by saying that this is not necessarily a bad game, but I can't bring myself to give it a positive recommendation as it rather quickly got to the point where I was playing the game purely for the sake of finishing it. There are aspects of this game that I did enjoy - namely, while some of the humour is a bit tongue-in-cheek, other parts of it (particularly if you're already a fan of the chaos that is Greek mythology lore) is amusing. The world looks great, the music is awesome and heroic, and the combat mechanics are fun. However, I struggle to say much else in its favour as this game frustrated me to a degree I haven't experienced before in gaming. For starters, the game takes forever to load and constantly lagged, even after I installed an updated driver to try and resolve the issue. The game itself had weird moments where the dialogue and subtitles cut out for no reason, which broke the immersion of the story when it happened. The story itself isn't bad, but isn't anything especially spectacular and honestly the ending (while the puzzle ended up being kinda cool and one of my favourite puzzles of the game) felt like a cheap twist with an anti-climactic resolution. The puzzles of the game can be good, but 90% of them were more time consuming than actually challenging, and those that were challenging were an incredibly frustrating grind where you would get screwed over by little things like bad luck or button time-outs. Overall, I'm glad to have stuck it out and finished this game, but it's not one that I intend on coming back to. The open-world aspect was cool, but having to repeat the story and the grind is a demoralising thought. As such, I recommend anyone who would like to give this game a try to wait until it is either on sale or being offered for free/second-hand.

Beautiful animation style, fun combat, silly dialogue. This is a really good game!
it's good
