A very amusing, anti-establishment RPG game with a lot of swearing. If you're not willing to accept almost everything being made fun of, then you won't enjoy this as much as you should. Gameplay-wise, it's perfectly fine. Characters are nicely animated, with nicely drawn enemies. Everything moves smoothly. Fight sequences are standard for RPG Maker, so it should be easy to play. There are a few technically issues, that are more annoying than anything else. They are more to do with ambience than anything else. It's well worth the price.
Overall Rating: 0/5 Stars Pros: Ambitious Vision: The developer's enthusiasm and belief in their game is evident, albeit misplaced. Cons: Disjointed Flow: The game lacks a coherent structure, making progression feel random and unsatisfying. Terrible Writing: Dialogue is cringe-worthy, filled with clichés and attempts at humor that fall flat. Detailed Review: The Concept: "HILTSWAETEOTW" was pitched as a groundbreaking title by its developer, who proclaimed it the "greatest game on earth." Unfortunately, the reality is starkly different. It's a classic case of ambition not aligning with ability. Gameplay Mechanics: The gameplay is a series of missteps. The combat system, which should be a game's cornerstone, is tediously simplistic and frustrating. It gives you the option to "escape" the fight. However, the pathing that the enemies have is horrible. You can be very much out of eye sight of the enemy, and you will see them run right towards you, not even giving you time to leave Narrative and Writing: The writing is where the game truly falters. It's evident that the developer aimed for a quirky and engaging story but ended up with a narrative that's disjointed and confusing. The dialogue is riddled with forced jokes and awkward phrasing, making interactions more of a task than a feature. Visuals and Sound Design: While not the worst aspect, the graphics and sound design are underwhelming. The art style lacks consistency, and the sound effects are often out of sync with the actions. The sound design is not immersive in the slightest. There are clear cuts in the recording where it loops back to the beginning of the sound. During the little guitar part after you leave your house, the notes on the guitar have been cut off, which is extremely disjointing. Game Infrastructure: Oh boy. This game is missing SO MUCH in terms of basic game options. You are assaulted by the sound, with no option to turn it down (Outside of the OS volume controls). THE GAME IS LOCKED IN A SMALL WINDOW. You are unable to full screen the game to any extent. While in the game itself, there is no pause menu, only the inventory, showing your character stats. Nowhere to change audio settings and volume, resolution, or even keybinds. Speaking of keybinds, WASD is not implemented. You can only move with the Arrow Keys. Dialogue: Saying the writing is subpar is the best compliment that it could be given. It is filled with 'jokes' that the dev thinks are hilarious, but in reality made me literally cringe. Talking with any female character in the game will give you a glimpse into the mind of the dev; nearly every line is full of sexist remarks and stereotypes. It's full of grammatical and spelling mistakes as well. Conclusion: "HILTSWAETEOTW" is a testament to the importance of skill and experience in game development. Despite the developer's high hopes, the game is a mishmash of half-baked ideas, poor execution, and a glaring lack of polish. It serves as a reminder that passion alone doesn't make a great game.
I was afraid and worried about the end of the world...but till i learned to enjoy the end of it, i get pew at the bad guys and hang out with the weird crew and pew at the bad guys. You got the Dookies, save the dais,. And still have some bubble gum.
I've only been playing for a little while, just barely under an hour at this point. My initial experience has been positive, and so far this is definitely a game I'd recommend. The world is thus far very encouraging for exploration, well designed enemies, and the humor has been pretty enjoyable thus far. Some of the comedy feels a bit forced, but I think it's just a measure of trying to put a lot of humor into a short time period. Combat is pretty simplistic in the first hour, though I definitely am liking how you can decide to let people leave during a battle instead of killing them. I'll be back with a full review when I finish it, but for now I'm having a good time with it.
I've enjoyed playing so far, it's challenging but entertaining.
