From the moment the login screen appeared, I knew this game was going to be annoying. Username and password, ok then maybe it's going to be a character creation thing where I type my own thing in, nope. So you get the hint to look at screenshots, you have to tab out of the game, go to the steam store page, find the screenshot with the username and password, decipher if it's a lowercase i or a number 1, try to use the TAB key to switch from the username to password field and find that it doesn't work, finally login and get on the desktop. I opened up a few things, played the song, played the minigame, read the journey entry, quit the game, wrote this review.
It's not a well presented puzzle. Typically, you would present a puzzle with a problem that must be solved. In a good game, the answer is hidden in an obvious but clever way. In this game, you mess around to find the answer. I wish I liked it. Maybe if I knew the answers already and enjoyed reading mostly unimportant and lengthy diary entries from teenagers, then I would have enjoyed it more. At least the entries were well written. I'd say the most disappointing aspect of this game was the false hope it gave me. When it prompted me to "Check the screenshots," I assumed it meant the ones in my computer's file system. I'd much rather have played that game, as I consider that concept to be far more interesting. Prompting a user to explore their own file system for hidden answers or clues would be much better than prompting someone to check the store page. Additionally, it could have been a tutorial of sorts that hints at how you would progress through the game. Instead, this "Puzzle" has no pertinence to the actual game you'll be playing, and is merely an extra step in launching it. In summary, the wasted potential here was disappointing, and the only possible reason I could have for recommending it would be that it is free. If you have nothing else to do with your time, then I guess you could try this game. If you want. Other thoughts: Another very disappointing thing about the game is that it genuinely isn't a terrible game, it seems to me that passion and effort went into the game, and technically it has some good qualities. The game runs well and the aesthetic is consistent and well done. That's why I previously said that I wished I could like it, because it isn't the kind of game I love to hate, like Saurian or Take on Mars. For example, the developer added keystroke noises and clicking to the game. That is not at all necessary, but it serves this game's atmosphere quite well. I would like to return to it once the developer releases a guide so that I can experience more of it, but I think it speaks volumes that this game was released without it. Puzzle games shouldn't need a guide to be completed, they should be self contained experiences. Any time a player must consult a guide to proceed is an instance in which the game has failed that player. of course, no game does this perfectly. If you make the solutions too obvious then the game becomes unfun. The best games in this genre are able to present their puzzles in a way that is easy to understand but hard to solve. This game more often presents puzzles in a way that is difficult to understand but easy to solve. I often hear difficulty thrown around as an excuse, but I vehemently reject that notion. Difficulty on its own is not a good quality, it must be intentional and well thought out difficulty. Again, perhaps I could take a different perspective once I know the complete story and how the puzzles work, but without that knowledge I must remain skeptical of its quality. I experienced little of this game, but even that did very little to compel me to learn more about the character or to solve the puzzles. Though well written and designed, the game was uninteresting. I'm interested in it, not because it is compelling, but because I want to know which of my predictions of the game are correct. Whether the good qualities or bad qualities prevail. Again, a very unfortunate conclusion.

Oooh, quirky puzzle game - count me in! Hang on - why can't I press Tab to move between fields at the login page? Has the developer actually ever used a computer? If you are going to make me find a screenshot for a username/password to login why would you make that screenshot low resolution and then include characters which aren't unique (i/1/l) in the chosen font? It took me a great deal of Alt Tab'ing and swapping characters to login in. This is not a hard puzzle, this is just annoying. Why are there no scroll bars on the text windows? I solved a couple of the puzzles but gave up as I wasn't actually having fun. I've not been this disappointed by something I got for free for ages.
After getting through a large chunk of the game, I can recommend it on the story alone. While I had some trouble with the puzzles, I think that the story was a good enough payoff for getting through them all.
As someone who uses a computer a lot the interface for this game just feels terrible to use (it also looks bad but whatever). Having to find things outside the game to play (ie. screenshots on steam) is somewhat interesting, IF it's a mechanic used throughout the game, otherwise it's just bloody annoying particularly at the very beginning of the game before you've done anything else. I however have no clue whether it's used once or a thousand times because I couldn't get past the terrible fake OS and laggy af mini-game to find anything else.
------------------------------------------ Heavy Dreams is the type of puzzle game that I don't know how anyone could find cool, the game isn't about a clever or unique idea, just a bunch of challenges without context, I doubt anyone finished it without a guide, I decided to give it a read guide because the initial screen has a password (and I can't find out where they got the answer yet) and then when I read a little more of the guide I saw that the game has no shared logic between the puzzles and almost no context to validate the story. Furthermore, I found bugs, there are much better computer-based puzzles out there than this one, I don't recommend it.
This is... weird. Is some sort of a puzzle/mystery game. I didn't play for long. Thing is, you just don't know what to do. The first thing a game should address, IMO, is making sure that the player gets to know as fast as possible how to play the game and what are the goals and guide him/her a little to make the learning curve less steep. Seems to me this developer just had an idea and was overly enthusiastic about it but forgot to explain it to the players. This seems to me like a mess of concepts and loose ideas that is neither engaging or fun. I think it needs a severe overhaul in order to make it a real game that the masses could enjoy.
