The game is too complex to analyze here. It’s simply just a good game. I played for almost 300 hours without buying any DLC. I recommend the game.
8/10
Survival/crafting/base building games are one of, if not my absolute favorite genres, with RPG's being the contender. This game not only combines both of those aspects, but has become my second favorite survival game ever, with cataclysm dark days ahead being the only one that tops it. The different ways to play with the mission based system, where you drop in with equipment you've purchased using your meta currency and a character with stats and skills, or the permanent open world mode where you can activate the same missions and walk over to them to do them with your planetside tech, I love bouncing between them. I was hesitant to leave a positive review solely because the devs did partake in a rather disgusting business practice of promising early supporters that all DLC would be free for them forever, and then backpedaling on that statement and charging them anyway, while also having exclusive content. So ♥♥♥♥♥♥ devs for sure. But really good game, so I just had to leave the good review. Buy the game, and wait for a sale for the DLC, since the DLC is all expansion content that you don't necessarily need to play through the main content for to access or partake in, but since it's all harder content and mixes up what you need to do to survive and takes place in other maps, the hundreds of hours in the base game will easily last you long enough until a sale comes around to nab all the DLC, of which the main ones you're looking for are: Dangerous Horizons Expansion Great Hunts Campaign New Frontiers Expansion Styx Expansion The other DLC are cosmetic stuff or add more maps for outposts--with outposts being tinier, condensed "safe" maps where you basically can just build with almost zero danger. You still gain experience for your character in these areas, but afaik options for earning currency are limited/zero so it's better to stick to the open world. But it's there for those who just want a safe survival sandbox with Icarus' systems.
good stuff so far.
It is a really good game

I really like the game. I had it on my wishlist for years and got it on sale. I was immediately sold. I enjoy the large skill trees, unlockable blueprints, and all of your progress being saved by character. The open world has been so fun to explore. In my opinion it is heavily exploration focused, though you can build a base, furnish it, raise pets/stock, and collect resources. Overall, there is always something to do and when you hit a lull, simply jumping into a mission will help shake things up.
