What a fantastic game. I really enjoy playing this game. Its a great way to learn Hiragana while having fun. I highly recommend this game if you are studying Japanese. i rate it an 8.5/10

So much fun! The concept is simple and fun and before you know it, you're reading Japanese! Also, the kids are just adorable.

From a Japanese perspective, I felt that the game offers a well-designed curriculum that helps learners grasp the basics of the language, especially hiragana and its pronunciation. The difficulty is nicely tuned to encourage review when you make a mistake, so I think it offers a good sense of challenge while making the learning experience fun!

Hiragana Hero is a fun new way to begin your journey to learning to read and write in Japanese. I actually already knew Hiragana before I played, but the game was still challenging and entertaining with plenty of replay value. I recommend picking up a writing practice sheet to help supplement your learning with it. I hope you enjoy the educational and quirky game and study tool.

A cute game that teaches one of the writing systems of Japanese. You'll love the adorable main characters, and the game system encourages replayability to help you remember the hiragana characters. Note that this is only one writing system, but there could be sequels someday. Most of the complaints I have are due to engine limitations, but the developer is active in searching for and patching bugs.

Very relaxing game for anyone who wants to learn or review hiragana. The language is clear and easy to understand with the fun twist of going through a labyrinth of levels and meeting characters. Suitable for all ages.

Fun JRPG with rogue-like elements that teach you the Hiragana and pronunciations. The game is fun while being repetitive enough to help you learn the syllables and characters associated with Hiragana while at the same time rogue-like elements ensure that you continue to practice. Even if you know some or all, the game will keep you going and keep you reviewing. Highly recommend!

I'm a smooth-brained ape. I can barely English. But I love Famicom games — which, of course, are all in Japanese. So when I saw a game that promises to teach me Japanese through gaming? I had to try it. Was I skeptical? Absolutely. I'm not the sharpest banana in the bunch, and learning a whole language from a video game sounded way too easy. But a few hours in... and I'm actually learning stuff. Like, real stuff. And it's fun. If you're like me — dumb but determined — this might just be the way in. I'm diggin' it.

This is first time learning Hiragana and the only background in the Japanese language is learnt from games, anime, and media by looking up words and recalling a few key phrases. Also have a background in spoken Chinese Cantonese which may of helped in learning some characters more easily. The game starts the MC's journey in learning Hiragana by battles. It was nice to see both typed version and calligraphy style (hand writing.) It did add to the difficulty of recalling more character styles but it was important to recognise both. Enjoyed the comedic moments of dialogue options and cuteness kids voicing in the game too. [spoiler] The moment where Keen will just switch to spoken Japanese and then to not at all! It was shocking when that was introduced but made perfect sense to help ease into language better. Then the text will switch from English to Japanese. Reading out loud helped to work out roughly to what's being said. [/spoiler] I did want better audio controls as witness to smashing the first pot in game. It was so loud that I screamed! Eventually did get used to pot smashing SFX after lowering to lowest setting (still still loud on that setting.) For battle encounters, a visual exclamation mark before battle starts would be helpful. As Keen suddenly speaking out of nowhere always spooks me. It wasn't Hiragana recalling that I was worried about XD I had about a month on and off learning Hiragana as I was aboard. My progress was better than expected as learning the Hiragana by each column system and writing down each one that was introduced. Still struggle with RE, NE and WA and the additional sounds but will get there with more studying. It was nice to be able to read some Japanese social media~ The final boss was a good way to see which ones that I was struggling with recall. It would be nice to have one with the additional sounds to test for as well. The end story was [spoiler] a twist that I truly didn't see coming, should of expected from a RPG style game XD [/spoiler]

I've had my eye on this game for such a long time now, it was so great to get a chance to play it! We spent 5 hours on stream playing and I wasn't feeling confident, then someone in chat started asking me specific words and I was nailing so many more than I expected. **THIS GAME WORKS** in teaching you hiragana, and is so fun to play. I highly recommend this game to anyone that is learning and needs some extra practice, or anyone that wants to step into it for the first time. The entire game is voiced by some really impressive voice actors, something you never expect from a first release indie title, and the soundtrack is an absolute banger from beginning to end. So much care and passion was put into this game and you feel it. Great job keen, absolutely killing it!
