Hotel Tutwin

A very short comedic horror visual novel, you could probably complete one playthrough in under 30min, and much less for future runs. So don't expect a long play time, but it's free so who can complain? The game window does start out in a small window by default, which is mildly annoying but can easily be made full screen so not a big concern. The artwork is decidedly uneven in quality, some adequate but wholly unremarkable, very occasionally quite nice and on other occasions outright awful. The music is respectable, certainly nothing memorable but it does it's job and is nice enough to listen to. You won't feel any desire to mute it. The writing is why you're playing a VN however and there it's a lot better than you'd think, I wouldn't mind if I'd paid $5 for this. It seems deceptively simple initially which you might expect given the short playthrough, but there is more depth in the story and background motivations for the characters then you'll realize after just one play. There are tons of potential endings, close to 20 at least along with 3 romantic endings and another that implies it. Overall it's a surprisingly pleasant experience. -On a note unrelated to the quality of the game, a prior review called it "transphobic" and I am genuinely baffled by that. I'm not trans so maybe I'm missing something but this game seems to be decidedly over the top in how open it is to trans stuff. It even outright says you can just change your gender anytime you want and everyone is completely accepting of this, and won't even think anything is unusual. Which is .... uh, probably not quite so simple. Short of beating you over the head and telling you to worship trans people I don't know what more it can do.
